Vella's Spider-Skills Improve

Vella

Recommended Posts

After her last challenge, Vella was feeling fairly proud of herself.  She had grown leaner, stronger.

But she knew that was not enough.  If she were called upon to defend a city, she would be found woefully inadequate.

And so, a new challenge arriving, Vella gathered her thoughts and devised new goals, those that would keep her moving forward in the new year, towards a body and skill set that any radioactive spider would be proud to bite.

Main Goals:

1: Parkour.  Last challenge, this goal was one of Vella's weak areas.  She needed something more specific, something to work towards.  So, she divided one large goal into smaller sub-goals.  She will, by the end of the challenge:

  1. Be able to roll from standing;
  2. Increase both the length of hder jumps and her stability on landing;
  3. Increase the height she is able to jump to;
  4. Work on improving her balance.

She will accomplish this by practicing at least once a week.

Attributes: +3 Dex, +2 Sta (self-explanatory)

A - Complete training every week, all improvements exceeding expectations

B - Complete training every week, some improvements made OR large improvements, but missed 2 or more training sessions

C - Missed 2 or more training sessions, and baseline improvements made

Fail - Missed more than 4 sessions AND/OR no or very few improvements made

2: Conquering the Pull-Up.  Vella has been improving at this since she began the last challenge, and she thinks it's about time she incentivised herself.  She is getting closer to 45 degrees inverted rows.  So, by the end of the challenge, she wants to be able to do a single pull-up.

Attributes: +3 Str (self-explanatory)

A - Multiple Pull-ups

B - Single Pull-up

C - Multiple sets of negatives

Fail - Only one set of negatives, or still on inverted rows.

3: Sleep.  Vella has always been known for her inability to hold to a normal sleeping pattern.  She should really get better at this, since it has been known to affect her schooling.  Therefore, she will go to bed at or by midnight every night.

Attributes: +3 Con, +1 Wis (requires planning, hopefully increases ability to withstand daily happenings)

A - 40 days or more

B - 36-40 days

C - 33-36 days

Fail - Less than 34 days

Life Goal:

Harp Practice.  Vella decided to take up the harp a little while back, but she's notoriously bad at practicing.  Now she has returned to my home, and thus has her harp again, she shall practice more.  Specifically, once a day for minimum 15 minutes, but preferably 30 mins

Attributes: +3 Wis, +1 Cha (Wisdom for the extra skills, Charisma for the aid in performances)

A - 40 + days, 35+ for 30 minutes

B - 36-40 days, 30+ for 30 minutes

C - 32-36 days, 30+ for 30 minutes

Fail - Less than 32 days, less than 30 days for 30 minutes.

Let the training begin!

You have great goals! Most things I want to learn too (but hey, you can't put EVERYTHING into one challenge ;) ) so I'm definitely rooting for you! Go get those parkour skills and pullups! And sleeping, well that's one thing I don't need to learn like you. I'm great at sleeping and I always keep to my pattern. Sleeping is great *cheers for sleeping*

I really, really had to work to narrow my life goal down to one - I had so much trouble coming up with quantifiable fitness goals, but life goals just keep coming :P  That probably says a lot about me ...

I've had a dubious relationship with sleep since I was born (not even kidding - ask my parents about 2am beach trips and 4am bike rides ...), only now I have actual responsibilities, it's migrated into the famous before sleep = can't I stay up a little longer? After sleep = Can't I just sleep for five more minutes?

However, jetlag has messed up my sleeping pattern to the point where I'm on normal people time (how's that for a statement?), so I'm going to capitalise on this while I have it :P

Woo! Let's do this!

*high five*  Yeah!

Haha well, it's great that you want to work on normalising sleep. Think it will be convenient for random life stuff, but will also give you more energy! Writing out the goals just the way you want them is difficult, it's why I still haven't posted my challenge yet. Still tweaking and trying to surpress the BUT I COULD ALSO DO THIS no no I already decided what it's going to be for this challenge. Will have to just log my other ideas for a different one!

Vella! I'm here!

Did I mention I love your parkour goal? I really  wish I had the build for something like that, but my previous experiences with running and jumping over things have ended only in scars! Still maybe one day!

Also, sleep is super important to health. Good luck friend!

****This is a semi-automated message from your Robot guild leader.****

Hello and welcome to the assassin guild! I am Nuala and I'm one of your guild leader. First of all, I want to thank you for having chosen our guild as your first official one, it makes us really happy and proud. I really hope you will enjoy being with us and that you will find here all the support you need.

What you need to know.

Whatever you do, remember that your challenge is your priority. Mini-challenges, guild activities, PVP are not mandatory. They are here for you to have fun, discover new exercises, have some friendly competitions but they must not hinder your progresses. If a mini-challenge seems too overwhelming for you, just don't do it.

Being here with us will give you access to many other not mandatory activities, aka:

Creative mini-challenge. The creative mini-challenge will start on Monday, January 6 and will last the whole challenge (aka 6 weeks). As the name may suggest, you will be asked to do some creative media according to a theme.

