A king cake is a Mardi Gras tradition down here in the Gulf Coast (as well as other various places). They can come in many flavors, but the traditional ones are pretty much giant cinnamon rolls covered in purple, gold, and green sugar sprinkles (on top of the cream cheese frosting).

I am also faced with resisting this entity. Not even sure I should attend the upcoming Mardi Gras party...

I am pretty good at resisting them now since reducing the sugar intake, they are incredibly sweet. One tiny sliver is usually plenty for the entire season... unless it is the amaretto flavored one that I make... then I just send that one off to work with my SO and life is fine :D

Hi, Cowgirls. Thought I'd introduce myself and share my current challenge:

My Main Quest is to:

Prepare for my first Ultra-Marathon, a 50K (31 mile) trail race on April 27th.

Missions to help me succeed at my Quest:

1. Add at least one trail run to my regular weekly running schedule

2. Ensure one long run (between 10-22 miles) every week

3. Practice strength training 1-3 times each week

Additionally, my current Life Quest is to practice visualization and meditation at least 3 times each week

And I have also added NO EATING OUT to my current challenge. I'd gotten into the habit of eating out too often, so NO MORE for the rest of these 6 weeks :redface-new:!

I've checked out everyone's goals and they all sound great!

Glad to be here!

Hey, Vanessa! We have remarkAbly similar goals. I usually have a meditation goal as well, but I'm taking a break from it this time. It's hard, isn't it?

Yes, it is! The frustrating part is that I really CAN see the positive benefits I get from meditation and visualization-- but I still struggle with doing it regularly. It's easier for me to get my miles in each day than to sit still and quietly focus. Oh well-- I guess that means lots of room for improvement :redface-new:.

On a more serious note: I just came through an awful couple of days-- a kid ran into the street in front of me as I was driving with my daughter. We braked and swerved but couldn't avoid her. It was the most horrifying and traumatic experience I've ever known. Fortunately, she was okay (just bumps and bruises)-- but waiting to find out if she was injured was the worst night of my life. If it weren't for being able to turn off the noisy monkeys in my head and focus (in small increments) on the present moment, I'm sure I would have lost my mind.

:(! I am so sorry to hear about the accident! That sounds like quite a nightmare. I'm glad everyone's okay.

Having a regular meditation practice can be great during crises. I remember when my mom injured her spine, my meditation practice helped me get through. If you're in high volume worry mode all the time, those few moments of peace can really carry you. But it's hard to build up to that! And it's so easy to lose.
