chris_de_maas rebuilds herself

You say late? I say a wizard is never late, (insert your name here), he arrives precisely when he means to!

It's been a pretty insane few weeks. Mr De_maas and I are now officially nomads and in New Zealand. The challenge actually started the week of our departure and the trip lasted pretty much the entire week: left on Tuesday morning from Copenhagen and arrived Friday morning in Wellington. Also I wanted to take a week to get "settled" before having to think about challenging myself on top of changing so many essential things in my life. That and I turned 25 a few days ago! :P

Anyway, here I am now, ready to get started again.

Main goal: rebuild myself.

Goal #1: rebuild myself physically

Because of my injury last July, I haven't been able to workout and, however much I've missed it, I feel kind of scared at the idea of getting started again. I know, it's silly, but that's just how it is.

I don't feel quite ready to start working out full power again though, so I'll only be following the mobilisation (4x a week) and strength (2/3x a week) programs that my physio gave me before we left Kbh. I haven't been keeping up with them at all due to the trip and everything but enough now, I have to get fully and completely over this injury.

Goal #2: rebuild myself mentally

I've been a bit all over the place in my head in the past few months, there was so much to take care and get ready before we left on top of the daily stuff. I've also been in sort of a rut at work. I really believe that meditating would help so back at it. I want to reach 10 minutes of meditation every morning on the last week of this challenge. I may up it to 15 minutes if I feel ready but will not rush into it.

Goal #3: rebuild myself socially

For the past few challenges, I've sucked at posting regularly. I guess I followed too many people and got overwhelmed when I'd wake up to an overflowing inbox and, feeling guilty about not posting on every single person's thread, I wouldn't update my own and just hide under a rock. This is just silly. I miss you guys, reading about your updates and actually posting. So I will update my own thread at least 3 times a week, and I will follow 10 people and post on their threads at least 3 times a week as well.

Side goals:

- Build my own bodyweight program for the next challenge.

- Get a haircut. I haven't cut my hair since July 2012 and basically grew out my pixie haircut and this is getting a bit ridiculous!

Its not silly!! I felt it too after my back surgery and after my bike accident. My advice is take it slowly and you will build confidence as you go :D And of course you have a wonderful support group which help a ton ;)

If I didn't know better I'd think that I wrote this paragraph myself  Here's to hopefully not hiding under rocks this challenge *cheers* Lol

Just went through your goals. One word: hahahahaha! (yeah, I know, not technically a word but you get the idea!)

Yay, glad you are here. Will there be pictures of your new nomad sites?

There will be! We're planning on having a blog up but Mr De_maas is super busy with work so he hasn't put it up quite yet but I can post some pictures here if you want :)

I was trying to figure out why you were awake right now cause I didn't feel like you should be. And then I realized its because I got used to when you would respond in Copenhagen time but now you are on New Zealand time (which according to my phone is a 12 hr time difference, lol) But now you are 18 hours ahead which is just weird. (sorry for the random babbling about time zones 'n' such, lol)

And we have the same goal because we are still sisters ;) Duh!!

Haha! Love that you're even keeping an eye out on my sleep schedule! :P But yes, your phone is completely accurate, it's 6:35pm here, 6:35am in Donkey Kong Land, both on Monday. It's still Sunday night for you, right?

Well its 12:41 AM on Monday, so it still seems more like Sunday night than anything. Lol. And of course I'm up late working on a group project because for the next two weeks I'm stuck in group project hell (4 different groups in 4 different classes!!)

Yay!  You're back!  :)

Your goals all sound like a great way to get settled in and back in the swing of things.  I think sticking with the physio exercises until you're back at 100% sounds really wise.  And of course, I'm sure a lot of us here would be more than happy to help you come up with a great bodyweight program.

If you're not fully ready to get back into training, you could always pick up a comfy pair of hiking boots and explore the local terrain.  I would have to imagine that the hiking is amazing out there!

How are the group projects doing? Been paired with lazy arses again? :(

I love that you're back doing a challenge! I didn't think you were doing this one with all the stuff happening.

*dances around*

Your goals are great!

Hahaha! Thanks :D

I missed you guys too much to even consider not doing this challenge! I'll put some pictures up if you guys want :)

No way on earth I'd be able to stay away from you guys, nomadic or not, as long as I have an internet connection, I'll be smiley-ing up your threads ;)

Mr De_maas went running the other day and found a really nice playground so we're talking about going there to play around every second day if the weather allows (it's raining today for the first time since we got here), you know, just to get back into it.

Thanks for offering your help with the bodyweight program :) I still need to figure out what I want to do, I keep jumping from idea to idea :P

Yeah.. I have no idea how to make pictures work here... I only get lucky with the process once in a while.

Unless you just post them to some picture site and then post a link here...

Not very good at posting this week but I'm CRAZY busy! I just picked up a project I had set aside for over a year and am starting getting quotes and everything from pretty much everywhere so I can start production + launch a crowdfunding campaign. It's a really cool project and I'm really excited about it :)

Besides that, I had to spend today shopping for an evening dress. I hate going shopping for myself, it terrifies me. And I'm not even exaggerating!! Worse is that I still have to go shop for some shoes and some sort of cheap jewellery. The really annoying bit is that I gave away my heels and stuff when we left Copenhagen 3 weeks ago... If only I had known... Anyway, it's for a really good cause: Mr De_maas and I got tickets for the Gala Premiere of The Hobbit which takes place here in Wellington on Monday. I can't wait!!!!!! :D :D :D

Regarding pictures, here's a link to our dropbox album, there aren't that many yet and I haven't updated it for about a week, but again, been super busy. The last few pictures are from my birthday which was about 10 days ago, Mr De_maas organised (without telling me) a visit to the Weta Cave where we also were able to visit a small bit of the studios + a 2-hour swordfighting lesson. I've been really, really wanting to practice swordfighting for a long time and I had an awesome time, can't wait to give it another shot soon.

Now, talking about the how I suck (I'm exaggerating): I haven't been very consistent with meditating and even worse with doing my mobilisation workouts. To be honest, they suck and are horribly boring + my arm is actually doing quite well. The cool thing is the people we're staying with have a home gym with a barbell and some weights which have been calling to me ever since we got here, they're right outside our room and I miss lifting so much I'm going to give in :P

I'll visit everybody's thread a bit later on, shopping took bloody forever (walked about 10K back and forth + actually finding a shop where they sold evening wear) and I have some work to do now :)

Wow!  The Hobbit premiere gala sounds like so much fun!  I hope you have a great time!

I'm sorry that the workouts haven't been going so well.  It probably wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if you grabbed some lighter weights and did a little bit of lifting.  Or maybe you can mix the mobilization work with some barbell work.  Like, for each mobilization exercise you do, you "earn" one barbell exercise.  Plus, squats and deadlifts shouldn't affect your arm that much.
