Hi all ! I just discovered this web site a day ago and boy does it ring true to me. Here is a little piece of me, of where i am starting from.

I am from Quebec, Canada, 31 year old mother of an energetic 3.5 year old boy who bikes on two wheels, while I need to job to keep up

With a boyfriend who probably has minus 10% body fat who is quite active and can eat basicly fried foods, chips and pepsi every meal without any effect on his body.

I am pretty skinny family, since i am at 105-108 pounds when wet, and this has been the same since forever. But something changed at 30 yearsish, and after pregnancy. I weight the same, even less, but the body fat/muscle ratio changed and i don't like what i see. It doesn't feel right or healthy. And i don't feel sexy at all.

So my challenge is probably diffrent than most : i want to gain weight, but pretty weight. Healthy weight. Muscles. ('cause now I only have 2 muscles, the ones to pick my son in my arms)

Another important factor, or excuse, is that i fight Cystic Fribroses since birth. Wich is a digestive and lung chronical degenerativ illness. And part of the reason why i havn't gained weight up to now, and why i need some extra pounds for the hard times. My body is fighting infections in my lungs all the time, and it eats up a hole lot of energy. When i get sick, 10 pounds can go as fast a clicking my fingers.

I am doing this, because i want to be able to play outside with my kid without losing my breath. Because i want to show miself that i can do this, even if at this moment while i write my lungs have a hard time, and it scares me. To teach me that i don't need to let it stop me from giving it all i've got. Because i don't like the way i started looking and talking at myself. Because i don't want to end up not loving this awsome body/machine i live in. Because i want to show gratefullness to this body of mine who got me to 31 year old, and who gave me my own miracle, a child i was never supposed to live long enough to have. When i was born, they told my parents i probably would make it to begining of adulthood. In your face doctors! But I could do so much more if i started acting healthier.

So now, why not make a list of my favorite excuses :

- no time : says the girls who plays PS3 for a few hours straight without problems. I do have a lot to do in a day, but it doesn't matter does it ?

- too tired : Maybe sleeping 8 hours a day would help, duh. And exercising too migh help. So lets do this : start the day with exercise. there you go, no more excuses !

- no knowledge : not a problem, i just found an awsome community.I can learn.

- I currently have a hard time breathing and i fear i am getting worst : so what ? Give it you all anyway, you might be suprised.

So, i am sick and tired of my dumb excuses, and i want to make change, and for it to work this time. I am aware this will be a trial and error process, but I will keep eyes on the big picture. 30 years of bad habits aint gonna change in a month, but I can start there. Hopefully your support will help me continue once the motivation drops, as i usually does after a few weeks once my balloon has deflated.

So i give you, the Main Quest :

I will weight a sexy, awesomly fit and energized 125 pounds between now and 365 days.

And the goals to achieve this :

1) I will sleep for 7.5-8 hours every day (with the help of Yoga Nidra)

- A : 8h (+ if with yoga nidra)

- B 7.5h (+ if with yoga nidra)

- C 7h (+ if with yoga nidra)

- D 6.5h (+ if with yoga nidra)

- E 6h (+ if with yoga nidra)

- F 5h (+ if with yoga nidra)

2) I will train 30-40 minutes 3 times a week with Nike+ on Kinect, in the mornings, on monday, wednesday and friday. And continue the thuesday night 1h30h yoga i already do

- A : 3 times nike+ and 1 yoga (+ if i walk on my breaks at work)

- B : 3 times nike+ no yoga (+ if i walk on my breaks at work)

- C : 2 times nike+ and 1 yoga (+ if i walk on my breaks at work)

- D : 2 times nike+ and no yoga (+ if i walk on my breaks at work)

- E : 1 times nike+ and 1 yoga (+ if i walk on my breaks at work)

3) i will Paleotize my diet gradually, starting by the breakfast

- A : big paleo breakfast

- B : big regular breakfast (with grains)

- C: small paleo breakfast

- D : small snack breakfast

- E : no breakfast

Life quest : (updated 20/11)

takes my enzimes and vitamins with every meal

- A: perfect

- B: missed 1 meal

- C: missed 2

For this challenge, i will use Nike+ Kinect i have at home, because it seems to work for me, it's quick, simple but hard enough to get me started, and I doesn't bore me since it changes every day. (then I can move on to what you guys do wich scares the hell out of me). If i ever eat out on lunch time, it will be at the Thai restaurant, eating a sauté meal, wich will last 2 lunches for me.

So chears everibody, I will go and get inspired by your threads now, and tomorrow morning is my first Monday of the challenge !

So, first day of the challenge for me, and it went well overall but i have some ajustments to make if want to make it.

I woke up at 5, without snoozing ( putting the alarm on the other side of the room helped a lot), did my treatments and trained for e5 min. It wasn't as hard as i thought it would be after 1 monthe doing nothing so i am pleased.

I ate a big brakefast : an vegetable omelet with just a bit of cheese, fruit juice and a tallglass of water. Then i packed a lunchfrom last night leftovers.

