angelgoone
I'm starting over and sticking to it. I began it once ago but never finished the challenge. This time it's different. This beautiful Saturday morning, I woke up and just began my warm up and my work out. Turns out I am way out of shape (I don't remember needing such a long break between reps) and I don't like it. I don't feel happy with myself and I hate how I seem to ignore the situation and just give in to my wants instead of giving myself the much needed restrictions. I don't care so much about my weight. From what I've gathered from all the information on this site, weight isn't the tell-all of your health rating. With that in mind, I want to lose my love handles and strengthen my core so that I can finally walk with my head up high. Main Quest:I want to lose 3 inches off of my waist and 1 inch from my arms. Goals: 1. Take a daily walk around my neighborhood with my beloved boys or do the NerdFitness beginner's workout every other day (15 minutes) 2. no food after 8 pm. 3. Snack on Fruit instead of processed junk (yum yum oranges!) I started a little late but I woke up this morning with determination. I don't want to wait til Monday to begin this new way of life. I don't want to wait til next month to begin my health kick. I don't want to wait til I absolutely hate my image before I decide to take drastic measures. I want to change now and be happy now. I feel much better as it is after writing this down and working out a bit. Angelgoone Link to comment

angelgoone
Thanks guys. I am excited! Day two today and I felt incapable of working out (not because I am sore but because I just felt like I was going nowhere with it) but I still did it. I turned on my guilty pleasure (Bridezillas) and just did it. I worked out for thirty minutes (a lot of jump rope and resistance bands) and just did it. Good for me. I gave me a pat on the back, showered and complimented myself. After all, I'm not gettin anywhere with hating my self image. I'm better off improving what I can and loving what I have now. As I was reading one of the NERDFITNESS emails I came upon this question again and well...."I want you to answer a question for me: what is one SPECIFIC thing you are doing to make your life better TODAY?" Today, I am going to look into a vocational school (aviation mechanic) and begin the improvement in my career. I am tired of my dead end jobs and I want something for myself even if that means more student loans, at least it's an investment that I will appreciate sooner than never. Angelgoone Link to comment

I love snack mix--especially raisins and nuts. Thanks for the tip. For now, I snack on oranges (my parents have an orange tree with apparently no end) and that has satisfied my snacking urges. Of course, once orange season is over, I have no idea what to replace my snack with. Angelgoone Link to comment
angelgoone
LOVE this keep it up (both fitness + school)!!Thanks, Melody. I most definitely am excited to look into aviation mechanics school. But I am more thrilled to be on day 3 of this journey with 2.5 hours of sweat provoking workouts. I love the encouragement. Teros
Hello! I found that cashews and raisins are the best snack for me. However, if you make your own trial mix of different stuff, an easy way to control yourself it to get a bunch of ziploc bags and portion the stuff THE DAY YOU BUY IT ALL. That way, there's already set portion control and it's easy to just grab a bag while heading out the door for a snack at work. 1 Link to comment
angelgoone
SO sorry for the late responses. I was just laid off from work a few days ago and I have just been lost throwing my resume everywhere and anywhere. Plus, I have signed up for school to become and aviation mechanic, which is probably the greatest decision I have EVER made for myself. Pretty soon, I shall have a rockin career! As far as my dieting goes,I have been slacking off a bit due to my fear of saying "no" to my significant other and his parents but I have taken my biweekly pictures of myself and I have to say, while I am not at all happy with how I look, I at least think I see a slight difference. Either way, I started off this day with a nice 30 minute circuit training just because I slipped up quite a bit last night. As far as the trail mix in individual, pre-measured packages go, that is a GREAT idea. I haven't even considered that. FOr now, I am still sticking to my oranges and popcorn although I am beginning to think popcorn isn't so helpful and I am considering dropping wine from my diet...which is a light bummer but I shall manage. Snack on Fruit instead of processed junk (yum yum oranges!) Ooo, as far as my goals go,I've yet to take a walk around anywhere with my boys. I do do at least 15 minutes of working out each day but I feel it is not enough. I don't even get a real sweat. I glisten with 15 minutes. I am bumping that workout up to 30 minutes at least 4 times a week. I try not to eat after 8 but it's those damn halloween candies that my significant other refuses to let me toss. It's not his fault, it's mine. I should just have more will power. I am getting better. I love oranges. Oranges everywhere! But I confess, fruit is not my only snack on certain days. Sometimes, a half sandwich wins over everything else. Or a mayo free tuna salad. It's all mostly healthy and I am satisfied I've mostly kept to this rule....but then candy calls to me during the late evening.... I haven't measured myself yet to count the difference, or lack thereof, but I am paying close attention to how my clothes fit and my jeans aren't trying to cut off my bottom half from my midsection. Why are you afraid to say 'no' to them? Popcorn really doesn't help. It's starchy and doesn't really fill up. Link to comment

Popcorn does it for me as far as getting that full feeling. I tend to share my 1 bag of popcorn with my boys anyways. But I don't particularly like saying "no" to someone because I don't want to get the "O, you're not fat!" or "you're not going to lose weight the way you're going at it" or whatever else people tend to say when someone changes their eating habits. You're in control. Instead of saying you're trying to lose weight and therefore inviting all sorts of generic info or tons of opinions- reframe it. Say that you're trying to get healthy. You are eating more vegetables and lean protein because you want to eat more real, unprocessed food and want to feel better. Or that you're going for walks because you want some cardio to help with heart-health. Something along those lines. Maybe if you used 'healthy' in replace of 'weight loss' in the conversation, there won't be so many opinions/loaded language. For #3, with the candy late at night- is it because of boredom that you want to eat? Or is it like an old habit/ritual where you are getting home from work and then unwinding with some junk? Writing about it when you feel that way might help- the more info, the better the way to handle it when it happens again. 1 Link to comment
