Okay I just checked and my failed bench rep came after I'd repped more at that weight than ever before. So I don't feel quite as bad. But still upset.

I AM going the distance

'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood.

Woot on deadlifts and shrugs.

I guess not missing lifts while someone is watching is something to work on? In some ways it doesn't matter unless you're planning on competing (are you?) though in others it's part of mental toughness training. You'll figure it out. Diet too.

Any particular reason spousal unit can't make his own breakfast?

Sounds like coach knows exactly what is needed to motivate you!

Spousal unit has the a.m. zoo keeping shift. 3 cats: 3 different meds, 2 different diets. While he does that, I cook. That way we are totally ready to go in about an hour.

I'm sorry today has been a struggle for you. But look how much weight you repped! You did hard things!!!

Big hugs!!!

I guess. I don't usually miss when coach watches but there was another client there. I dunno. Why would people want to be watched?

And the diet. .. sigh. So hard. Am so disappointed in self that it's so hard. Fasting is easier.

And bc I had to carry all my gym stuff and my food, I'm officially carrying more than 1 bag to work and that horrifies me. I don't want to be that person.

To be fair, I have gym clothes, post gym clothes (bc I'm not putting dress and heels on to walk home), lifting shoes, sneakers, hat, mittens, and daily crap I'm one bag and my food and water in a small shopping bag. But still. I'm not into more than one bag.

Depressing.

I also finally worked up enough courage to wear a dress I bought a couple of months ago and then instantly regretted it.

Not a good week.

Yea, I'm not sure how to manage the bag-lady feeling either.  I feel totally stupid driving 1 mile to work, but the car substitutes for gym bag, lunch bag, casual clothing bag, and choir stuff.  Maybe bike panniers?  Big enough and you can throw them over your shoulder and look totally radical.

Ah, totally makes sense why you're on breakfast duty. Re: the bag thing, I know shoes take up a lot of space, but would you have time to flatten your workout and post-gym clothes into some gallon ziploc bags? It seriously cuts down on the amount of space they take. And then you could re-use them for your work clothes so they don't get all sweaty by riding in the bag with your workout clothes. Just brainstorming.

Oh... I haven't biked to work since I tore the hamstring really bad.  Bike riding is still one of the few things that's really painful.

So this is just a daily schlep.

I can keep most of my junk at my gym locker - at least my lifting shoes and belt.  But I still have to transport them back and forth at least one day a week b/c I lift somewhere else on Sundays.  Sometimes, like today, I'll probably leave my work shoes at work and wear my sneaks but that's dependent on a.m. meetings, etc.  My gym clothes and after gym clothes are all shoved in a packing cube that is about 6x6x12.  So it doesn't take up much room and it's pretty smashed.

I just really hate when people can't get their act together to just put their stuff in one bag.  I see these people on the bus and they have 2-3 bags - full of what?  Normally, I can get everything in one bag.  gym stuff, after gym stuff and lunch.  AND my daily crap.  I sometimes tie sneakers on the outside.  But still - one bag.  ONE.

Haha. I throw everything in a ruck. The rolled-up yoga mat used to go on top. Sometimes makes it tricky to shove everything in gym lockers, but I get by. One guy in my old gym kept everything in a black garbage bag like a damn hobo.

Yeah, all my stuff goes in a ruck.  And it is hard to shove in my gym locker.  So I use a carabiner and hang it from a hook inside.

I'm considering the garbage bag....

Today I got all excited b/c I could shove all my food in my ruck and be back to one bag until I realized I had to carry extra shoes AGAIN today b/c it's going to snow...

BOMBOGENESIS!!

and I'll have to walk 2 mi in the snow and ain't no way I'm doing that in my sneaks b/c I'll freeze.  So I need my weather proof shoes - which do not have laces (neoprene collar instead) so I can't tie them on my ruck... *sigh*

2 bags again today.  Ruck o'life bag and bag o'food.  Damn.

But on the upside here are the amazing things that made me smile this morning:

1.  On the bus I sent a funny cat vid to my co-workers.  Ah funny cat vids.... people who love them ... life is grand.

2.  On the bus I saw a father carrying his baby daughter.  I see them somewhat regularly.  I don't really care too much, nothing fascinating there.  Except today, sitting across from them, was an old woman... watching them... with such love and compassion... smiling so warmly.  You could just tell she was thinking about her own children or grandchildren.  I so wish I had a camera. She was bundled up for the cold and just looked so amazingly full of love. I'm so glad I saw her.  She really looked like she was watching her own family (they were not her family).  Just amazing.

