Anathema
Hi Batguys and Batgals . . . I'm starting up this thread on behalf of founding Bat Vortexofsleep. Here's the description from last Challenge. I'll add that this is an awesome group whose support was super important to me when I hit some rough spots last Challenge. Our fellowship began three challenges ago and spawned from a conversation between a bunch of newbies: we wanted to wake up and be badass, like Batman rolling out of bed and doing pushups. Since then, we've turned Batman into an adjective, roughly equivalent to awesome. "I felt so Batman." "Great job, you're doing totally Batman on this challenge!" All you need is grim determination and a desire for badassery. I've found us to be ridiculously supportive and encouraging.Join us. We're fun. You can verb nouns like Calvin. First-timers welcome. Pushups not required as a goal. Square jaws also not required. You may have nipples on your batsuit if you desire. kingclumsy
I'm in, if you'll have me. I'm looking for a Batman-like balance of Strength, speed and Agility. First timer (though fourth attempt). Imagining sports like you're training to be a superhero is always good in my books and I would LOVE to be able to fall out of bed into pressups (though in my house I'd collide with the wall) Just don't make me wear the first-Robin pants (Underpants to Americans) and I'll be fine. Anathema
Welcome! Don't worry, you get to choose the Batman-adjacent garb you fancy most. Me, I swing back and forth (as it were) between Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Halle Berry when it comes to my taste in Catwoman suits. Though I'd like to think my attitude remains largely Eartha because, well, duh. Level 9 * Eladrin Scout Clan: Mek'het * Covenant: Invictus "An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. Anathema
And . . . holy comic book heroes, Batman . . . is that a Spider Jerusalem tattoo? Is that you, or just something you found and liked? Either way, dude. Awesome. Level 9 * Eladrin Scout Clan: Mek'het * Covenant: Invictus "An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. kingclumsy
That is indeed Spider Jerusalem Tattoo an it is indeed on my left shoulder. It was my first (and so far only ) Tattoo. I love Warren Ellis and Transmetropolitan in particular. Yeah I'd go for Eartha Kitt for best catwoman costume (or just best catwoman) I dunno for me?, I'd go for Nolan Movies functional suit. Regardless, the voice would be Kevin Conroy from the animated series. Though if any DC hero, then Green Arrow, with hood and forked beard Just got back from my first gym session in ages. It was a bit of a fact finding mission to remember how much I can comfortably lift, I'll write it up on my challenge thread in a minute. Anathema
Welcome! This thread has been a little quiet, so thrilled to have a little more chatter. It was pretty active last Challenge, I think folks are maybe distracted by holidays and family and all those silly things. But we can entertain and support each other here in this cyber batcave and hopefully others will drop in soon! More people are always good. quite pleased, went to the gym on my way back from work yesterday. did an upper body focused workout as a) my legs still ache from squatlifting on friday and pushing ikea packages on saturday and I have roller derby tonight! Also did three "Front-side-front-other side " planks (15 seconds in each pose) killer but felt really good! okay, self congratulations over. Anathema
Yay! I did a 3-mile run yesterday morning, which isn't really that much, but sicne my 6-mile run on Saturday was the first real training run for my marathon in March, I'm psyched about. Going to the gym for lifting tonight--need to drag my husband kicking and screaming. Actually, he's really good about going when I tell him it's time, but he is usually so exhausted from work (he does a very physical job) that I have to light a fire under him to get him going. But I downloaded a bunch of Babylon 5 and Dr. Who to my iPad for him to watch on the exercise machines, so that's an incentive! Pregaming Thankgivukkah . . . figure I can eat a modest amount of all the good things for dinner and just not (a) eat more than I really want just because it's there ( not waste my calories on stuff I don't care about [Chex mix before dinner? Really? My in-laws can be a little downmarket sometimes], and © just confine the eating of fatty starchy things to the one meal, not have more for tea later on, and more for breakfast, and so forth . . . And sweet guitar work on that video! I offer in return some fine classic psychobilly . . . My next aim is to squatlift my fiance's weight (im about 3/4 the way there but i wont say what that is) Thankgivvukah? Isn't that where Americans Celebrate the rededication of the Temple of the Plymouth Colony? and People Eat Turkey for Eight nights? also, I love me some psychobilly I'm not up on bands names and whatnot (beyond Nekromantix) but when i hear it. Anathema
I'm quite pleased with myself . . . survived the delightful American holiday dedicated to nothing but wolfing down as much food as possible with minor damage. Okay, so I ate ridiculous amounts of food on Thanksgiving itself, but got back on plan for the rest of the weekend. Helps that my husband was so eager to escape his family on Friday that we drove off without any leftovers! (also did a 3-mile run before T-day dinner which burned maybe the calories in a small slice of pie, but also got me out of the house, so away from awkward family interactions and appetizer plates!) This is the best I've done on a Challenge yet. To be honest, I'm not doing as well as I'd hoped at actually getting to my weight goal (I can come up with lots of reasons, but they'd be lame). But, weight is moving in the right direction, keeping up with my workouts and tracking, and what I've learned is that the financial reward system I came up with really does help. Like, if I want a drink at night I have to ask myself, do I want that drink more or do I want money to my reward more? Usually, I want the money. How're y'all? I'm really feeling good about this one, unlike last one where I was really struggling from the beginning just cuz of personal life stuff. Batgirl
Well, I broke my finger and can't lift weights. And then because we love the emergency room so much, we got to go back on thanksgiving night when my husband was attacked by gallstones. On the plus side, I've stayed on top of my diet and dropped a few pounds. NeutralGoodPirate
Sounds like you are both doing well even through tricky times Personally, everything seems to be going okay for me at the moment. I'm playing plenty of Dodgeball which keeps me happy and I'm either jogging or doing basic circuits when I'm not on the court. Anathema
I feel pretty good about my Challenge. I stuck with the training even over Thanksgiving and, while I did go overboard on some party eating, not too bad. And no excessive drinking, which is always an option this time of the year! Also, I kept checking in on my timeline, which in the past I've been sloppy about. I think my reward system ($1 for every thing I do right each day) really worked. I mean it's only $1 but they add up! I got to $85 over the Challenge (having lost a bunch once I instituted the penalty system halfway through). The main thing I'll do differently next time is in goal setting. I actually know better than to make the goal a result ("I'm going to lose 10 lbs") vs. a process ("I'm going to commit to a 1,000 calorie deficit per day through eating right and exercising."). But still, good Challenge and good revised goal. And I did lose a little weight (3 lbs, so .5 per week . . . not awesome but better than gaining!). Bring on the next one! I'm ready! Batgirl
Challenge went pretty well considering the circumstances. I've got one more finger surgery then some more time for healing and then I should be back up to full workout-like-a-maniac mode. kingclumsy
Mine was good but it could've gone a lot better. To some extent real life got in the way but I think I did a good bit of mind conditioning for the future. I need more specific with my goals and being in a quieter time of year will help.
