Second Challenge - Silkie's Last Michigan Winter

This is my last semester of school EVER. After this graduation this May, and the bar exam in July, I will begin my career as a patent attorney. I want to be ready for my busy career by establishing healthy lifestyle habits that will persist through my career and maintain my well being despite work demands.

Goal #1: Cook Paleo Dinners / Pack Paleo Lunches (Con + 3) - I have class Monday - Thursday this semester. If I can get in the habit of cooking dinner and using the leftovers for packed lunches, I will not have the excuse of eating unhealthily at school/work. Maximum days will be 24. I will allow myself to earn back days for weekend days I am able to stay completely paleo. I hope to share my culinary endeavors through photography!

A = 21+ Days B = 18+ Days C = 15+ Days D = 12+ Days

Goal #2: Interval Training (Sta + 3) - I want to do interval training 3x a week, as per the Nerd Fitness Guide. Maximum days will be 18. I do Tae Kwon Do for my slower intervals and jump rope for my faster intervals.

A = 16+ Days B = 14+ Days C = 12+ Days D = 10+ Days
 

Goal #3: Strength Training (Str + 3) - I want to do strength training 3x a week (off days from interval training). Maximum days will be 18. I am currently doing the Level 2 Workout from the Rebel Fitness Guide with 30lb dumbbells. I want to get to 40+ lb dumbbells and Level 3 by the end of this challenge.

 

A = 16+ Days B = 14+ Days C = 12+ Days D = 10+ Days

 

Goal #4: Flexibility Training (Dex + 3) - I want to be able to do perfect splits like I used to back when I was a gymnast. I made a lot of progress last challenge and I think I can go all the way this time.
 

A = Perfect Split B = 1 inch from floor C = 2 inches from floor D = 3 inches from floor

Life Goal: Limit Drinking (Wis + 3) - I want to limit drinking in three ways. I want to limit it to Thurs-Saturday; of that range I only want to drink two of those days; of those two days I want to limit the quantity I drink to half a bottle of wine or 3 mixed drinks. The rules are as follows: I get 6 points, one for each week. I earn a point if I do not drink at all for a week. If I exceed the quantity limit on the first day, I use up my second day. If I exceed the quantity limit on my second day, I lose a point. If I drink a third day or non-permitted day, I lose a point.

A = 6 Points B = 5 Points C = 4 Points D = 3 Points

They sound like pretty awesome goals :)

 

And woooo for last semester! I'm in the same boat and in July I shall begin my preregistration year as a newly qualified pharmacist!

 

Looking forward to see what paleo recipes/meals you come up with, I may steal one if it looks good :D

I thought it was worth mentioning since it is relevant to the title of this challenge: I just got my first snow day!!! Thanks everyone for your comments, I'll come follow you guys back :)

Good luck, Silkie! Fantastic goals :) I share your sentiment about wanting to establish really healthy habits in this last semester of school (I'm a senior at Drake University) before I dive into an extremely demanding career (campaign politics), one that is actually the second least healthy profession. I look forward to seeing you kick this challenge's ass! I definitely subbed ;)

Coming from Alaska i'd normally scoff at your snow days...but after checking the weather, it snowed up to 18" in some places in Michigan. That's actually pretty solid snow right there, so I say good on you and enjoy your snow!

Midweek report, Paleo meals have gone off without a hitch 4/4. I've also not touched alcohol and begun my first set of permissible drinking days!

2/3 Strength and Interval Training done. I've got 3 days til next week and only two more workouts to do. It'll work fine :)

I've stretched each day after my workouts. At first I was really tight because the workouts were making me sore, but that was just post-vacation tenderness. By the end of this week I was really able to push my stretches. At about 4 inches from the perfect split point. An inch a week and I'll be in the A range!

I've also decided to start doing the level 3 workouts from the Nerd Fitness Guide as I am no longer very challenged by Level 2. Tried level 3 Interval training today and it went quite well. I did learn, however, toe shoes catch the jump rope. :(

Nonetheless, I'll be back Monday to report on the full week's outcome.

Oooh last semester, congrats!  I'm in my 2L year and am quite ready to be done. It's really smart of you to limit the drinking before graduation, the profession's so prone to abuses.  Good luck with everything you've got great goals.

Week 1 Summary: Perfection!!

4/4 Paleo Dinner/Lunches (though I did wake up my roomie chopping vegetables at 1am last night to throw in the slow cooker for my lunch);

 

3/3 Strength Training Days;

 

3/3 Interval Training Days (though the jump rope seems to annoy my downstairs neighbor, ironically, since they play extremely loud music with relative frequency whereas I only jump rope rope for 20 minutes);

 

Flexibility every day of exercise.

I even went a week without drinking, thus scoring a point for the life quest! This gives me a point to waste on a cheat day if I so choose! Probably for use on a date with the girlfriend :)

Let's see if I can keep it up without bothering too many people.
