drunkensnake
Hello again! This is my second challenge in my continuing (or it may seem never-ending) quest to be shaped less like a potato. As a Cube (software developer for non shodowrunny people) I am sedentary at work, and since I love to code, and do it at home (working on a website and a videogame, and other projects that seem interesting, as well as gaming) I am largely sedentary there as well so I spread, talk about the battle of the bulge, but..to business! MAIN QUEST Get under 200 pounds and following that, I'd like to actually put on some muscle and look better just in general (sure my wife would appreciate this) SUPPORTING QUESTS - Strength train 3x a week, I actually ran across this heavily modified version of the 300 challenge for more....n00b1s# exercisers like myself, I can post if anyone is interested Hit 3 main lifts 3x a week, can be done with bodyweight at home, push pull and leg, i.e. b/w rows pushups b/w squats,(STR-5)- Cardio training 3x 2x a week alternate with strength training but aim for 3 if I hit 3 more often than not...I may buy myself the light up Iron Man Arc reactor shirt because it is awesome, HIIT seems way better to me, I have a terrible attention span and get bored running or biking, plus a good HIIT session is only 10-30 min MAX yay for efficiency!! (END-3 DEX-2 [since it will improve sprint ability])-Consciously continue improving my diet try to limit myself to 2 starches a day MAX (CON - 3) LIFE QUEST Get my website up! I have the framework I want sketched out, I just need to code it up and deploy it, I'm paying for hosting I should use it (CHA - 2)Get my website started! Teros
just enjoy the doughnut.... Hey, vanity is important too. As long as you're working towards the best version of yourself. What was your workout previous to the start of the challenge? If you were working out 0-1 times a week and now you're attempting 6 times a week, your body will not be able to handle it after about 2 weeks. Trust me, I've seen 100 threads where this happens and it's happened to myself. It's better off to tackle diet mostly, and do slow incremental exercise changes. If you were working out 4+ times a week previous to this challenge, then 6x a week is doable. If less, I'd strongly advise toning it down a bit. I personally do a sledgehammer workout 2-3 times a week and that's been enough to drop 4 pants sizes in the past few months. Diet is 80% of the battle. Exercise is 20%. Link to comment
sylph
In on this. HIIT can be brutally efficient if you do it right. You can also burn yourself out right quick if you aren't careful. It's fun to find the right balance. And I imagine you're right that Zombies Run wouldn't be too good for that style of training... you can't hear the zombie horde if you're using most of your attention to breathe! I cook my food too. And, I have a teenage daughter. In family situation, you need a compromise. Worst thing you can do to your family is to push anything negative about food.Promoting balance in positive fashion is the way to go, or else your kid may suffer food issue. It's a very touch subject, esp. for girls. If kids are healthy, I don't think you need to change much.OTOH, ADHD and many of so called recent "epidemic" in younger children are often traced to too much carbs, like sugar frosted cereals for breakfast, chips, crackers for snack, etc.So, feed bacon and eggs with home fries along with some bread with real butter for breakfast. It's work. But, that's what every family did one or two generations ago, when ADHD and child obesity wasn't known. You are the role model of healthy eating. Making healthy food available constantly is your mission. In my case, it's moving very slowly but you cannot expect overnight success. OTOH, like my daughter's case, after I lost 30lbs, she is kind of noticing what I eat. That's good enough for me right now. 1 Racquet wielding rock gnome: Ranger - L6 - STR: 13, DEX: 8, STA: 13.5, CON: 12, WIS: 14, CHA: 11 Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. drunkensnake
So the mini-quest is to re-evaluate and modify a goal, I don't really want to do my fitness goals because I had no problems with them in the last challenge (that would be kinda wussing out since they are *basically* the same huh?) I wanted to think about my dietary goal, and maybe try to find a way to get more stick to-it-iveness in there, but then I saw my life goal and I realized 2 things:1.) this is the first time I'm doing anything substantial with the the jquery libraryand2.) everything else I do is in C++ or C#, and I'm teaching myself php as I go coding this website.Once I thought about this I realized that the old engineers problem crops up, I am probably greatly overestimating my ability to pick up and quickly apply these techniques and technologies to a productive work-flow, especially a custom website with a dev diary, game demos (my own naturally b/c Unity is the shit), and 2 blogs. As such I am scaling back my goal for this particular little venture, rather than go for a full site launch, I want to get my main page up, one blog started and at least one post in my dev diary about learning Unity...I think that is a good scale back Level 5 Tiefling Ranger/Assassin Hybrid|STR:15 | DEX:5 | STA:9 | CON:6 | WIS:6 | CHA:4 |My Current ChallengeChallenges: First | Second |Third | Fourth | Fifth | SixthFacebook Anyone?EMAIL!
