How was your weekend?

Hey Matt!

Emotional-wise:

It went okay. We told our nephew on Saturday (K's sister's boy who we brought up since he was 12, who is now 27, holy crap!). We spent the night at his place and did a double feature movie night. He did okay with it. He may call later, to either or both of us, and worry on it a bit, but he should be fine.

I told my parents yesterday. My mom only asked me 5 times if there were any chance of getting back together! But they were both good about it and I told them K wants dibs on them as parents still.

Health-wise:

I had a major talk with myself on the way home from my parent's house. I really emphasized to myself that the changes we've been making are working and will continue to make me/us feel better. So junk food is not the answer. I thanked all the parts of myself that held me together during the tragic periods in my life. I let them know that they could rest now and have fun. I got this now. I'm am centered and balanced more often than not. I am certainly on the upswing of the PTSD and Cancer crap. I want to reach out into the world in order to give and receive.

Exercise-wise:

Meh. I did 5 modified push-ups as a challenge against my nephew, but he punked-out of the challenge! lol He would likely have kicked my ass! He's in the flooring business.

I did a bunch of posture adjustment reminders during the weekend. That was awesome. No real walks or hiking though. And no focused exercise moments.

Overall, I feel pretty good with all the changes. I'll just have to keep my eyes, ears, and heart open to see what comes next.

Thanks for checking in, hope you are well.

Cheers

Muscle Care:

Forgot to use my Run-Keeper app for the walk home, damn it. I know it's 1 1/2 miles, but I didn't time myself. I had a medium heavy pack on (I had my desktop-replacement laptop in it as well as a few groceries). There's one major incline and the rest is flat. There wasn't much in the way of ice on the sidewalks which was better than the last time I did this walk. Anyways, I broke a sweat so that's good.

I am also starting to use my TEMS unit again to help relax my muscles (it's on now as I type).

Digestion Care:

And a mere hour later, I made TACOS! Yes, you heard it hear first folks. Teri has broken the barrier (not the sound one, silly) between her and the postponement of cooking. I said to myself, "I'll just grab something quick and cook the tacos tomorrow." Then I said, "Wait! The burger won't last until tomorrow and I've been looking forward to the tasty dinner for days now."So go cook!" And I did! WOOT

The list of outlawed foods is getting larger and I'm still okay with it.

Not eating: packaged cookies and candy, bagels, bologna, jam, and soda. Peanut butter is going back on as soon as I'm finished with this container.

No longer bringing home: desserts or candy, including baked cookies!

Now limiting out-to-eat times: Coffee Corner (beef meal with great veggies) is once per week max, any fast food joint is once per month max, Delish Candy Store (dark chocolate coconut clusters only) is once per week max (no more than 5).

Skin Care

Going strong, almost routine like! Gentler washing, lotioning often (hands, elbows, and feet mostly), cleaning glasses more often to keep dirt and grime away from my face and eyes.

New Things

See above! lol

Whatever week this is, I'm loving it!

Awesomess ensues! You have really shown not only basic progress on the goals but internalizing the new outlook and perspective. If you keep it up beyond this challenge, I predict you won't be tempted to go back.

And Hooray for the cooking! So totally proud of you!

lol Yea, I don't want to go back on anything I'm incorporating. I'm done doing temporary goals. I want to see progress over the months, not a list of things I've tried.

Lunch - Wednesday

believe it or not I had leftovers.

shredded chicken, Boston baked beans, cool ranch Doritos, 1 slice of Cabot american cheese, apple cider, and a glass of water.

I think I'll give myself 1/2 a point for this since it's still aiming at caring for myself (digestion and finances).

What an awesome week and fantastic challenge you are having. Going from strength to strength.

I love me an app and wondered if the Lift App would be a good way for you to record your days without take away or junk food? So far this year I have clocked no drive thru food for 29 days and had no soft drinks on 18 days (non-consecutive). I like seeing the numbers creep up and am not shattered if i have a day where I don't get to tick it off.

Sounds like a great app! I think I might use it for days when my calories are less than the burn. Or days when I *don't* spend money.

I will definitely get that, thanks. I like tracking on the bigger scale of six months or a year or even two. Helps me stay calmed when I think I've screed up.

Thanks Man

Seems great. Mmmm....tacos.

They were okay. I would add sour cream (as I forgot to get some) and use less refried beans (maybe blacks instead) because they don't agree with my digestion too well. I'd take a picture, but I ate them all. hehehe

I totally approve this and thinks it great you have picked sustainable yet challenging goals for yourself.  Don't disregard that list of things you tried though.  They have helped to get you where you are.  I used to walk around the block, then did 3k, then 5k and do some yoga and think that was a great workout - now its an easy day for me - but if I hadn't TRIED that to begin with I would still be sitting on the couch eating chips every night.

Thx Otter!

I like the lists, don't get me wrong. I wouldn't be here otherwise. I also want to be able to see progress up particular hills; like running and cooking for myself regularly.

Thank you so much for checking in on me. You always give me great words to think on and that help me remember my journey.
