BlueKiwi works on Self-Control

I have planned to post my challenge goals yesterday, but I had a major migraine attack yesterday and was not functioning for most of the day.

I need to figure out what's causing the frequency of my headaches and migraines to increase for the past couple of months.  I think it's mostly weather related, but could it be food, too?  I know I have been drinking more hot coffee and tea because the weather is getting cold.  So lowering caffeinated stuff will be part of my challenge this time.

Main Quest:  Be Able to Do an L-Seat

Goal 1:  Food Control

Eat quality calories, consume less sugar, and drink less caffeinated stuff.

Track food consumed everyday and record how much sugar and coffee/tea consumed.

Stick with target calories/macros for training and non-training days.

Target:   Training Day:       Calories = ~1550 with Carb - 170 g; Protein - 125 g; Fat 40 g

              Non-training day: Calories = ~1300 with Carb - 130 g; Protein - 110 g; Fat 38 g

To be graded:  One cup of coffee allowed per day -

* Grading:

  A. 5+ days/wk stayed on target

  B. 4 days on target

  C. 3 days on target

  D. 2 days on target

  F.  Only 1 day in a week on target.

Goal 2:  Body Control

Be able to hold forearm planking for 5 minutes by the end of this challenge.

Continue to strength train for 3-4 times per week.

Record weights lifted & reps and planking time.

To be graded:  Planking time -

* Grading:

  A. 5 minutes or more

  B. 4:00 - 4:59 minutes

  C. 3:00 - 3:59 minutes

  D. 2:30 - 2:59 minutes

  F.  No change.

Goal 3: Mind Control

Do yoga and meditation in the morning.

* Grading:

  A. 5+ days/wk did yoga and meditated

  B. 4 days/wk did yoga and meditated

  C. 3 days/wk did yoga and meditated

  D. 2 days/wk did yoga and meditated

  F.  Only 1 day in a week /did yoga and meditated.

Side Quest:

Sleep is important!  Be in bed by 11:00pm.

* Grading:

  A. 5+ days/wk stayed on target

  B. 4 days on target

  C. 3 days on target

  D. 2 days on target

  F.  Only 1 day in a week on target.

Life Quest:  Finish What I Have Started

Putting away boxes:  So, we moved about 6 months ago and we still have some boxes left unpacked.  To make sure I keep unpacking boxes, I want to unpack at least a box and put stuff away on the weekends.

Finishing dissertation:  Because various "reasons" and my tendency for procrastination, I am behind on my writing schedule for finishing my dissertation.  For these 6 weeks, I am putting aside an hour per day to work on my dissertation.

Motivation:  I need to move on with my life and be happy.  No more excuses for putting things off and feeling guilty about taking off for holidays.  I am tired of coming up with excuses and complaining about why things don’t work the way they should.  So it is time to take charge of my life and get things done!

great goals! I am with you on the plank goal, it does wonders for the abs even though its unpleasant!

do your headaches start at the base of your skull, on one side or the other and do they go away when you lie down flat? I get cervicogenic headaches, which build up to behind my eye on one side. i have a hunch that many people actually suffer from them. i had them for years, particularly after sitting down a lot. yoga backbends and forward bends take the pressure off the area, if thats what you are suffering from. Dont want to butt in on it, just thought i could help if thats what you have. Doctors dont seem interested in finding out what causes the headaches, but my left hip is clicky, and causes an imbalance up my back that leads to the headaches if i dont do those exercises regularly. painfree when i do though.

good luck in the challenge and cutting down on coffee is great either way, your stomach lining will thank you for it!

Found YOU!! :love_heart:

Sorry about the headaches, that sucks. Could they be sleep or stress related? Those are my two biggest factors when I star getting them regularly.

Awesome to have you on board my girl, love you!!!!!  :triumphant: :triumphant: :triumphant: :triumphant:

Okay, now I have to try and imagine what a kiwi with an assassin hood looks like. Talk about mind boggling…

(For that matter, what does a kiwi doing an L-seat look like…?)

Gotcha! :D

re unpacking boxes... ahem... We moved in almost 4 years ago, and I'm pretty sure there are still some boxes that moved with us (unopened) at least twice. *blush* Unpacking boxes after just six months is... wow. :D

I hope you find out what's triggering your migraines - there seem to be like a gazillion possibilities. My boss gets them when he eats too much meat. My sister's migraines seem to be triggered at least partly by too much light. (Might she have become a vampire without us noticing?! Hmmmm...)

Good luck, and don't forget to pack your dragon slaying swords!

Week 1, Day 1:

Goal 1:  Food Control - Eat quality calories, consume less sugar, and drink less caffeinated stuff.

Due to the migraine attack, I didn’t eat much this day.  Had a cup of warm tea, some taro soup, and a couple of oranges for the day.  I can’t remember if I drank coffee to help ease the pain or I just took the meds.

Goal 2:  Body Control - Planking and strength training.

Goal missed due to the migraine.

Goal 3:  Mind Control - Do yoga and meditation in the morning

I did the leg-up-the-wall pose after the pain subdued to help with relaxing the muscle tension in the back.

Side Quest:  In bed by 11pm

I was in bed before 11pm and fell asleep shortly after despite I had been lying in bed almost the whole day.

Life Quest:

Didn’t get anything done.

*****************************************************************************************

Week 1, Day 2:

Goal 1:  Food Control - Eat quality calories, consume less sugar, and drink less caffeinated stuff.

