2: 3.6, 3.8

3: 4, 4.2

4: 4.4, 4.6

  • Eat at least one meal a day that has fruit/veg and lean protein.

Grading for each goal:

A - All completed

B - 1 missed

C - 2 missed

D - 3 missed

E - 4 missed

F - 5 missed

Life quest:

Start a small online shop.

I am a normal weight, unfit 25 year old. I started to train for a half marathon in April ’13 but stopped. I want this to be the last time I look back and wonder what I’d be able to do now if I’d kept it up.

My partner is also not the most encouraging person, so I’m looking forward to having some support!

So does this mean you're working out 6 times a week?  What is your level of fitness prior to this challenge?  If you were working out twice a week, and then try to bump it up to 6 times, it's going to be hell on your body.  No one's body can adjust to that much of a change.  If you were working out 4-5 times a week previously, then this is totally doable.

What does super healthy meal mean exactly?  What's the criteria?  Tons of vegetables? Leaner meats? Smaller portion? Bigger portion?  It needs to be a bit more specific.

I had to bust my but for 4 months before my partner finally started to go along with things.  Just stick with this and it'll eventually turn around.  In the meantime, you have the NF Rebels. :)

GL with the marathon.  I've got a long way to go with weightloss but I'm signed up for a Spartan race in June.  I'm buckleing down.

A half marathon.... That is so exciting!!! Have you signed up for one yet? I love them.

I agree with TerosX, you might want to build some specificity into your goals, along with different grades based on performance. Ex., A = Run 3 times a week with a scheduled long run, B = run 3 times a week, C = 2 Runs, F = Lol I totally forgot.

Thanks for the pointers guys!!

I was doing the BBWW like 2/3 times a week for a few weeks, then started throwing a run in here and there. I figured because my runs (more like jogs) are really chilled out (like 3 miles in 30 min) and I don't really ache the next day that this amount of exercise was ok.

Maybe I should push it back to 4/5 times a week? I feel like i'd be being lazy!

I like the idea of grading primeval!!

Super healthy meal = normal sized portion with plenty of fruit/vegetables and a lean protein.

I haven't signed up for a run yet, I have no idea when i'll be able to run more than 3 miles without feeling like I'm going to die ><

How's the running going? Three times a week has worked for me, another three if you cross-train, and a mandatory rest day a week are a great recipe, you can start with two days rest and build from there

It takes a couple weeks to gauge how you feel.  Just go by what feels right. Or, dial it back and have any other exercises be 'bonus' workouts.  That way you don't feel obligated, but if you feel energetic that week; you can do more.

I do something like that with my sledgehammer workout.  I have a 'base' workout or a few exercises, and then a 'free mode' which is just whatever I feel like doing as extra bonus exercise.  Maybe something like that until you get the feel right of what you can handle would work best.

Yeah, thats exactly what I’m doing. So, gona keep the BBWW 3 times a week and have running twice a week. Anything over that is amazing, but less pressure that way. I'm doing this long term anyway, so there’s no rush to do it all right now.

This is such a good way to structure goals. Really good advice.

That's a great attitude to have. :) Hope the schedule's going well. Keep up the good work!

Hi, I just found your thread! I'm a normal weight unfit/average person too, and doing something similar -- my first challenge with three runs a week and three bodyweight workouts a week.

I've found logging my workouts are really useful as I can quantify my progress and adjust my strategy if necessary!

Good luck with your challenge!

Thanks, my challenge is coming along nicely. You can read my challenge thread which is my signature. You inspired me to try run/jog more quickly yesterday, but try as I might I could only run 4km in 30 minutes. That's 2.5 miles for you, so I'd say you're doing much better than me on running already! 5km in 30 minutes is my new goal now, and you're my motivation!

We can improve! Aza aza fighting! :D

omg, me an inspiration?! thats seriously the nicest compliment! if you use the runkeeper app, you should add me and we can push each other on :D

i looked at your thread and you are nailing it with the BBW. i like how you’ve added new parts to it and it literally never occurred to me to use a backpack for squats. When i’m ready I’m definitely going to be getting some advice from you!

THIS WEEKS UPDATE:

20th-26th Jan

3/3 BBWW (20 sec plank, 6 push ups, 4 knee push ups)

2/2 Runs (3.2 miles- and 3.4 miles)

6/7 Daily healthy meal.

Turns out, I suck at eating healthy when I'm hung over.

I also don't think I've been taking healthy eating seriously enough, so I'm going to stick with my original goal of one healthy meal per day, but make a conscious effort to try make better choices.

Sounds like you're on the right path.

For the eating healthy have you seen anything on eating primal yet? I've been eating primal for about 3 weeks now and I certainly have more energy for sports and training.

Steve links quite a few of his articles with a guy called Mark Sisson's (Marks Daily Apple - Primal Blueprint). If you haven't made the change to being a fat burning beast, take a look it might help!!

Keep up the great work :nevreness:

I'm using strava at the moment, but I'm still trying out the apps. I'll try runkeeper too and if I decide to really use it we can be friends and motivate each other! :)

Good work on your challenge!

I just came across your post today while looking for others who are trying to do a mix of BBWW and Running. It looks like your goals are pretty similar to mine!

I've been using RunKeeper and I really like it. Much better than Nike+ for me (although both are very good). Anyone who wants to add me there is free to, I don't yet have any friends using RunKeeper.

Good Luck with everything. Have you given any thought to what class a workout like yours will put you in?

Add me!! i need serious accountability. It's too easy for me not to run (as this week has told me)!

I haven't yet looked at eating primal.. I'm just trying to eat healthy first and then maybe, some day, I'll get there.

The more you plan meals ahead, the better.  Ex:

This is beautiful organisation. I wish I could be this structured. Although, the last few days I have been planning and pre making my breakfasts, as this was usually my biggest fail, where I would run out of time in the morning and run out the door with nothing to take to work (I eat at work).

WEEK 2 UPDATE

27th - 2nd Feb

3/3 BBWW (20 sec plank, 6 push ups, 4 knee push ups)

1/2 Runs (3.7 miles)

6/7 Daily healthy meal.

I missed my run, partly because I was achy. But mostly because I suck. It serves me right that now the weather is -4C.

Also, I got a tiny bit better with eating healthy, but still managed to have a whole day where I didn't eat one healthy meal!

The BBWW is getting stagnant, I will add some extras this week.

I want this week to be a fully completed week!!