Yesterday i got to bed at 11h11 pm, but did a yoga nidra to help me sleep better. I am officially starting today so it ok.

Now, i was soooohungry all day, andifelt pretty weakbecauseof exercise. My body tellsme i burned too much energy in the morning. So today icalled my nutritionnist to know howvmany calories i need to keep my weight while training since i have CF. I suppose it will be around 2500-3000 a day. I will need to work on bringing my intake up.

So a good start i think !

I am reading all i can find on paleo to get more informed.

Day 2 went well

Paleo: my focus today was more a big breakfast and as many calories i can. So after the omelet i added carrots, apple puree, tall glass of milk. Lunch was pizza and at night fish n chips with potatos and a huge amount of magerine. I felt better but was still hungry most of the day, or "lacking something" if that makes sense. Iguess i need carbs until i figure how to do this right.

I di not exercise today, its rest day. But i had a yoga night sceduled i had to cancell because of my boyfriends dentist appointment. And i fell asleep with my son... So ithink it best to respect my curfew over the yoga session for today.

Sleep: i fell asleep around 8h30 in my son's bed yesterday and woke at 9hpm, i read a couple of minutes but i was so drowsy i went to bed. So i slept a whole 8hrs and more. Felt good this morning!

Todays grade is B! Because of the yoga i missed, and i'm happy overall about my performance. Its very subjective.... I will think of a better way to figure my grades :)

Off to bed i go! Im beginning to enjoy my curfew, how weird...

Day 3 - november 20th

1) sleep C

I slep 15-20 min with my son while putting him to bed and then went to bed at 10h. For a total of 7h25 of sleep. Its easier to go at ten than 9 for me at the moment, and even that, if i am consistent will improve my sleeping habits a lot, so i am pretty happy.

2) exercise

Today was cardio, and it left me super energized! It was great. Ineed to put the kinect in the basement though, because i am missing some room in the living room and i cant dosone drills because of it, it wont detect me well in the space. I will fix that this weekend. It willgive me a yoga spot at the same time, wich is great.

3)eating. A

- breakfast: 2 eggs, 3 bacon strips, 1 orange, tea with sugar and milk

- snack: vanilla yogurt

- lunch: yesterdays leftover

- diner: steack with potatoes and carrots

- snack: a little bit of chips and half a glass of wine with my boyfriend

I ate a lot but was still hungry when meal time got there. I started counting calories with my fitness pal and i dont think i have to worry, i ate 3580 calories ! My doctor would be proud

4) life quest : pills

I took them all whoot whoot! I had a little stomach ake from a miss 2 days ago, but not as extreme as usual. Happy dance!

On another note, i have convinced 2 work buddies to join me at nerd fitness ! Probably this weekend.

Day 4 - nov 21

1) sleep D

Went to bed at 10h30, so 6,5h

Not so good...

2) exercise: rest day! I walked at my morning break

3) food A

i hate 15618 cal, nearly not enough but i hate a lot. The difference is in the fat.

Same brakefast as yesterday, i was full, but for some reason after i felt hungry, 20 min after. So either my sence of fullness is associated with carbs/grains or fat, or it just meant i digested easily what i ate. I took a small snack (banana muffin) at 10h. The rest of the day went well.

Life quest: A

took all my pills!

I realized today that i havn't had a single drop of energy in the afternoon or at 5h when driving back home. Which is pretty cool!

Day 5 -nov 22

Day 6 - nov 23

No brakefast other than a piece of beef jerkey and tea... Not good

I had no more eggs or bacon, so i ate toasts with creton, carrots, tea and a glass of milk.

First week update!

So here is my score for the fist week :

1) sleep : average of 6,25 hours of sleep. So i will givemyself an E

My weekend is the hardest for me sleepwise, ifind it hard to go to bed esrly since i want to spend time with my boyfriend. But i am still happy with the result, i did improve, i used to have 5 hours of sleep.

2) exercise: B plus

I tained 3 times, but missed yoga because my boyfriend had an appointment at the dentist

This was way easier than i expected, i wasn't even sore! And yesterday we changed our basement setting to move the old tv and thekinect there to allow more room to train. Me boyfriend willstart doing the game too.

3) brakefast : B

I ate mostlypaleo, execpt 2 days shere iate bread and one day with only beef jerky.

Life quest: i took all my pills all week! A

Overall the week went weel, i am happy with the results even thougt i still have to work harder. It is an improvement. I found eating less grain not toohard,but irealized my feeling of fullness comes a lot from the grains, when i feel stuffed with no more room. Eating paleo in the morning felt a lot different. Also, no drowsyness the whole week except friday when i ate a lot of rice and pasta.

Next weeks starts today!

Day 8 - nov 25

1) sleep : B

Went to bed at 9h30 to wakeupat 5h am. I was super tired at 9,but i had treatments to do because i feel the beginning of a cold so ihad to postpone sleeping a little

2) exercise: A

Pills: B, i forgot a couple of vitamins because i didn't take the time to refill my pillbox

A cold is coming and today is vaccine day.... So i might have totake it easy on exercise ... I will replace my training by yogaif need be.

