Week 1 did not go badly. Had some unexpected difficulties arise, but having never donated plasma before, I wasn't sure what that would do in terms of physical stress or the time investment, but the time thing shouldn't be so big now and the donation isn't so bad if you've drank a lot of water. This week will go better, I'm sure of it.

Hahaaaa! She's baaaaaaaaack! (do I need to do anything to 'sign up' for a team besides, you know... just showing up?)

This challenge started at a bad time for me because I was visiting my family (and friends!) in New Brunswick; BUT I got some solid physical stuff in so that was good. Stacking firewood is a good workout! as is hiking in the woods (while singing loudly to warn bears and hunters that i r not a deer).

I did a lot of cooking for others, and while I made sure to eat something for breakfast it was probably lighter than it should have been... but I tend not to eat while I cook. Which is a good thing, really!

I capped it off by flying back to Newfoundland at 7AM this morning, after getting 3.5 hours sleep - and an hour and a half after I got here I headed off to the gym to do a workout. Which I rocked. (and then I crashed and napped, but that's another story)

I haven't gotten a challenge thread up yet, but I did sign up for the challenge yesterday so I'm back. I need to set more measurable goals... maybe? Where I've got a trainer it's difficult to do because he changes things up to keep me challenged, which tires me out enough that I have difficulty doing additional workouts (beyond my usual walking to do errands, etc.)

I'm checking for a different judo club, I can't continue with the other one because it's just too late at night.

Figuring out how to write goals that work for you is a big part of this.  Time, intensity, mass, distance - whatever you can measure to track progress.

I met with my physical therapist again today.  Last week we reviewed all my exercises for good form and increased the difficulty on some.  This week she asked to see my planks.  Okay, it has been a month, but they were solid before that. Turns out they are still solid.  She said I have good form. B)   Now I have plank variations to add to the rotation.

Front plank variations:

- alternate touching each knee to the mat, keeping everything else steady.

- lift one leg (straight extension from hip) 10 times.  Same with other leg.  Alternate legs until done.

- move forward and back from toes.  This felt good on my toes.

 

Side plank variations:

 - Hold upper leg and arm in the air

 - Reach with upper arm from fully up to under ribs on lower side.  Shoulder can move forward.  Keep everything else steady.  Works obliques.

 

I have also progressed to level 3 in the Sahrmann series.  Go core exercises!

Sorry guys, I have been really incognito.  I'm working on my challenge, but I've just been insanely busy.  These are the things I have been doing!

  1. Ordered a new transcript because the college lost the first one!
  2. Groceries
  3. Declare my intention to enroll at CSU
  4. Find out what my FA awards are and accept them
  5. Set up regular walking and take my first walk with my new walking buddy!
  6. Put Arcadia on the waiting list at her sister's school for afternoons when I start school
  7. Find out what special requirements she has and start applying for a one-on-one aid for her
  8. Call Grammy
  9. Empty phone storage
  10. Apply for child care assistance during school
  11. Library renewals, holds, pickups, returns
  12. Go to a kindergarten faire and find out where my daughters should go to kindergarten!
  13. Get my bike seat fixed again and get a light and a better pump
  14. Haircut
  15. Make Thanksgiving arrangements & invite Jingxia
  16. Join OA online, find a sponsor, and get started!
  17. More groceries
  18. Buy a food scale for new food plan
  19. Get registration date appointment
  20. Always more groceries!

Whew!  And of course, that does not include all the little things I'm constantly doing like cleaning the house, driving people around, setting up and cleaning up kid activities, giving baths, food prep, exercise when I can, some downtime with bf to play games and such, getting people ready for school and bedtime, and reading kid books.  Wow.  I'm so busy.  And the point of a lot of my challenges, as you all know, is hoping to simplify my life and figure out how to juggle the rest peacefully.  :)

Week 2 Summary

 

Judo - Made it Tuesday and it was a great class!  Not so much on Thursday

Workout - twice, up to 4 chin ups

Study - not so much, unless I include talking about games here

Life - Finished my Accounting course!  Calculated final mark should be 93% and I'm quite happy with that.  OTOH, I was borrowing stress earlier.  Fretting about Christmas again.

 

Overall:

Judo - 0/1 - 1/1

Workout - 1/1 - 1/1

Study - 1/1 - 0/1

Argh, I've been having difficulties when working out at the gym - with other people's scents. As I'm in a more aerobic phase now I'll suck in great lungfuls, which leads to a bit of an asthmatic coughing fit. I'm so tired afterward, I've been falling asleep early or sleeping later - and I don't know if it's the exercise, or the asthma, or if I push too hard, or what. Maybe the time of the year!

Improving, definitely! slowly and steadily. But I don't feel more powerful and energized, I feel... tireder. Which makes me question, at least a little, if I'm doing this right.

BUT, I grit my teeth and soldier on! because once I'm done with this stuff, I get to go back to lifting weights, yayyy!

Odd question time:

 

What is a piece of media (book, tv movie, music, other) that you have meant to get into for a long time but never go around to?

 

I have a whole shelf of those.  Lots of books and movies.  Nothing that I feel especially guilty about.  When I was in grad school I would buy non-fiction as a reward for myself.  I have only read part of that stack since I graduated and got a real job.
