Otter's First Ranger Challenge

Goal #1 Whole 45  - 5 CON

starting Jan.1 running through to end of challenge.

-0.25 for any cheats

 

Goal #2 work out 5 times a week - 2STR, 2DEX, 1STA

I'm hoping to do 2 crossfit classes, 2 yoga workouts and 1 walk/run (weather permitting)

I would like to implement putting $5 away each week I do 5 workouts.  In the end the money will be split between new clothes and my tattoo fund.

 

Goal #3 2 crossfit goats

Goats are things that we aren't good at and or can't do yet - my trainer has asked us each to pick 2 to work on for the month of January - They will be telling us when and what to do, so I'm not putting a grade on this - just going with it.

My 2 goats are pushups and double unders

 

Goal #4 dusting/cleaning  3CHA

dust every week and clean 1 room in my house each week.

You were saying at one point you wanted to do it straight through to May....Could you do 30 days  - have Chinese on the 31 and start againg Feb. 1? Do another 30 days or just do it all month and have the last day of the month a "whatever I want" day (don't like the term "cheat day").

 

I have done a Whole 30 before and did well, then started to be cheap and lazywith my food. So I want to get back into the swing of things and get into a good minset about/with food again.

Yeah, I'm debating going Jan 1st-May 1st (my b-day).  I'm just not sure if not having a cheat day in there somewhere will make me resent it.  The other thought is my cheat day is the last day of every month, so about 30 days.

I'm really liking the idea of doing it the for the month and then having a cheat day on the last day of the month.  I might have to incorporate that.  I really want to do the 45 days though...maybe in the next challenge.

I am impressed with the goals -- I almost jumped out with the Whole30 (or 45), but decided on the less-stringent paleo for now.

I am impressed with the goals -- I almost jumped out with the Whole30 (or 45), but decided on the less-stringent paleo for now.

Erik - jump on board, give in to peer pressure.  There seems to be a bunch of us doing a Whole 30 to start off the year.  I did one back in April and did well, so I decided to challenge myself a little more by doing the 45 days.

 

Starting Weight/Measurements - Taken January 1

207.6lbs

38.6% body fat (this is according to the scale in my crossfit gym - supposed to be accurate - better than anything else I have and shows numbers)

Chest 36"

Waist 40" - at smallest 35"

hips 43.5'

I am bad a dusting.  So I'm hoping that this will make it a habit to be done every week when I do my regular cleaning.   The 1 room each week is more like spring cleaning - doing the walls etc.  I've decided to start in the kitchen as it seems to need the most attention.  As I look at it though, I'm thinking it might need 2 weeks to do.  That goal might need a slight modification.  I'm hoping this will help me prep for the handyman type things that need to be done which might be in my next challenge.

 

I started making my bed every morning a while a go.  I really like the feeling of crawling into a made bed at night and not having to "figure out/fight with" the sheets when I'm tired - that's what keeps me motivated.

 

I'm really glad I started the Whole45 early. This weekend I was terribly exhausted.  It was like I skipped the cranky days and just went into the super tired days of the Whole30.  Its to a point where I feel like I'm getting sick. Anyways I'm hoping I'm not sick and it gets better.  But I was really glad I didn't need to muster the energy to clean a room during all that.

 

The weather does not seen to be cooperating for my walk/runs either.  Blizzard warnings, wind chill making it feel like -20, freezing rain... hoping this gets better also....I don't want to modify my goals, but will if I have to.

I still fight with the sheets every night. Mostly because I roll up the comforter into a ball and then throw it over my head into the corner.

 

As for dusting, a clean sock works awesome. Wear it like a mitten.  If I know I need to dust- I put a sock in front of the tv. It's weird enough that as soon as I'm going to put the tv on, I remember.

I definitely fight with the sheets every night while I'm sleeping - pretty much the same problem.  My ex and I use to have our own sheets (in the same bed) because of it. Which is why I make my bed now, so I can start fresh, not fight with the sheets to get them neat, then fight with them while I sleep (does this make any sense at all)

 

I'm totally gonna steal that - except I'll put in on my book! I read more than I watch tv generally.

What's the schedule for workouts looking like this week?

