iatetheyeti vs. the SLUMP

I've come fresh from a successful challenge and yet the holiday blues are running rampant so motivation is running low. So my one goal is simple:

 

  • Get up and do one bodyweight or yoga workout before 10am each morning

 

...otherwise I could well just lie in bed until some stupid time that may be bordering on afternoon. Not good for anything, let alone the already fragile sleep-cycle. So the alarm will be set for some suitable time, the workout will be stuck up on the wall, and it will be done. No matter what mood I wake up, no matter how much the wind and rain outside may depress me, no matter what my house mates think, it will be done.

 

If I start the day well, then hopefully that should lead to having a good day overall.

Yes, yes, yes......starting the day out right sets the WHOLE tone for the day on the whole for me as well. If I don't get up and get those workouts in it is not gonna happen.

Well, today was interesting as far as working out goes... Bit of a mixture of BW and yoga. Up at 6:30am to catch a train, which involved some yoga before leaving and some squats at the train station, much to everyone's amusement. It isn't often you see some loon in a bright purple jacket doing squats with a full rucksack on her back. About two hours and a half hours after that I did some chair dips, push ups, and inverted rows in the bus station. Again, got stared at. Heh, can't say I minded. I kept myself warm while I waited.

 

Unfortunately there was a lot of waiting. The first bus I got on managed to get itself broken by the wind, so we had to wait for another one to come along and pick our cold, sorry selves up. Ended up dozing on and off most of the way, though I was uncomfortably awake when we were going through Glencoe. It was thick with snow, unploughed, and we'd already been past an accident.

 

Anyway. Got back to this ever soggy town just fine, and I've even got an awesome new belay jacket to keep me warm.

 

Tomorrow will just be a yoga day, and we'll work from there I reckon.

Hey there! It's going ok so far. Not going to lie, it's been extremely hard work to force myself out of bed before 10am in the last few days as I've been feeling pretty horrific, but it's been worth it once I've got going.

Did you get sick Yeti? :( Seems like a lot of people have recently. Hope you get to feeling better soon so take good care of yourself!

 

:encouragement: for getting up and getting things going, you're awesome!

 

But get plenty of rest too and maybe by next week you will be in full Yeti Challenge Busting mode! ;)

I wish I'd gotten sick, then it would have been easier to deal with. No, unfortunately this is down to depression. I was kind of expecting it because of the amount of time I've spent alone over the past couple of weeks due to everyone else going to visit family for the holidays and all that, but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with. Hopefully when people start coming back to town my mood will pick up and things will get better. In the mean time, exercise is a healthier distraction than any other I can think of right now.

Depression is a type of sickness and not easily beaten alone.  Hope you feel better soon!

Hey hey Yeti!

 

I think this is also common for winter time in general. Add other factors like the holidays and all and it can be a train wreck waiting to happen.  But, good on you for recognizing it and approaching it with a healthy direction!

 

You, my girl, just came through a situation that would have brought most people I know to their knees and yet you came through it with a fighting spirit.

 

You are one of the strongest and most determined people I know. You will beat this too.  :tyrannosaurus:

 

Besides, was there really any doubt? You are an Assassin! Sounds to me like you have identified a target to be taken down. ;)

 

And to second swampling, if you need help your Brigade has your back! :triumphant:

I guess part of the 'fun' of having had clinical depression for years is that you get to know the warning signs for this sort of thing. Being able to do something about it, however, is a fairly recent thing for me. And after having come through that crap that the last couple of months have thrown at me and still be standing, I don't intend on letting things slip now. Kind of like a knock-on effect I guess, but I'll happily go with it.

Yeah, I hear you on the warning signs.  I've gotten better at telling others what those warning signs are, although I am far from perfect at it.

 

Way to keep going at it despite fighting depression, and here's hoping for a little good luck to supplement your hard work!
