Buggy knees are no fun. Still, at least you're doing the right thing and minimising the chances of doing more damage. Hopefully it sorts itself out sooner rather than later.

Today's yoga class was kind of a mixed bag. :( The first half was no problem, forward bends, leg and hip flexor stretches, stuff like that. The second half was mostly kneeling positions, which I opted out of. *sigh*

 

Food tracking: done!

While I'm of course worrying about the outcome of Tuesday's appt :rolleyes:, there is no rest for the wicked...

 

Today's WTP included the modified warm up:

 

- warm up, including 8 x half Get Ups on each side

- 4 x 8 + 1 x 7 negative chin-ups

- 2 x 2 side planks 30 sec

- W&W mobility

 

Since today was pretty hard on the Wussies (wrists), I'll skip the pulling exercises from the BW routine, starting next week. 3 days / week of pulling exercises are quite enough, especially now that I'm going to reach my limits with the start of the "real" chin-up progression come next Thursday. :blink:

I might take the "easy" way first and start the chin-ups from a standing position (to avoid those awfully hard first inches I can't get over when I try to to a chin-up from a dead hang). I know that's not a real chin-up, yet, but might be more helpful in terms of building strength than struggling for months with those first inches.

Pros? Cons?

Well, since I suck at these currently I don't know if my opinion counts really, but I think that's a good idea. Just another step in the progression. My two cents.

 

But, I am happy to say that I found an exercise on the bowflex that simulates a pull up in a lying down position. It's a weighted exercise. So, if I can't manage the Scooby progressions until I get a pull up bar I will have an alternative! So Yay!

I will!

 

The "Scooby progression" is basically:

- basic numbers: 5 sets x 8 reps

- do as many chin-ups (or later pull-ups) as you can

- fill in the rest of the 5 x 8 with negatives

- do this three times a week.

 

I think I'll spend many weeks doing many, many negatives... :D

I'll try it out and see if it works. If it doesn't, I can still switch to the "real deal" (and a world of frustration :P ).

 

Good job finding an alternative with the bowflex - you're nothing if not creative! :encouragement: (Still keeping my fingers crossed that you'll get a pull-up bar and / or a BB for your birthday soon! ;)

 

We did. We also had a couple of heated discussions, but it was overall a fun lesson. A lot of time was spent steering just with my seat (Look, Ma, no hands!) - mostly slalom around and over poles lying on the ground. That was... fun, mostly for anyone who happened to watch at that time. :D

I got my last 4 half Get Ups done today, plus all the food tracking. *whew*

 

That means week #1 is officially over for me, and here are my grades:

 

WTP: practiced (negative) chin-ups 3 days / week => A

TGUs: I managed 5 full TGUs + 30 half Get Ups / week => A

Tracking: 7 days / week => A

 

Life goal: I managed to talk to HR and send them an edited version of the reference, but I haven't heard from them since. Need to step on a couple of toes next week...

Taking the Redhead for stepping on toes is not a bad idea - but she's usually too well mannered for that. Also, I think BIG BLACK might be a tad more intimidating (he's one huge black draft horse, about 18 hands high (180 cm) and probably weighs about 2000 lbs, give or take (twice as much as the Redhead)). He's actually a big softie, but they don't have to know that, right?

 

The Monday workout is already in, including 7 half Get Ups on each side:

 

- warm up incl. Get Ups

- 2 x 16 squats (slightly lower than parallel)

- 2 x 8 incline push-ups

- 2 x 8 one-legged warriors, 1 phone book overhead, 2 second pauses

 

And I managed to get up at 5:40 a.m. again. Will have to start a little earlier tomorrow (somewhere between 5 / 5:15 latest), but I couldn't bring myself to do that today. Ugh. :blink:

 

Tracking will probably be a lot more... ahem... interesting, today, as I'm back to work and have no idea what lunch may bring. :P

And thank you - but if I don't get my workout done in the morning, I won't get it done at all. So getting up at an ungodly time is still better than not working out. I don't always have to get up quite that early, but tomorrow is just one of those days, you know... *shrug*

 

Tracking was really not pretty today. *lol*

The boss's wife was doing the cooking again, and she made Schnitzel for us, plus potato salad w/ oil and vinegar and a cucumber salad. And then a chocolate pudding for dessert.

 

If MFP is to be believed, I was still under my estimated TDEE for training days, but still... Those numbers might be a little prettified.

Actually I have been amazed at what some people can fit in their macros. I guess it is possible to eat anything and meet cal/ pro/ cho/fat. :playful:  lol

Thanks, Ash, Monday was not too bad (aside from having a pretty :dejection: time at work - there are days I could swear I left my brain at home or somewhere else... Tsk!).

 

Anyway... Good morning, everyone! :cheerful:

 

The last of the all-negative chin-up days is in the bag:

 

- warm up incl. 7 half Get Ups

- 2 side planks 30 sec each side, upper leg lifted horizontally (guess I needed a bit of a change ;))

- W&W mobility

 

Later in the afternoon I'll have my appt with the knee doc. *keeping my fingers crossed*
