Becoming Batgirl

Batgirl

Recommended Posts

This is my third challenge.  I broke my finger during the last challenge (like really broke it, like requiring two surgeries broke it) so my workout goals will be a little different this time.  As of this morning, I have official clearance from my doctor to lift up to 10 pounds so that's what I'm gonna do.  I still can't lift big girl weights but I've got some great aerobic weight training videos I can use with dumbells and a little of something is better than a lot of nothing.  Doc also says I won't need physical therapy so long as I make sure to exercise my finger every day so along with my regular workouts, I'm going to be getting some piano practice every day.  I almost never play (my piano is so dusty) and I can't think of a better hand exercise so it's a great excuse.  With the piano playing, sewing and the typing I have to do all day at work, my finger should be all bendy again in no time!  In other news, my husband and I decided to make a big fitness goal of hiking rim-to-rim in the Grand Canyon.  It's a long hike with a lot of up so I'm going to be doing some hiking for this challenge.  I'd like to do one long hike every weekend but that might not be doable because of life so I'm going to shoot for every other week.

Main Quest:

Lose 64 pounds.  Starting weight is 203 and goal weight is 139.  Also become Batgirl.  This quest has no time limit.

Side Quest #1: Exercise like a maniac!!!

The goal is to work out 6 days per week with 3 days of cardio and 3 days of weights.  For cardio I'm going to be doing step aerobics videos and hiking (shooting for 3 hikes during the 6 weeks).  For weights I'm going to be doing aerobic weight training videos until I get the all-clear from the doctor to lift heavier.  I'll be grading myself for each week and taking the average at the end. (STR 2, STA 2)

   A. 6 workouts

   B. 5

   C. 4

   D. 2-3

   F. <=1

Side Quest #2: Finger Therapy

In order to exercise my finger and get it all bendy again, I'm going to practice the piano for 20 minutes per day at least 6 days per week.  I'll be grading myself each week and taking the average at the end. (DEX 3)

   A. 6 days

   B. 5

   C. 4

   D. 2-3

   F. <=1

Side Quest #3: Diet

Going vegan went really well last challenge.  I'm convinced that's what kept me losing weight even when I wasn't able to work out so I'm repeating it this time.  On days when I go on a long hike, I'm allowed one cheat meal (can include french fries or put me over my 1800 calorie limit or both).  I'm still breaking it up into 4 goals (CON 3, WIS 2)

1. Eat 1800 calories or less per day.  In order to keep track, I need to maintain my diet log (myfitnesspal)

2. All the way vegan.  I've been toying with it forever and the healthiest I've ever been was when I was vegan.  It's time to do it for real.

3. NO FRENCH FRIES! Seriously my favorite food but complete garbage nutrition-wise.  I had some after the last challenge ended and I'm ready to go another 6 weeks.

4. Drink more water! I'm setting a goal of 64 ounces a day, not counting whatever water I drink during my workout.

I'll be grading myself for each day and taking the average at the end.

    A. All 4 goals met

    B. 3 goals

    C. 2 goals

    D. 1 goal

    F. 0 goals

Life Quest: Sewing

This time I'm making my sewing goals way less ambitious.  All I want to do is get my batgirl costume done.  If I finish early, I'll add something else.  I'd like to get my husband's Imperial Officer uniform done but he's lost 35 pounds since I started and if it's way too big, I'm just going to order one from cosplaysky rather than start over.  I think for grading I'll give myself a C if I finish my Batgirl costume and bonus points if I do more.  (CHA 2, DEX 1)

   A. Batgirl + 2 other projects

   B. Batgirl + 1 other project

   C. Batgirl complete

   D. Batgirl started but not complete

   F. I was a lazy slacker

Motivation: I want to be fit and healthy and be a good example for my family.  Also I want to rock a Batgirl costume at San Diego Comic Con next year.

Looks like you have some great goals set!

I feel like maybe next challenge I want to add a sewing life quest for myself! I just got a new sewing machine for Christmas and haven't even tried it yet.  I'm currently trying to get my craft room together (yup, I have a craft room, good thing this is Nerd Fitness :P) and once I have a solid desk to sew on it *should* be much easier to use often!

You are a mad woman and I love it.

Hiking the Grand Canyon sounds freakin' awesome.

Good luck, as always :)

We hiked like 1.5 miles into the grand canyon once.  It was AMAZING!!!  But walking out was killer.  I conveniently had bronchitis, sinusitis and an ear infection at the time.  I was coughing so much I was worried the rangers would try to rescue me.

I don't count the water I drink during my workout (something like 32 oz) so I'm really drinking more.  Much more than that and I feel like I have to pee constantly so I'm sticking with it.

Chalk up one more follower!  I admired your water drinking goal from last challenge so I think I am going to steal incorporate that into my goals.

Best of luck with the piano playing.  My mom plays, but she is super self conscious about it so we rarely get to hear her.

Thank you for this. It's given me the great idea to find and learn the guitar tab!

How is it that I've only just now discovered the deliciousness that is Justin's organic dark chocolate peanut butter cups? *drool*

That hike looks amazing.  I live in Saskatchewan Canada. It's -32F today (and then add to that the windchill factor....).  I want to crawl back into bed and hibernate. lol