3.  BOMBOGENESIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Way better than polar vortex.  Walking home 2 mi in BOMBOGENESIS tonight!  FTW!

4.  I read this today about lifting.  Powerful stuff:

Last night's training:

Heavy overhead pressing.  Repped my current max x 2.  Got a little greedy b/c I was pissed about missing that bench on Sunday so added +5 and did two singles.  A smidge cheated but not bad enough to not count.

Rows - still pissed so added 15#.

One arm rows - they're BACK!  almost no elbow pain and was able to move the 75# DB easily.  That's -5# off my max w straps.  No straps last night.  This is a GOOD sign about my elbow.  I still need to stay away from curls but this made me feel so much better.

Pause squats - mmmmm light at only 60% but I made good looooong pauses - these were for volume

Leg curls = evil after squats

Squats at 70% for volume..... egads.  But I banged them all out repped per program

30 mins on the bike, random hills, only 12.87 miles.  fail.  Should have easily been 15 mi in 30 minutes... *sigh*

walk home 2 mi.

Whined about food and diet.  Whined some more.

Coach says "do whatever u want".

Felt like more whining until I found out we were getting BOMBOGENESIS!

Sounds like you're killing it in training but the diet sucks. Do you mind me asking specifics? I saw earlier that you were eating up in the 2000-2200 which seems inline for how much you train. Are you going lower than that?

I generally come in around 2000/day I think.  Mostly very low carb.  Some days I'm lower.  I don't really train that much, so it's fine.

Coach put me on a new plan and I have to eat very differently.  It's really hard for me.  He wants me adding in carbs - which I don't normally eat.  I can easily get through an entire week of no carbs except for what comes naturally in veggies.

So, he's got me on a modified diet and I'm eating what I consider to be way too much food and way too much carbs.  I'm hitting 120-180g carbs a day right now and that's waaaaayyyyy too much for me.  I'm very unhappy about it and struggling terribly.  He doesn't care.

Yesterday was horrible.

Had an argument type of weird text/email exchange with coach.  There is no leeway in his diet for me at ALL.  If he says eat only this type of carb he means only that type of carb.  No other options.  If he says eat lean protein - fish or chicken, he means that's all I can eat.  If I ask "what about pork tenderloin or bison?", I get "stop asking questions and do as your told or half ass it... I don't care".  *sigh*  He was in a really bad mood and then that put me in a bad mood. Whatever.  I've expended too much energy on it already.

It was kind of like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDCgp6JW8Ug&feature=player_detailpage

But it negatively impacted my work day and I'm not keen on that b/c I like my work.

AND yesterday was bombogenesis day - ain't got time for people to spoil that for me!

After work, I walked in the bombogenesis to the gym (still open yay gym!).

Heavy squats, singles for volume

Heavy deads repped for volume

I was supposed to add 30 mins of cardio in new diet plan but I had to get out b/c gym was closing early

So instead....

I schlepped home rucking all my crap through the bombogenesis - which was actually nice.  2 mi good speed.  Got home and had to shovel so did that with my ruck.  Got up this a.m. and shoveled again and walked back to work.

Did some great coursework last night.  Really enjoyed it.  Listened to music... nice evening really.  All by myself.  Good.

You train just about every day right? That's a lot to me!

I see. I'm doing the same thing essentially now. Eating more carbs then I'm used to, 200g. I used to eat way less than that, again what's in veggies. No rice/bread/beans. Now I have to eat that stuff and it's weird adjusting. Somedays are rough. But you know what? I'm losing BF and gaining muscle and still losing some weight. Give it some time, at least three weeks. You can do it. You're a badass.

Also, giving blood next week. Heck yeah!

Yeah, I train 7x week.  Right now, my lifting runs 1.5-2 hours w 30 mins cardio 4x week, Muay Thai 2x week, 1 hour cardio 1x week until elbow is better then back to Muay Thai 3x (maybe next week!!!! SQUEEE)

But really, it's not that much.

Really?  You did that to your diet?  REALLY?  I tried adding in white rice, some grits, etc.  and I think I just gained 7lbs and felt like crap all the time.  I hate feeling full.  I'm used to feeling hungry so that's okay.

What are you eating?  man, this is soooo what I needed to hear.  Thank you so much!

I weight train 3 times a week for an hour. What you do is inspiring!

