Challenge mission: Update!

On new year's eve my BF told me that 2013 was a good year, a  new job. Some climbing achievements, travels. Of course it was a little darkened by his grand father loss, but still he was pretty satisfied. I just nodded when he said that, but internally I was disagreeing strongly. In 2013 I lost my job, couldn't really set up on a new one, have no great fitness achievements and succumbed to procrastination and depression again. Right now, I feel like my body hates me, my left knee hurts quite regularly, I'm not even sure I can touch my toes anymore, my left sciatic nerve also remind me of its existence and so on. So, this year, I want to be able to say that I had a nice, un-hurtful  and productive year!

Work!

Because useless robots are frown upon, it's time for me to step up in being useful. I've been making bento for almost one year now and even if I didn't want to, it's starting to get bigger. I have now 2 daily clients + BF, one non daily, and will meet a new potential client on Sunday. So, let's make it my real official job, as people are more willing to may for food than having their website done! Of course it will include a lot of paperwork, a lot of people to contact, sponsors to find, tests to pass, French bureaucracy to fight and many other bothering stuff. My goal is to be fully operational before 6 month. Step one will be: determine what I need to do/ who I need to contact.

Overclocking

This one is easy. Find a warm-up routine and do it as often as necessary. In the morning before working on my bento making, for example. Or after some computer time to reset my body.

Focused flexibility: the return of the come back of

I haven't worked on my flexibility for a while and my body feels really rusty. I need to come back on the focused flexibility program and follow it. What I didn't managed to achieve last time.

Week 1: [#######]

Week 2: [#######]

Week 3: [###]

Week 4: [###]

Week 5: [###]

Week 6: [###]

Life goal: Restrict computer time!

Sitting in front of my computer is awfully bad for me. My shoulder and neck are stiff, my back hurts, after a while I can't even walk properly because my left knee hurts and my feet are swollen. Also my wrists and hands are suffering a lot from the keyboard and that hinder my violin progression and probably even my climbing. So, computer is bad. For this challenge I'll try to restrict my computer time to 4 hours a day aka half of my usual time. Because daily restriction is not really smart to do, it means I'll restrict effectively my computer time to 28 hours a week.

Week #1:

8%
8%

Using cellphone is, on the other hand, tolerated. Because it's such a pain to use that I usually give up on using it quite quickly anyway.

Of course, I haven't given up on climbing and am still going to the bouldering gym 3 times a week. Also bento delivery allows me to walk from 3 to 5 km a day and that's quite a good thing.

Fund? I meant Find. Just to clarify, none of my daughter's pocket money will be used to subsidise assassination. No.

My, the assassin's guild always welcomes some spontaneous donations. Black clothes are pricey after all, so are daggers, kettlebells and every assassin's weapons :D

And as a little side game, I'll give a geek point to the one who will notice the incongruity in my presentation ;)

Yes It is :) Many assassins uses GMB products, P1 is quite popular so is Vitamin movement. What program interested you? I may be able to direct you to someone who already bought it to have a direct opinion.

Hey Nuala! Good to see you doing a challenge :)

Love the setup. Hope we get to see some bento pictures.. and I hope you'll enjoy expanding that business + take some pride/happiness in it. Then it'll be successful anyway, so.

Why is flexibility different? week one/two 7 days a week and the rest 3?

Focused Flexibility and/or Floor One, mostly.  Thanks!

I'll check my assassins secret files for floor 1 :D I can't say much about focused flexibility as I never managed to complete my challenge. The first thing they ask you do is series of exercise. I took pictures for that part.

http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/33237-nualas-rome-was-not-build-in-one-day-mission-flexibility/?p=622308

You grade the exercises depending of the difficulty you have to do them and you pick the 2 most difficult. Then you have some videos to show you the exercises. Every week, you are supposed to re-do the exercises and grade them again. Pick the most difficult and so on. :) The videos are good quality and the "coach" has an very clean English, enough for a non-native like me to understand everything.

Sounds like a good plan to increase robot flexibilty. Interesting the turns life takes, the Bento lunch was just a side thing and now it may be a career.

Don't tell me! And I was so against it being my career but well, life :D

I think last time I counted I was over 150 pictures, with 3 daily customers (that don't always eat the same thing) the count goes really fast, I need to code my website.. quick :(

For FF, it's actually part of the program. Every day for 2 weeks, then we can go down to 3 times a week. Of course, doing more is possible :D Knowing me, sticking to the program will be challenging enough (procrastination? me? no...) and, seeing my previous results, completing my challenge would be a huge victory, I really burn out way too soon.

Ah that sounds perfect for NF challenges where the first 2 weeks are always the most enthusiastic. GMB is really starting to impress me, might look into that program as well if you can recommend it when you're done.

I'm sure you will finish this challenge, it feels like the stakes are high for you, so you'll do it!

I know a lot of people who had a crummy 2013... I feel like everyone has a bad year at some point in their life, mine was 2012, and 2011 wasn't so great either, but sometimes what comes out of a bad year is a whole lot of good. If my bad year had never happened, I definitely wouldn't be where I am today.

Looking forward to following along with this one, and good luck with the bento business!! If you ever progress to the point of having international deliveries, you can sign me up for sure!!

Also, your sloth picture is officially way creepier than a picture of a real sloth. He kind of looks like a metal ewok...

I'm mostly thinking of trying to survive week after week. 6 week is a bit too long for my natural anxiety :P

The pictures were really helpful, thanks.  I think I will get it...eventually.  Funding is an issue just now, as I am sure you will understand.

I totally get it, that's the reason why I decided on FF rather than P1. That and the fact that their website looked a bit... not super professional, so I wanted to check the less expensive contents before. Well, granted, I'm a web developer with a lot of pet peeves, so it's not totally their fault... But the contents seems solid, so yay :D

Bwahaha, this is genius! Spoken like a true sysadmin. And it's really reassuring that someone appreciates the joy that is Debian and Ubuntu.

Oh man, I just have to post here. =D

First off, I lol'd at your well typeface'd and accurate syntax Ubuntu bash goodness, haha. Second, I am impressed with the business; I'd definitely pay to have meals packed for me by someone who knew what they were doing! =) I've always feared entrepreneurship myself - signing my own paycheck seems like a daunting task to say the least.

But the icing on the cake... Welcome to the Arch Linux club. ;D When I first started playing with Linux (maybe 2001 or 2002?) I was using Slackware. And an ATI video card. With a dual monitor setup. =O Needless to say, my life was full of pain and suffering, hahaha. Then I graduated to Gentoo, which was still rough going but oh-so-much better than Slack. Sometime around 2011, I finally gave Arch Linux a try, after a friend picked it up and loved it. And, yup, gotta say: it's balance is as perfect as I've yet seen. =)

So, we've come from opposite camps to the same middle ground conclusion, haha. Pretty nifty.

And as with others in this thread, I have a great deal of faith in that 2014 will be a better year for you; it's already looking up. =)

2 days before I wrote up my challenge, I spent a whole day re-installing my computer to install Archlinux, that was a lot of fun and I admit that I like it better than my previous Ubuntu