 

Just coming in to post actually!  I am definitely sick!! This sucks ass...yeah I said it.  I feel like crap and am craving sugar (which I usually crave when I'm sick), but I am still deteremined.

Here's the plan

 I'm hoping to go home have a nap and do some yoga.  Then do some prep work for food.  I'm hoping to do crockpot eggs tomorrow which I can start first thing in the am and have ready for me when I get home.  This should feed me for a couple of days.  I also have some turkey soup made and frozen which I will probably take out, it should help with the cold.

Yoga tomorrow night after Bible study.

I'm hoping I will feel better by Friday so I can go to crossfit Friday evening and Saturday morning for my 2.

Then I just have to fit my walk/run in.  The weather is not playing nice though - they are saying to stay inside cause it's so cold, your skin can freeze in 5 min.  There is a 3mile workout video that I have rented from my library before though, which is basically walking on the spot with knees raises and butt kicks to burn "x" amount of calories and "walk" 3 miles in an hour.  I might submit to that if I have to.

I swear, there's like 10 people that I follow that are sick.  Right after a big feast of junk on xmas.  Coincidence? I think not.

Ture - I was also thinking I was up passed midnight twice last week....probably doesn't help either.  I will get through this though.  The only thing that is really bothering me is my bible study tonight - it's the first one back after the holidays and I'm leading it, so I can't bail :/

Good plan.  Good mix of exercises.  I hope you manage to get out.  I would have a hard time walking in place in my living room for the better part of an hour.  I hope the pictures are pretty.

It's a bunch of girls, so you might find it prettier than I do.   It's not as fun as going out for a run, but it would be a walk/run.  I'm still debating on it.  I did leave myself open to other options.  Maybe I'll just go pick up a work out video and try something new.

 

What's the go with crockpot eggs? I haven't come across those before.

I have to be honest, I haven't had much luck with them.  I did them at Christmas with eggs/potatoe/bacon and yesterday with eggs/ham/brocolli/parsley/green olives.  Both times they came out over done and bland.  However I know I left them in to long yesterday because I was at work and I didn't put in any spices.  The first time I only used a little garlic as there were kids eating it and I wasn't sure what they would like.  I would suggest spicing well (which you know more about than I do) and cooking while you are home to watch it and turning the crockpot off just before you think they are cooked and letting them sit for a bit. (I read in another recipe they are easier to cut/slice if you let them sit for a bit)

Bible study went well, my head stayed in the game for the entire time and it ran pretty smoothly.  I was a little worried/filled with anxiety when the pastor and his wife showed up, but it was nice to have them help keep the conversation going also.  I feel confident about it.

For some reason, I think of scotch eggs.

What are scotch eggs?  I gotta tell ya I'm thinking eggs made with scotch, which doesn't sound that appealing to someone who doesn't drink scotch.

 

Update:

 

I cheated on my Whole30 on Tuesday - I put some ranch dressing on my salad.  I'm somewhat ok with it - hate the wording "cheat" though - it was a decision.  But that decision is much better than the decisions I had been making to go out and buy chips or chocolate.   Other that that I am doing well.  Last night I even wanted a mango...the conversation went like this

Mind:  I want a mango

Body: I'm not hungry   

and that was the end of it.  It's amazing how only a week on the Whole30 and your entire way of thinking can change so much. Before the conversation would have been

Mind: I want chips

Body: No

Mind: I want chips

Body: No, they aren't good for us and make us feel sick

Mind: I want chips

Body: No, think of all the extra calories and we're not hungry

repeat until I went to buy some chips.

 

I've done my 2 yoga workouts this week.   I did 2 Yogamazing Podcasts. Tuesday -yoga for colds and Wednesday -yoga balance flow.  I really liked this one.  I've decided to stop at the library on the way home and get a fun work out video to replace my walk/run to make up my third work out this week.

I also just found out that we now have a yoga class Friday nights after crossfit class - I'm looking forward to this alot -that would techinically make up workouts 4 and 5.  AND it's supposed to go up to like 8 Celcius on Saturday so I might just get a walk/run in anyways - we shall see how I feel.

I'm still sick, but I actually didn't argue with myself about getting out of bed this morning, so thats a good sign.