Yup, my coach gave me an overview of what I should reach for and try it for 3 weeks. 2200 cal/ PRO 200g / CHO 205g / FAT 75g. It's been tough, at first I couldn't hit the carbs, but now I need to make sure not to go over the protein number with carbs. I'd say I've averaged 160-180g of carbs per day but I always hit or go above my protein number.

Luckily I've seen results, but I'm much bigger than you so I'm still at a deficit. But it seems like a lot of food, and I'm usually always full. It's tough though. At least your coach tells you what to eat, I've been winging this damn thing.

As for food I eat. I love eating Paleo. So a bunch of chicken to hit my protein. I try not to have protein shakes, but I usually do because otherwise I would be stuffed all the time. So chicken for my big meat consumption, sometimes pork. For carbs, I eat a lot of cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, and I supplement with rice and beans. I prefer rice since I don't seem as full with it like with beans. 100g of rice is right around 24g of carbs, and isn't a lot of rice. Occasionally I'll have a tortilla with peanut butter, usually at night.

I don't count veggie carbs and only eat most green veg (anc cauliflower) at this point.

I'm shooting for 180-200g protein from lean sources only but I eat everything fish, chicken, egg whites, bison, pork tenderloin.  120-180g carbs are supposed to be from sweet potatoes only.  This makes no sense to me.  I get the no fruit thing and I gave up fruit a long time ago.  I don't do any grains so no rice, oats, etc.  I also don't eat any gluten so no cereal or tortillas.  No nuts of any kind right now and no nut butter.  I'm aiming for essentially no fats at this point.  I am on a schedule for eating.  Coach allows one pwo shake w carbs for one of my meals but everything else must be food.

It's driving me bonkers b/c I feel stuffed and I hate it.  I'm terrified I'm packing on pounds.  Who wouldn't?

My husband said "you are eating like a pro athlete.  You are not a pro athlete".  :(

My husband eats a lot less than me and is still on very low carb.  He thinks this is ridiculous.

Why do you not count the veggie carbs? Just what coach said?

Why only sweet potato carbs? Is this (as in no gluten or grains) due to your allergies or just because coach said so? Otherwise this doesn't make sense. I tried just regular potatoes and I felt full and stuffed and not great. No fruit makes sense, and low fat makes sense. Nuts makes sense due to the high fat.

To be completely frank, eating this much protein without a good amount of fiber/carbs will make you feel "full" if you catch my drift. I noticed a difference after upping my carbs closer to what I've been told.

Personally, you train as much as a pro athlete. Probably more than some, so that's not to worry. You're not eating 5000-10000 calories a day so you're good. If anything weight gain could be added muscle growth (which carbs help build) and potentially digested food in transit.

1.  because veg carbs are really low.  I eat mostly green veg, so it's fine. I've never counted veg carbs.

2.  re: sweet potatoes.  I have no effing clue.  It's old school body building I think.  I asked about plantains and he went ballastic telling me plantains are "not real food" which made no sense to me whatsoever.  I think it should just be a healthy slow starch.  Now you see why he freaked.  I suspect he eats only sweet potatoes, this works for him therefore I should eat only sweet potatoes.  Or he knows not the wonder of the plantain.  I dunno.  I like plantains.  Easy to overdose on, so I'm very careful to measure.  They agree with me.

Gluten free is a lifestyle/diet choice b/c I believe gluten is bad.  I feel better without it.  But no, not allergy related.

3.  Yeah, I'm probably still close to 2000 calories a day.  Probably hitting it more often than not and was probably missing that more often before.

I just finished eating.  again.  all I do is eat.  I carry a bag of embarrassing tupperware containers.  I weigh and measure all my damned food.  I am almost out of food already for the week.  My fridge hasn't seen this much food since before I lost weight.  My husband eats way less than me.  It's embarrassing.  People at work have started talking....

I think your coach is putting you on a diet similar to how I'm eating these days.  (High-carb low-fat paleo.)

Happy to chat at 4T as much as you want about it. :) <3

Is 120-180g carb considered high carb????? ACK!  I do not want a high carb diet.  Shit.  I thought that was more like low end of normal.  UGH.  I'm soooo getting fatter.  I do not have room to spare in the fat dept.

He's unclear about fat.  Another thing we argued about.  I took fat out except for meat and eggs about 2 weeks ago.  I figured when he said "lean protein only" that meant no fat.  Him:  I never said that.  *sigh*  So, I'm leaving it out for now.

I don't see how I'm going to lose weight this way.  Ain't no thin people out there eating this much damned food.

I almost always have to carry a separate bag for my food now.  Seriously.  That's mortifying.
