simonize120: Time to hit the brakes.

Latsu Swagneel

Recommended Posts

It has always been that my mind ran faster than most people's. In fact, it runs so fast, it gets me in trouble more often than not.

        It has to slow down.

I need to hit the brakes on my mind and get control of it.

In that sense, I make this declaration. I WILL take control of myself. I am the master of myself, my mind must follow the rules I set.

On that note, I do not plan on ending the successful goals I made for myself last challenge. They will not be counted in to my goals for THIS challenge, however.

I will still keep off junk-food.

For this challenge though, my Main Quest will be to Calm the **** down.

To accomplish this, my goals will be as follows:

To meditate a few (>5minutes/day) minutes a day.

I plan on using websites such as calm.com for this goal.

                                  To exercise my mind.

I'll probably do a couple puzzles throughout the day

This will probably be the easiest of my goals, seeing as how I already do a few crosswords a day.

Although my main quest is to do with my mind, from a sound body can come a sound mind.

For this reason, one additional quest will be fitness related.

I will by the end of the challenge, commit myself to doing the Hotel Workout at least 3x a week.

I know, I'm taking a lot on myself. But, I believe that this is a properly decided upon task.

I will not be posting very often. But, when I do post, there will good news.

I will grade my challenge based on how many times I actually do what I say I am going to do.

Let the games begin.

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,

Nice goals simonize!!  You can do it.  What I have found that is helping me is setting my alarm do to something every hour

Issue for me with doing that. I am in class during all hours of the day, and don't want my alarm going off during. I will probably use something like that to remind myself to do things.

Love your goals! Can't wait to read your updates. :)

Not sure how often I'll be updating, but updates will definitely come on Mondays after weekly weigh in.

So...I said on Sunday that I would try to give at least a Monday weight.

I forgot to post that yesterday, so, I guess I'll make up for it by posting it now that I remembered...

I have neither lost nor gained any poundage over the past week, but I feel more awesome compared to last week.

My weight, as of yesterday morning, is 202lbs, bringing my total weight loss to 102lbs.

Yes. That means that I was, once upon a time (last year mid April) 304lbs.

I did my first meditation session yesterday also, using Calm.com's guided meditation. I did it before bed, and, it was pretty awesome to note that I fell asleep without my usual tossing and turning trying to find a comfortable position.

Diet is still working properly, but I forgot to make dinner last night.

I found an interesting puzzle app for my phone that i have beaten the first 82 levels already, without using any hints.

More updates to come as I feel like it...

I just checked out calm.com and I've decided that it's pretty awesome. I felt like I was in the mountains and haven't felt so calm, relaxed, and happy in a very long while! Thanks so much for sharing! :D

PS - So much congrats on the amazing weight loss! That's wonderful!

Awesomesauce! What's the puzzle app btw? And is it available for all (or most) phone types?

I'm totally going to check out calm.com, since my challenge goals are somewhat similar to yours.

Keep it up, and congrats on the epic wright loss since last year!

The puzzle app is available on android phones. I'm not sure about iPhone because i don't use an iPhone. I don't remember the name of it, but it has about 20 different number/logic puzzles available to do.

I also use a crossword puzzle app. It downloads a few different one every day.

Otherwise, I just peruse the app store, looking for puzzle apps...

Good luck with your own goals, and thanks.

Welcome to the Druids!

You obviously have quite some willpower to have gotten where you are already, you will be a great inspiration here:-)

Yes, I think you are right that it all starts in the mind - if we have strength and focus there it will be able to spread throughout the body and our lives.

I will follow your progress with interest.

Do you aim to increase the time spent meditating each day?

What is the Hotel workout, and what is your buildup-plan towards three times per week?

What system will you use for grading yourself?

Namaste!

I have chosen to believe in myself.

The Hotel Workout can be found on the Main Site here:http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2010/12/20/the-20-minute-hotel-workout/

My buildup plan was actually to start with doing it on Sunday (tomorrow), then put in my calendar for twice each week, at a specific time. I haven't exactly worked out the time I will be doing it, but I do have a pretty good idea of when my schedule allows it.

My grading system hasn't really been figured out, so i will be open to any suggestions people may be able to give me.

