00000
Oh wow, another one.My BS is in Philosophy. What do you want to do when the schooling is all said and done? My eventual goal is to teach, but I need to get my ducks in a row to go to grad school (which is going to take a while). What area do you study in particular? Well, since where I live, a master's degree is the highest you can get, schooling kind of *is* all said and done. Like I said, I didn't choose this field to switch jobs. I like my job, and the only option to follow up on the degree would be if I were to apply for a fellowship (there is no philosophy in high school where I live, so no option to teach there, besides my mom used to be a teacher and turned me off on the whole idea) and kept working for the university, but those are scarce (little money for social sciences), which means at most 3-4 students who graduate each year stand a chance at getting one (the top 3-4 students, obviously). My grades were good enough, but the pressure of finishing my thesis alone near put me over the edge, let alone having to write a doctorate knowing that it means your livelihood and job security, while being up against the top minds of your peers (the 3-4 of you fighting to be kept on after the 3-5 years it takes you to finish the initial contract). That would have done me in, lol. I actually like that I'm replaceable at the place I work now, and even though multinational corporations aren't my favourite thing, I am a big fan of job security. I also like to have hobbies and a social life, which I would have to give up to be able to perform at this level. I wrote my thesis on how the different metaphysical theories on causation and their nuances impact the notion of mental causation and some of the paradoxes it brings (showing how some of these paradoxes disappear when one adopts a different causation concept), and it was awesome and challenging and exciting. I've also been on SSRI's for the entire duration I've been at my current job (5 years, 4 of which I spent getting the degree) and could never go anywhere or do anything besides work or study. I always hoped that when I was done with school I would be able to use the time that freed up to invest in my health, both mental and physical. I quit the meds in september, quit smoking, and started cooking 100% of my own food. This is my project now, that I'm going for. tl:dr: done with school, working on super powers now Link to comment
00000
You ever use skyrim mods through skyrim nexus? I play it on our PS3. Though I've looked at mods and found some droolworthy (I'd love a mod that would make eating and sleeping a necessity, as it would add so much to the whole immersion thing), as I understand it, I would have to "jailbreak" the PS3 to be able to use them, and that looks like something that might actually break it... I often start over (like with Skyrim) at the halfway point just because I don't want it to end. The last game I did finish was deus x: human revolution. That was pretty sweet, too. I've been avoiding Assasin's Creed, even though we have it, because I dislike climbing on things, but may get around to it in the future.I also spent a LOT of hours playing CIV4 and (here's my confession!) The Sims (bought all EP's since The Sims 1). Also because I know on the console, there are no commands, which means if you glitch out and get stuck in a hunk of mountain you're screwed and lose X hours on xbox/ps3. On the pc, just ~command, and then you're all set. The Sims (bought all EP's since The Sims 1). I love architecture and spend most of my time building things Yeah, I love building moreso than actually playing. I mean, I did kill off about 80 people and there's all sorts of drama I have going on in the game, but when I get the itch... I just want to make a cool house. It's a shame there aren't more tools for it. I just feel like there's some sort of dimension that can't be tweaked. As for the degree; there seems to be a lot of competition and not enough payoff for lots of jobs. It's a damn shame. You'd think that the more people there are, the more demand for....everything. But that doesn't seem the case. I hope going from psych to social work will open up a lot of options for jobs. And if I can't get very far, I'm going to get a nutrition degree and be a therapist; or get into the school system. Link to comment

Nothing quite as... specific. Oh we have to be specific since a thesis that runs more than 100 pages is frowned upon. Better to go deep into something small then to be vague about something you can't cover. That was just the thesis though. Lots of other things to get excited about. My favourite class was a master class on Foucault. That one really made me go As for the degree; there seems to be a lot of competition and not enough payoff for lots of jobs. It's a damn shame. That it sure is. And I have finally had to accept that I just don't do well under pressure. Even though I might have the capacity to do certain jobs (like they've been asking me for their management trainee thing at work for ages), there's absolutely no use in me trying that if when the shit hits the fan I'm under a desk somewhere sobbing like a baby My wife goes NUTS on the Sims and will play for days at a time Now that is silly. It's so ironic that the US (assuming you are from the US) is the only place where they still respect continental icons like Heidegger. Their school of thought can be summarized by the definition of philosophy their "leader" offers to first graders: "Philosophy studies problems for which science hasn't found the answer... yet" Only people who finished their doctorate can be TA's where I live. They spend their time trying to publish more A level articles than the other 3-4 who started around the same time they did, and have to do all the 'dirty work' while hoping to be the one who someday gets called to be a professor. A tough life... I would go through phases with the SIMS. Sometimes I would be playing for days and having all sorts of kids and killing off people or making vampires and witches. Then all of a sudden, I would get bored and wonder, "Why am I watching my sim work out and be bored when I could just work out?" Next Friday, it is going to be all ABS! I'm gonna DIE!!!!! OMG --- I'm going out tonight, not a big deal. I'm going to a bar where not only will an ex-boyfriend whom I still totally love will probably be, but the same bar where my almost rapist will probably be at too!!! I am SOOOOOO freaking out. BUT I know that I have to face both of the and show them that they don't have any power over me or my ability to have fun anymore in order to heal. I just hope I can get through the evening without totally freaking out and actually have fun while I am there. 3 Tehya Here is myfitnesspal account Here is my battle log Here is my character Link to comment