You are a very strong person. Cystic fibrosis is totally not an excuse, bit I love your attitude. Run through life with inner strength and conviction and anything is within reach. Knowing you're following me makes me want to work even harder :3 I'll follow you through this challenge to. There are so many awesome people on here. Wish we all loved in one community. It'd be the best town on Earth.

I went to bed at 9h30, woke up at 4h45 before the alarm this morning. This tells me 7h hours of sleep is probaly my minimum or optimal amount of sleep. Is is great if i can figure this out in this challenge!

2) exercise: A

I felt ill and sore this morning so i hesitated to train, but once i wasup it wasn't sobad so igaveit a go. Proud of myself doing it. and for respecting my body's pace while doing it. I feel quitetired thoug, it might have been a little too much but its all good.

3) big paleo breakfast so A

We bought the best bacon ever this weekend, andits awsome for brakefast, fatty, nutty, rich but notsaltyatall with a smoke aroma... Om nom. Breakfast is becoming my favorite meal !

Pills: didnt fill the damn thing again, so missed a couple vitamins, butall my enzimes are taken. So B

Good day overall, especially since i the basis of the challenge habit is taking place. I look forward to training, and

enjoy my breakfast. And i am getting to know my sleep pattern better to figure how much sleep i really need. Happy dance!

Lessons:

- sleeping 7h is about what i need but less than that affects my day andmy lungs

Than week 3 was a failure. I felt sick in the beginning of the week and didn't train. then my son got sick, i didn't train at all, and i had my christmas party. Sleep was bad, breakfast i did have everyday but didn't make good choices. So a bad week...

Soi had:

4) pills F ( i took the digestive ones,but never the vitamins. I didn't take time to do my pillbox)

Now i want to go back ontrack, but find it hard si ce i amso tired, and didn't train monday. Today is train day and ireallyhave to kick myself inthe butt, idon't want to miss it again.

The roads certainly a bumpy one. The last two weeks I've been sore everywhere. I was kinda taking my exercising easier to focus on weight gain so I don't think it was that. I think this time if the year is a hard one for everyone. Stay strong and trot on :3

Last 2 weeks update !

 

So i didn't note what i did, so it will have to be from memory. here goes :

 

after last post, i actually got right back on track with everything. I trained 2 times that week, and had 4 good brakefasts. My pills taking went well too. As for sleep, i went to bet around 10h30 every night, mostly. So that week earns a C.

 

Last week : overall B

 

I trained 3 times : A, i missed a day, but got on track the next day, so i still did my 3 workouts. And it felt good, it's as if it stuck on me. Wich was the point !

 

I slept an average of 7-7h30 hours everyday, so C

 

I ate good paleo brakefast most days, with a little more bread in that week, so i give myself a B

 

Pills : i missed 1 meal, so B

End of challenge update !

 

In general, I had a score of C-D. Not very good if you look at the numbers.

 

But if I look at what i gained from the experience, especially the habit I formed, I say i WIN ! Maybe my goals were too hard on me at the beginning or not pinpointed correctly, but i think i did good.

 

Lessons learned :

 

- Breakfast is now a favorite meal of mine. I will continue to do a high protein brakefast, but not necessaraly Paleo. I will try to add a little bit more variaty. I already borrowed breakfast books frome the library for inspiration. I feel the best without bread or grains in the morning, so i will aim for 4 paleo meals and 3 including grain. This will give me more flexibility in the mornings.

 

- Exercise 3 times a week is now part of my routine for good. While doing the NF challenge, I finished 1 month of training on NIKe+ and I see i improved a little. My cardio is lot better, and  I especially like that even on days when i think my lungs have a hard time, I can still do the whole workout. I just go a little easy on my expectations and reach to finish it instead of performing.

 

- Sleep : 7h-7h30 hours of sleep is about the minimum I need to feel good. Waking at 5 am doesn't pose problems anymore, and I don't even need a coffee. If I do take one it's more for the taste than the effect. Probably 8h would be better for me, but considering family life, alone time, and reality, 7-7h30 is manageable. Sometimes I even sleep at the same time as my kid, with is 8h30ish, si I gain a few more hours there, as well as on weekend naps.

 

- Pills : i have gotten better, and found a better system. I put vitamins and the like in the pill box, and the digestvie enzymes stay in there jars since these have the biggest quantitys per meal. That way it takes less time doing the pill box and taking them il faster too.  I still tend to forget at times, but mostly on snacks. Meals are pretty much coverred.

 

so YAY ! Happy dance, pretty proud of myself for sticking to the plan, and getting back on track when i fell off the wagon. This is a first.

 

I did 5 weeks of the challenge. But my score i barely passed ... do i still get to move to level 2, or do i have to stay at level 1 ? In my heart i think i can graduate, but i would like to get the seal of approval form the higher ups lol