With regards to your first question, I would like to increase the time, but I figured that 5minutes was a pretty good place to start, as I do have 5minutes here and there throughout the day. I don't generally have 20 minutes during the day to stop everything.

Again, I'm always open to suggestions from everybody, and would love to hear feedback.

So, Monday Morning comes, and with it, a new scale reading.

My weight has now gotten to that magical number, where there is no longer a 2 at the front. My weight as of this morning is 199lbs.

When I saw this on the scale, I went in to a mild shock, as I had not expected that number.

SO, a status report on my goals.

Because LifeTM enjoys getting in our way, most of my goals took a back burner seat before the 2 exams I had last week.

I meditated 2x last week. I aim to increase that this week.

I signed up for Lumosity.com, and did 3 exercises. I think that will be my number for that for the rest of the challenge, but I don't think I will like keeping the number that low.

Workouts never really happened, but I now know that I can do a full pullup, using a pullup bar in my door frame. I will be increasing this number.

Anyway, always happy to hear read criticism, so, hold nothing back.

BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!  Isn't it the best feeling to see the scale move in your favor?!

I want to be able to do a pull-up someday.  I am feeling very inspired now.  :)

I have no criticism for you because I think you are doing great so far - keep up the good work!

TY for the info. I still have one of the old blackberries with no touchscreen, but was thinking of upgrading to something with Android soon (I'm not an iPhone person lol). I've looked at the BB puzzle apps but they're no too stellar :\

Signed up for lumosity eh? That site is loads of fun...and sometimes frustration lol

Definitely no criticisms. I hope you rocked those exams!

The really annoying thing about Lumosity: In order to get the full experience, you need to buy access. I don't have money to drop on things like that, so I'm doing all the free stuff...

Get it done!  Knock this challenge of out of the park. There are 4 weeks left to finish out perfectly.

One of the things I learned last challenge: Even if you don't do perfectly, but you do well, you did a good job.

I do plan on trying  doing my best. (Trying seems like such a cop-out)

Now that my doctor has cleared my for heavy lifting, I will be changing my goals to account for that. Stronglifts, here I come!!!

I guess that would be more of a Warrior-like goal...Well, the majority of my work in this, and possibly the next few, challenge is mental, so, Druid I stay, at least until I feel my work here is done for some time.

Anyway, my weekly update will be definitely coming Monday, with my new weight.

So, another week has come and gone, and with the end of an old week comes the beginning of a new week.

First off though, comes my weekly weight. I have lost another pound, bring my down to 198lbs, for a total weight loss of 106lbs.

And now, on to my goal summary for Week 2.

Meditation happened four times over the course of last week, which is more than half of my stated goal of once per day. This means I'm getting to my goal, but not there yet.

Puzzles were done every day, including doing the daily Lumosity games.

On a side note, it actually bugs me a bit that, in order to get the full experience, you have to pay. But that's just something that annoys me.

Workouts have started, I have continued using the Pull Up Bar in my doorway, and can now almost do two full pull ups from the ground.

I agree with you on the Lumosity thing.  Why does it have to cost money?  It's really expensive!  That being said, you inspired me to download the free app and I've been playing the free games.  It's fun and challenging!

Well, to be honest, I think the reason it costs anything is either a) Running costs for the website, or B) Keeping the science of the site up to date.

It was an app for my iPad (free download).  I just type "Lumosity" into the app search.  I get to play about 3 games a day, and then I'm done.  It looks like if I want full access, it'd be $15/month.  The few games I get to play for free are fun and quick for when I'm bored though!  :)

Yeah...I searched on my Android phone, there was no Lumosity app... *sigh* Why does everybody make things for iPhone/iPad and not Android?

15$ per month? What the whaaaa? I'm only paying between 60$ and 70$ for a full year o_O I forget the exact cost. I can check later, but I'm sure it's less than 15$ per month. Maybe they have a madly expensive monthly rate to try and push people into the year-long plans? Or maybe the app costs extra?

I think you're right about the higher monthly fee.  If I remember correctly, the yearly fee was only like $69 or something?  Either way, I was thinking - I can just play Brain Age game on my Nintendo DS.  That's pretty fun too!
