Hey, at first I was worried that I'd missed out on all the fun, glad to see this challenge starting up so soon!

 

This is my first serious, guided, supported attempt at taking hold of my own fitness and carving it out the way I want it to be, not just surrendering to genetics or convenience.

 

Main Quest:
Under 200 Lbs by 30th birthday (12/04/14). My main area of focus is the love handles on my sides. I want them gone.
 
Mini Quests:
a. [DEX 2]             Run 5K (3.11m) race in under 31 Minutes (10'00"/mile or better)
b. [sTR 2] [sTA 3] Do the beginner body weight workout at least 2 times a week (M+Th).
c. [sTA 3]             Go for a run on the weekend (S/S)
d. [CON 4] [sTA 1] Standing Desk only at work, no sitting down (M-F)
 
Life Quest:
Find time to read the backlog of books that has built up (50+ Comics).
 
Starting Stats:
29 year old male.
6'1"
237.2 lbs
Waist 45.5"

Legs 24.5"(L) & 25.5" ®
Biceps 15.75"(L) & 16"®
 
Points System:
Run 5K - 5 points
Body Weight  (Twice per Week) - 2 points if on MTh as scheduled, 1 point if on any other day/unscheduled
Run on weekend - 5 points per run for starting, +1 point for beating personal time/distance record
Standing Desk all day - 1 point per day
Read all unread floppy comic books by end of challenge - 5 points (-1 for every unread book)

A=90/100 points
B=80/100 points
C=70/100 points

D=60/100 points

Thanks Chimeric! I know the Challenge hasn't started yet, but I'm already working on the above.

 

The real test is going to be the end of the second week when I'm going out of town. There's going to be lots of excuses and poor choices made, so I'll really need to stay focused!

Challenge day 1 was a success!

 

Mini Quests:

Did the beginner body weight workout, (on a Monday as planned). +2pts
3 x 20 Squats
3 x 10 Pushups
3 x 20 Lunges
3 x 10 Dumbbell Rows (w/ resistance band)
2 x 15 Sec Planks
1 x 20 Sec Plank **Gotta get angry!**
3 x 30 Jumping Jacks
 
Standing Desk only at work, no sitting down. +1pt.
 
3/3 points for today. 100%.
 
Life Quest:
Read 3/4 of a book over breakfast, sat down after dinner and knocked out another 4 comic books. Trying to work through a stack of old X-Men comics that I picked up from a sidewalk sale a couple months ago.

Felt like I should have worked out yesterday, lots of people here are doing workouts every single day. Trying to pace myself with 3 a week to ensure I can build some consistency seemed like such a good idea at the beginning.

 

Hopefully I'll get some results on Friday when I weigh in. I feel happier and more focused now than last year, but that could still be the novelty effect. Or substituting social interaction for actual progress, and treating them as the same thing.

Do whatever is best for your body! When I started trying to get healthy I only did running three times a week for the first month because that's all my body could handle. After that I started implementing some strength two days a week. I've gradually changed the workouts over time to reflect a changing state of fitness. Now after 5 months I've introduced an extra strength day. Like you said, building consistency is what you want to go for at first.

i think i might be pushing myself a bit much with workouts 6 times a week, do what you feel you can handle.

Try running a 5k and see what your time is to form a baseline. I improved a lot after the first few.

I read my comics at night before going to bed. It's a nice wind down. I also marathon them on the weekend frequently haha

I signed up for and completed the turkey trot back in November. My time was 36'17" and I didn't run the whole time. I did manage to finish 2k (I think) without stopping.

My goal above is to run the whole 5K without stopping. There's not too many races around here that I'm aware of at the moment, but I'll try and jump onto any I can. I'll be happy any way I complete this goal, even if it's on my own on the weekend.

That was my first goal too. I just too it gradually: 3 1:00 rests -> 2 1:00 rests -> 1 1:00 rest -> no rests

Also, don't hesitate to jog a little slower if you want to be more consistent. You can start with no rests and then work up to higher speeds.

Did the beginner body weight workout, (on a Thursday as planned). Pulled off sets of 15 Push-ups (up from 10 last time) +2 pts.
3 x 20 Squats

Beat my time from Monday too! Total of 16'23" (including breaks, pauses, and rests). Better than 17'26" on Monday (which didn't include the rest in between sets)!

3/3 points for today. 100%.

Ran this morning and decided to take a new route, so decided to randomly run around my neighborhood using RunKeeper.
4.28 Kilometers/2.66 Miles (Longest I've tracked with this app) in 27'09" (Longest time spent running this year). My pace was slower than last week, but my last mile was my fastest, so very happy with that. +6 points
 
7/7 points for today. 100%.

Managed to find time to read 26 Comics. This huge stack is shrinking and I'm getting closer to the new books from Christmas. Might make a concession and read some of this week's new releases. Starting to get really excited for X-Force #1 and Magneto #1! Might need to make a workout centered around X-Men powers training.

Wow! Congrats!!! I am just now joining the fun here and have been really enjoying reading everyone's progress. But man! 5.2lb already????? BIG congrats are in order.