I didn’t have any coffee today!  Only had a cup of green tea and two cups of rooibos tea (red tea, naturally caffeine free)!

I had some chestnut bread and taro soup for breakfast, veggie curry with chicken and more taro soup for lunch, and dinner was tofu with lots veggies and mushrooms.

Goal 2:  Body Control - Planking and strength training.

No strength training today.  Body was sore all over from Monday’s tensing.

Plank time:  2:10

Goal 3:  Mind Control - Do yoga and meditation in the morning

Did yoga and meditation for 20 minutes in the morning

Side Quest:  In bed by 11pm

I was in bed at 10:43pm, but I didn't fall asleep right away though.  It was cold last night.  I was trying really hard to warm my blankets without turning the heater on too high.  High heat temp = dry nose = pain.

Life Quest:

Didn’t get anything done.  I was too tired to do anything.

Hi thepalv!  Thanks!  Yes, I have acutally grown to like planking and I think it really helps with my posture overall.

Some of my headaches do start at the base of my skull, but they don't necessary go away went I lie down though.  I also have experienced pain in my forehead when I lay down flat.  I usually sleep with an elevated firm pillow and make sure my neck doesn't roll off the pillow in the middle of the night.

I find that some of the yoga poses help to relieve my tension headaches so I am definitely sticking to a regular yoga rountine.

Thanks for the tips!  Will definitely look into the cervicogenic headache stuff!  Rawr!  Thanks!

Yay Kiwi!

Rawr!  ^_^

Found YOU!! :love_heart:

Sorry about the headaches, that sucks. Could they be sleep or stress related? Those are my two biggest factors when I star getting them regularly.

Awesome to have you on board my girl, love you!!!!!  :triumphant:

YAY!  ASH!  ASH!  Rawr!  Mmm, we think it's the combination of cold and dryness though.  We are doing experiments and tracking room temperature/humidity.  But, coldness has always been my biggest enemy!  Sleep might be another reason since the weather changed I haven't been able to sleep well and can't seem to sleep through the night at all.  As for stress, nothing has really changed... Still under the same amount of stress as it has been for months now...  Hopefully it's just weather related!   Hope you are doing better!  Rawr!  Good to see your smiley face!  Rawr!

I never pegged you for being such a control freak! Ha ha!

Good luck!

Mmm, I am not a control freak.  But, I think I need to be!  LOL!  Thanks, DD!

love the food control and life quest challenge! i too, only have one coffee per day... except maybe on the weekend... this past weekend i re-discovered how delicious starbuck's black coffee is.  :hopelessness:

good luck!

Oh my god!  Me, too!  I had a cup of Pike Place roast black coffee from Starbucks last week.  It was hot, bitter, yet satisfying hint of nutty and cocoa!  I can't wait for the Christmas and Anniversary blends to come out!  I'll save my coffee quota for them... Mmmm....

awesome kiwi!  i'm inspired and may try a caffeine related side quest at some point in this challenge  :pride:

Rawr!  Thanks, Nick!  One cup per day isn't too bad, right?  Hehee!  Good Luck!

Okay, now I have to try and imagine what a kiwi with an assassin hood looks like. Talk about mind boggling…

(For that matter, what does a kiwi doing an L-seat look like…?)

Moo....  I wonder, too.  I am invisible to most motion sensors though, especially those automatic double sliding doors.  I usually have to follow people to go in because they don't always slide open for me.  Sigh.

There you are Kiwi!!!  Sorry to hear about the headaches.  I know that frequent headaches are very demoralizing.  I hope you are able to discover the cause and then the cure.  Good luck with your goals!

Rawr!  Thanks, Melyssa!  Yeah, stupid headaches.  They make me so sad.  Hopefully lowing caffieine and watching out for coldness/humidity level will improve.  Thanks a bunch!  Good luck to you, too!  Rawr!

RAWR!! Awesome goals.  RAWR!!  I'll be lurking...

Rawr!  Rawr!  Rawr!  Thanks, forkboy!  Rawr!

Gotcha! :D

LOL!  I am sure we had unopened boxes that moved with us, too.  I counted that we have about 12 boxes left.  Some are stuff we need to donate and some are stuff we need to bring to the recycling plant.  So I just need to organize those and figure out where to put the rest.  We also have stuff in plastic bags I need to sort though.  But that's for the weekend and hubs is gonna help.  Rawr!

I know for sure the eating too much cheese is one of my triggers for migraines (and I love cheese :sorrow: ) and being in dusty/moldy environment is another.  I should add cold to the list, too.

Yes, have swords and firestones in my bag!  Thanks!  And good luck to you, too, Swampling!  Rawr!

Sub'd!

And welcome to the Assassins!

Rawr!  Rawr!  Thanks, Waldgeist!  Rawr!

Lol, ok Darwin, that is awesome and just how I see our kiwi!

Wishing you an awesome Wednesday kiwi! big hugs!!! :love_heart: :love_heart: :love_heart:

Rawr!  Thanks, Ash!  Wednesday has been going okay.  A bit busy at work and had a slow start this morning--trying to decide if I should bring my humidifier to work.  I brought it in because we are at 30% humidity today.  So dry...  Hope your Wednesday is going well!  Rawr!

Kiwi must really be working hard on the non-procrastination thing. She hasn't posted anything here in 22 hours.

Rawr!  I tried.  Got a lot of work stuff done.  Prepping for big meeting this Friday.  Mmm, what to wear... LOL!
