Time to get moving again

Well, I've been slacking for too long now but am ready to go again.
Goals...
1)Lose 5 lbs. Starting weight 231.0 Dex 2/Sta 1/Cha 2
2)Exercise at least three times a week. This will probably be a combination of cycling (my favorite) and body/free weight exercises. Str 2/Con 2/Sta 1
3)complete my taxes before the challenge ends. I have a habit of procrastination in this area because of all the paperwork involved with running a business and getting them done sooner will relieve a lot of pressure for the spring season.  Wis 2

I know I'm late, but challenge looks good. Excited to see how you do.

 

I've gotten into the habit of more recommending focusing instead of the goals of things like weight loss, instead focusing on how you're going to reach those goals. Eating, Tracking, Exercise, Meditation, Cold Showers, Habit Changes, etc. Hitting specific measurements can be difficult within a time frame, as there's a lot of different things that can affect them (even the time of day or weighing in on different days can give you drastic difference of 5lbs or more on the scale). It's worse if you're doing a lot of new exercises because you might actually even gain some weight as well (due to muscle mass).

 

I also don't see you having any focus on the diet, and if you're trying to lose weight diet is vastly more important to this than exercise (there have been people that have lost loads of weight before even adding in exercise on diet alone....actually thinking about this I actually dropped from around 265 to 235 just with small dietary changes).

 

That said, it's your challenge you do it how you think it works best for you, but I just wanted to toss out that advice, mostly I see people happier with results of non end-goal based challenges. Just make sure to keep it SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevent, and Timely) and Good Luck!

Hey there, looks like you`re making progress; as RogueWelkin said, you shouldn't give too much about your weight, but more about how you`re getting there. My weight has been hitting a plateau for quite some time now, but still I feel like I have been losing body fat (didn't get to measure it before, though, bummer). Best wishes to you, I hope you`re doing fine.

Same for weight gainers... Focus on the "how".

 

He had a lung infection, but is much better. Still a cute butthead.

First let me say that I appreciate everyone's input on this issue. I truly mean that.

However on this one I'm afraid I'm going to have to play the rebel. Suffice it to say I prefer the wing-it approach of consistently eating less (without the recording of meals) and exercisizing more to reach my weight loss goals while letting the scale and body measurements be the actual metric of my progress. I have found that (for myself) without the actual target weight as a goal I take a much more lackadaisical aproach and cosequently fail to make the kind of progress I know I'm capable of.

Unlike most, I weigh myself and take body fat recordings every day - always first thing in the morning before taking in any food or water (without taking any one or two measurements very seriously) - and graph the progress over time. This way I can quickly see when I'm making progress and in what direction. I always take water and muscle gain into account -certain meals , when you last had something to drink, and other circumstances (like constipation, or other health issues) can affect weight by a couple of pounds overnight - and I don't let myself get discouraged by a couple of days of erroneous measurements. This technique does allow me to spot trends of behavior and their results, whether up or down,  so that I can compensate quickly to get to the desired goal in the  time that I alot.

So, that being said, even if I don't make it all the way to the goal weight - which doesn't happen too often - I always view the progress as a win, and because of the effect that it has had on my cholesterol and body composition so does my doctor. So much so that it made him curious to learn more about NerdFitness.

Week 2 update :

Exercise 3 days - done

Lose 5 lbs. Starting weight 231.0 - current weight 227.6 - on track

Finish taxes - did some more work on these and am making good progress.

A decent week.

Well, this has been an odd year... 5 deaths in the family since last May. :'(

It all started with my 15 year old niece getting hit by two cars.

Next my aunt succumbed to cancer.

Then a mother-in-law.

Next my 44 year old cousin - while at the gym - two days before Christmas.

And finally (I hope) my step dad on Sunday. WTF is going on? It seems like every time I turn around I'm putting that suit on again....

Ouch, that sound like a rough period. Sorry to hear 80(. Hopefully that's the end of it for a long long long while.

Damn, sorry to hear.  I hear of streaky things liek that happen too.  I've had it a bit in my family too. :(

1) Lose 5 lbs. 227.0 - down by 4 now woohoo!

2) Exercise 3 times - done

3) finish taxes by end of challenge - finished the itemizing expenses stage, now onto totaling income. Almost there.

Excellent job Telemon, maybe it's time to review the goals and think about adjusting them for what your aim is now for the end of the challenge.