Participation in creative mini-challenges usually grant you +1 CHA if you decide to use the stat system.

Mini-challenges: Every other Mondays (usually), a new mini-challenge will be published. These one lasts one week and will ask you to do some special exercises. Each mini-challenge can reward you some stat points after completions. More information will be displayed in the mini-challenges threads!

PVP. PVP are competitions started by other members of the rebellion. If you enjoy measuring yourself to other, they may be the right thing for you. So, don't forget to check the PVP forum to find or even make your own PVP! Remember to read the rules though  :)

What I expect from you!

Consistency, awesomeness and regular updates. One update at the end of the challenge won't do, we want to be able to see you are still here with us. One Update a week is a minimum. More would be even better  :)

Don't stay by yourself. If you want people to follow your thread and support you, you may have to do the same. You will probably find many people who share the same goals as you, go visit their thread, cheer on them and they will probably do the same.

Make sure you subscribe to the announcement thread:

http://rebellion.ner...ents-subscribe/

And if you don't want to subscribe, make at least sure you read it once a week. It is usually updated on Monday/Tuesday to present the new mini-challenge and Assassin most wanted list.

Don't stay by yourself bis! The assassin's den is open to all, you have funny gifs to share, a story to tell, needs some advices or just want a place to chat? The Assassin's den is the place to go (also, we have parkour corgis, ninja cats and killer sloth)!

http://rebellion.ner...n-general-chat/

What else?

If you have any problems, questions or suggestions for the guild, feel free to send your guild leaders a PM. Also, we are still looking for journalists to work on the weekly most wanted list. The job is quite simple albeit a bit time consuming. PM for more details.

Sorry for the wall of text! I wish you luck for this challenge!  :D

Yay, Vella is an official assassin now! Funny that jet-lag gives you a normal schedule. My son has always been an insomniac too, but luckily he never wandered .Luckily, for the most part, he was content to stay in his room and listen to CD's or read.

Yay!  The thread doesn't start properly til Alex arrives!

Thanks ^.^  I kind of flubbed last time, so here's hoping this one goes more smoothly.

Yeah, sleep is one of those things I've been telling myself I'll sort out one day ... I'll sort it out one day ... I'm not a real adult yet, I don't need to worry yet...

No worries at all!  It's great to be with the Assassins, and I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time here with you guys :D

I've checked out and sub'd the threads, and if this is anything like last challenge, I'll be on here pretty frequently!

YAY! Let the 60s spiderman memes commence!

:D  Great to be here!  Yeah, for a long time I was content to just sit in bed and read or listen to music before I slept, but then I got old enough to discover the Internet, and also one-more-chapter syndrome, and, well, things spiralled downhill from there :P

Woohoo, a pull-up goal! - that's a tough one, but it's awesome when you get there. Good luck!

Super pumped to get this one done!  Don't know if I've bitten off more than I can chew, but I suppose we'll find out, won't we?

Great goals, Vella! I too suffer from one-more-chapter syndrome, so I'll be rooting for you to beat it and get your sleep patterns sorted out. That's definitely a challenge in itself.

Go forth and rock! *\o/*

We'll see how we go.  I just realised I have three functions in a row this weekend (it's getting close to my birthday and all), so here's hoping I don't throw myself off then!

DAY 1:

Went for a walk, barefoot, to try and get the technique up for parkour.  It's not a training session, but I'll put credit towards the goal for it.

Also rows practice - I'm at about 45 degrees for four sets - 4, 5, 5, 4.  Better than last time (4, 4, 3, 2)!  But still needs work.

I'll post X/42 day stats later tonight, after harp practice.

So do your feet hurt after walking barefoot? Or did you walk on grass mainly?

Walking on pavement, and good golly gosh do my feet hurt today.  Partially blisters, partially my feet are not used to the motion, so the calves are feeling it today.

Hehehe.

Also yay pull-ups!

:D  And yeah, ever since I started reading Nerd Fitness, I've been aiming for the pull-up...

So, as of now:

Harp: 2/42

Sleep 1/42

But only because I haven't been to sleep tonight, and can't vouch for my poor decisions later tonight, caused by Mass Effect.

Wow...Parkour is like awesome.  I like your challenges, you have specific goals with specific measurements...all keys to success...I am subbed and will nag you on a regular basis ;)

Yes, please with the nagging.  I occasionally need it to get off my lazy butt.

Basically I'm hoping Parkour will be my reason to do cardio - I dislike just running, so running with interesting bits in might be a good incentive :P

You're just lucky I'm interstate and can't be indignant at you.

...actually, I'm probably lucky you're interstate and weren't there to laugh at the time

Report for the day:

Walked around the city to go shoe shopping.  Had shoes on at the time - not sure I trust city streets, and they tend to look askance at you in shoe stores for getting feet as dirty as mine would have been on their nice, clean shoes.  Still, exercise is exercise.

Harp practice: 3/42

Sleep: 2/42

No pull-up training today; planned for tomorrow, though
