Inspired Fool's First Quest

Recommended Posts

Greetings Fellow Rebels!

I am New to the forums and this is my First Quest.

My Main Quest is to:

Prepare for my first Ultra-Marathon, a 50K (31 mile) trail race on April 27th.

Missions to help me succeed at my Quest:

1. Add at least one trail run to my regular weekly running schedule

2. Ensure one long run (between 10-22 miles) every week

3. Practice strength training 1-3 times each week

Additionally, my current Life Quest is to practice visualization and meditation at least 3 times each week in order to facilitate my personal growth and active creation of an ever-improving, passion-driven life.

First Quest Update:

On track with my goals so far-- have completed both a long run this week (15.5 miles) as well as hitting the trails (with my dog who was ridiculously happy to be running them with me :joyous:) and have been successful in getting my strength training in.

Have struggled a little with implementing the visualization/meditation routine, as I have less experience in that area. However, making strides in the right direction and have been utilizing a journal as an accountability tool + keeper of inspiration.

Thanks, German! Things are going well this week although a respiratory illness has slowed me down somewhat-- using all my Jedi training to defeat the illness and meet my weekly mileage + goals :joyous:. I had to move a few of my runs inside this week (treadmill) so the cold air here (25 F) wouldn't agitate my lungs any further.

No worries Vanessa, some health-related setbacks come sooner or later, the important part is to take care of yourself and not let this get you off the wagon!

Progress Update-- This week was even better, as I'm over my illness and my lungs are fully functioning again. Got my long run in yesterday by running from my house to my mate's home 14 miles from mine-- last 3 miles through snow + ice :nonchalance:. Lucky me, he had a feast awaiting my arrival :love-struck: (ham, almonds, sweet breads, fresh coffee...)

Strength training and meditation also went well-- a good soundtrack helps with the weight training motivation.

Looking forward to running in warmer weather in days to come!!

Hooray for running dreams! Remember having flying dreams when you were a kid? Well, actually I still have those, too, sometimes-- but more common for me (and just as awesome) are my running dreams. Anyone else out there have these?

Last night I covered some serious (nocturnal) miles. Woke up ready to run!!

I have been having running dreams. Where I break out of my slow pace, and can feel my muscles moving faster and faster as the wind tangles my hair behind me. My boyfriend usually wakes me up though because then I start attempting to run in bed I guess. Haha. Enjoy your weekend!

Progress Update: Another successful 14 miles yesterday (and cold!!); keeping up with the strength training, also (and enjoying it!). My difficulty has been getting myself to actually practice the visualization/meditation. It's easier for me to be active. I know the vis/med helps and I notice the benefits when I do it.... just hard to make myself do it regularly.

On a side note: too much pizza and ice cream at yesterday's superbowl bash. Worried about ass size.

I'll be jumping on the "no eating out" wagon for the rest of the challenge with you... Starting now. Haha.

Really nice job on the 14 mile run!

I think the thing that really helped me make a regular meditation practice was setting up a kind of ritual. Every day at the same time after doing some light cleaning, I would sit in the same place with a little timer for as long as I thought I could do it. Easier said than done, I know.

Another strategy is going on a "meditation binge." With meditation, you actually can binge without getting hurt, so why not. If you make it your soul focus and spend a few days just meditating, doing it later and regularly is not as hard. It's like starting a car.

This totally appeals to the extremist side of my personality! :)
