childofscorn: Breaking Bad

So I've come to a conclusion: I'm tired of half-assing it through life.  More specifically I'm tired of being the type of person who only gives 50% and then is dissatisfied with the results.  My life has become filled with the flotsam that accumulates around someone who is not present in every moment; my daily schedule is one mindless distraction after another, occasionally puntuated by paltry, insipid attempts to pay lip service to health and wellness. But what's the solution?

Slsp8DN.jpg

^Apparently.

Main Quest:

I want to become the sort of person who integrates healthy habits into her life, and gives 100% to every challenge she faces.

This is how I will begin to complete my quest:

1. Healthy Habits Means Good Food:

I'm currently on Day 7 of a Whole30, so the first part of this goal is to successfully complete it with no cheating and no murder.  Well maybe a little murder, if I've been good.  The second part of this challenge is to determine my post-Whole30 game plan.  I've already learned that I'm completely okay without some foods that I never would have imagined beforehand.  With this in mind, I want to be able to go into the days bey0nd Whole30 know what I've CHOSEN to eat, and not eat.

2. Healthy Habits Means Good Mobility

I am not a supple leopard, alas.  Several of my exercise limitations are mobility-based right now, so to correct this rather lamentable circumstance, the focus of this goal will be to stretch every day, without failure or excuse.  Even if I'm sick, I can still at least stretch, so no excuses.

3. Healthy Habits Means Good Consistency

I belong to a gym, but my attendance over the holidays was....less than stellar.  If I'm going to become the sort of person who has healthy habits, and the sort of person that gives everything to every challenge, then this is a critical goal.  I am going to go to the gym 4x every week, and with two reliable gym partners, there's no reason that this can't happen.  I can't let my laziness, or fear of failure, or the intimidation of gym rats keep me from doing what it takes to become who I want to become.

V8PzAEb.jpg

One last thing:

Healthy Habits Means Knowing What the Fuck is Going On

Side Quest: I have been reeeeeeeally bad about scheduling things and then forgetting about them lately.  To combat this, i've acquired a day planner to keep it all in one place.  My goal for the life quest is to use the day planner every day to make sure I know what's coming up in the days and weeks to come.  If it's not in the day planner, it doesn't happen, period.  If anyone has a problem with that, well....

So I'm sick.  Not like "rush me to the ER before i croak" sick, but "I'm just going to lay in bed for the next 5 days, if that's okay" sick.  How will this affect my goals, you ask?  This is my plan:

Goal the First: Whole30

Thus far, I have maintained strict adherence to my Whole30, and i'm almost halfway through so I don't want to just blow it when the hardest days are almost over.  My plan right now is to continue with the Whole30 unless I just can't muster up the energy that I need to cook my food.  If I get to that point, I've decided that I will allow myself to eat rice if I need it for the calories.  Partially because I have a rice cooker, which means that I can set it, take a nap, and wake up to cooked rice :D but also because I've already decided that rice is one of the foods that I'm going to add back into my diet once the Whole30 is over.

Am I thrilled about this decision?  Of course not.  I've spent most of the day agonizing about it in the back of my mind, but I finally decided that I can't really afford to end up in the hospital because I was being bullheaded about this.  Soooo we'll see what happens.  If I can get my husband to help cook some of my foods, that would definitely make life easier, but he's not the most experienced cook in the world, so sometimes he needs significant supervision.  Anyway, I'm going to play it by ear. ^_^

Goal the Second: Stretches

No slacking, no excuses here.  Stretching makes me feel so much better that unless I am just physically incapable of dragging my ass out of bed, stretches will continue as planned.

Goal the Third: Consistent gym habits

So I'm pretty sure that I picked up this lovely little bug at the gym, but between my immune system and the number of colds and infections floating around in the winter, I could have caught it anywhere.  That being said, I still plan on making it to the gym 4x a week, unless one of a small list of things happen: the gastrointestinal tract gets invited to the party, i develop a fever of 101 or greater, I don't have the energy to get out of bed, or I'm officially told not to by my doctor.  I will be treating this upcoming week as a maintenance or deload week though, so I won't be pushing myself quite so hard.

And finally, my side quest: using the planner.

Uhm, yeah.  This one is good.  No excuses whatsoever here. ^_^

Hello, Mini-Challenge #1 stalk-ee!

Just wanted to pop-in and say good luck with the challenge. Feeling sick is yucky but it's a legitimate part of life and a legitimate impediment to certain things -- I think how you've decided to address it in your goal-setting is completely appropriate. Good luck in a quick return to awesome-feeling-ness.

Post-Challenge Wrap-Up:

Okay, so maybe not so much with the updating. ^_^ So here's the results of my challenge goals!

1. Healthy Habits Means Good Food:

So I ended up having to take a break from this whole30 because of some health stuff, but I've made an effort to maintain a habit of cleaner eating than i did before this challenge.  That's working out pretty well, and I am seeing the benefits of a healthier diet already, so that has made it easier to stick with. ^_^

2. Healthy Habits Means Good Mobility

Stretched every damn day! Hells yeah.  I'm now able to get deep into a squat and have started adding weight to my squats finally! *happy dance*

3. Healthy Habits Means Good Consistency

So I didn't make it 4x/week, but I have been able to make it 3x/week.  I think this is reasonable and while I would LIKE to make it 4x, I'd rather go consistently 3x a week, than go 4x one week, and not at all the next because i'm too burnt out or sore.  So yeah.

Challenge finished, and succeeded well enough, I think.  Could I improve?  Absolutely.  But hey, that's why there are challenges every couple of months, right? :D

I like 3xweek for gymming anyway... if it means 3xEVERYweek... especially rather than 4x one week and none the next week :)

I love the healthier diet :)

and mobility :D
