Question for the upside downers!

When I do my handstands, my left hand gets pretty numb. No tingles or shooting pains or anything like that, just numb.

A year or two ago I developed some sort of tendonitis in my left elbow. It's mostly gone now, but my arm does tend to go numb if I sleep on it while bent.

I'm thinking it has something to do with that, but maybe it's more to do with wrist flexibility. Anyone heard of this before?

This is a great thread. I've posted this elsewhere, but I might as well post here too! So I've been working on my freestanding handstands and right now my max is 6 seconds. What are things you have done to increase your time balancing? Hollow holds and practicing the crow pose have been suggested so far, but just checking to see if there are other exercises I can do in conjunction with them.

Tonight I tried doing handstands on push-up stands (they are the curved type, so I don't know if they are technically paralettes), with mixed results.  It seems like I could hold for a little bit longer, but it was harder to get up and put more strain on my wrists and forearms, which is the opposite of what I was expecting.  I'll try it again a few more times.  They may just take some getting used to.

I have just started doing piked push ups.  I don't know that they will help as far as balance goes, but they work a lot of the muscles you use in handstands.  Also, they are a step on the way to handstand push ups.

I have this thing where my pinky and ringfinger goes numb.. I know I have some knots in my elbows causing this, and it all comes from tightness in the teres muscles. I don't know if this is what you have.. But you might have some muscle knots causing some pinned nerves...

From the few massages that I've had, I can tell that that general area is very tight on both sides, though its more focused upwards toward the upper shoulder area. I don't know if that muscle specifically has a problem though.

I'm pretty naive when it comes to muscle knots, how can you tell that you have one somewhere? Or is that the same as saying that it's tight?

My teres muscles are rock hard. When I have someone break them down it goes from hard to knots then muscle. If you have knots they will feel like lumps underneath your skin. You also have trigger points which are tiny pea sized lumps in your muscles. Both can be very painful when massaged.

You might want to try some stretches and mobility exercises on your shoulders to losen them up.
