Log:

 

Food

Breaktfast: 1/2 a banana + coffee (got up late)

Lunch: 1 slice leftover healthy meatloaf, leftover veggie mix (sauteed summer squash, onion, and peapods)

Dinner: Red-braised haddock, a DELICIOUS and light Chinese recipe that my family loves. Also called Hong Shao Yu.

 

Net Calories: ~1900.

 

Exercise:

None today. I have a huge 3 hr dance rehearsal tomorrow (I'm a lead in a local musical).

Today I was faced with a super huge temptation- the church potluck... There were literally 17 different desserts.

I cheated. Of course I did. But I will say, I made SIGNIFICANTLY better choices that I would have in the past. For lunch, I chose the pesto quinoa, the vegetarian sweet potato chili, and a salad with vinaigrette. Yes. I had a small brownie and a piece of caramel bread pudding. It was amazing.

Last month, I would have had the pizza and the cornbread and cake and some pie...

I did better. So... I don't feel good about these choices, but I'm trying to not feel too guilty. That doesn't undo it!

Way to go!!! Potlucks are a serious test of will power. Especially when there are 5 different italian dishes full of carbs and you now that you can only have a small portion of one TOPS!!! Keep kicking some ass!!! :pirate:

My muscles are killing me after yesterday's mini-workout... Apparently it was quite effective!

Also: I've lost 2 more pounds, for a total loss of 7lbs! 

Today was good. Sore, but sedentary at the office. I ate quite well, with my scrambled egg and veggie leftovers serving as my lunch. Yum.

Oh! And I got an interview! I'm currently working at a cool company, but as an intern. I have a master's degree on education! It may turn into a Ft gig, but still... Anyway, the job is as an academic advisor at a local college, and I'm psyched!

Food:

- Breakfast: 2 hard-boiled eggs, dijon mustard (155 cal)

- Lunch: 1/2 Whole wheat thin crust roast veggie pizza, spinach and goat cheese salad, plus a couple of fries from mom's plate! (835 calories, fries included).

- Dinner: beef with broccoli, homemade (~500 calories).

 

Total: 1490. I am so far under my goal! It's so weird that with healthy meals, I am not eating enough. I've been having a sort of post-dinner meal, as I get hungry at about 9. Usually about 200-300 calories... But even then, I'm barely scraping 1800, and my target is theoretically supposed to be closer to 2400. Ugh. I'm confused by the science of all of this.

I decided to turn my garage into a pseudo-gym today! I plugged into my "Zombies, Run!" app with headphones and got to town. Dialogue? I'm jogging or walking briskly up and down the driveway. Music from my "Zombies" playlist (includes Beyonce, among others)? I'm dancing or doing calisthenics. Only downside is that the garage is filthy with slush, salt, and mud, so I didn't get down on the floor. But, I worked out quite hard. My pulse after my cooldown was 144, which means it was in the 150's during the workout. Go me! 25 minutes in all, which means I can push hard and sustain that level throughout. I believe the missions get longer as you go, which is great.

I had a milestone today! I'm still pretty slow on the treadmill (averaging about 20:00m per hour). But today I decided to up the pace. I decided that I was GOING to get under 19:00, no matter what. I had a crick in my side, and my shoes started to chafe, but damnint, I would persevere. And I finished my 30 minute treadmill rock-out at a 18:30 pace! Woohoo!

Today I used my garage as a gym. I did 34 minutes of laps around the space (with my "Zombies, Run!" app, of course). Ended up at about 2.4 miles an hour when I averaged it later (ZR tracks strides per minute). Much slower than yesterday, but it was 20 degrees out and I didn't have any way to gauge my speed in real time.


Then I came inside and did my strength portion. I found my brother's old 5lb dumbbell and after doing some research on proper form, I tried it out! I did a circuit, following these exercises around 4 times (alternating arms. so 10 right, 10 left of each)


 


10 bicep curls


10 front raises


10 hammer curls


10 lateral raises


10 shoulder presses


10 triceps kickbacks


--- 4 sets through ---


 


I'M TIRED OUT! But since the weight was low, I definitely don't feel like I overdid it. I have very little upper body strength atm, but I can feel myself improving!

I had a huge success today. 


First off, it's my birthday (!), so I wasn't even planning on hitting the gym. My mother was going anyway, so I thought, "Meh, I'll do a lighter workout since I hit it hard yesterday". Hah. I don't know how to keep it light. I had two major breakthroughs.

1) I have NEVER done 2 miles before. I've walked slowly for longer on trails... but pushed myself on the treadmill? No way. 1.5 was previous high, and that was just 2 days ago.


2) I maintained a pace of 19:21 for 2+ miles, when my previous pace for 1 mile was 20:30. This INCLUDES my 2mph warm up and cool down. I estimate my actual workout pace to be around 18:00. 


3) I got up to 3.9 on the treadmill. My previous fastest pace was 3.5

Today was.. a fucked up day.

 

This morning, I left for work 10 minutes early to get gas. The school bus in front of me stopped short, and I slid on ice and hit the back of it at about 20 miles per hour. My poor little Hyundai is essentially destroyed, and I don't have insurance on my own car if it was my fault (It's called collision coverage, I think). I will hear by tomorrow what the estimate is, but it is probably totaled. Ugh. GREAT START TO MY DAY AND HAPPY DAY AFTER BIRTHDAY TO ME.

 

But then, this afternoon, I got a job offer from the interview I went on yesterday. It pays well, has full benefits, and I think I will REALLY enjoy the work. SO THIS IS AN AWESOME END TO MY DAY AND HAPPY DAY AFTER BIRTHDAY TO ME.

 

My brain is a confused mix of emotions and is basically an exhausted mess.

Had a pretty good day today. I did a very leg-strengthening heavy version of my work out for "Zombies, Run!", which involved lots of mini-squats, high-knees, and kicks. Felt good!

 

I'm also really loving smoothie-ing. My creation today was kale, 1 carrot, 5 strawberries, 1/2 banana, 1 clementine, 1 oz silken tofu, 1/4 cup water. It is delicious and pulpy and taste like healthy-green-deliciousness. I'm really loving kale lately. And we had BRUSSELS SPROUTS WITH DINNER! Yessss.

Had another delicious smoothie today. I tried adding my mom's protein powder (she had weightloss surgery (very successfully!), and needed to take excess protein). 

I used:

2 scoops of whey PP (too much, probably. will do a 1/2 serving next time)

1/2 banana

1 orange

1 small clementine

1 handful baby spinach

1 full (smallish) carrot.

3 cubes of ice

 

It was tasty, but I think it was too whey-y. It was hard to taste all the good fruits and veggies.

 

 

But what I'm really excited about is my new workout plan I created. I was reading through the NF plans, and really liked the Angry Birds and Zombie Survival plans... except that I am too heavy to pull off most of the moves.I can't physically do a plank, as my stomach is in the way. I'm nowhere close to a real pull up or push up. I decided to take these plans, and in true NFstyle, make them my own!

 

It's designed to start with about where I am (Level 1, 1 Star), and advance to somewhere off in the distance!

Day 1 of Zombie Preparedness Training:

 

Push Ups: Level 1, 1 Star (50 knee pushups in 3 sets).

I have a weak upper body! I knew this going in. It's something to improve on.

 

Squats: Level 1, 3 Stars (30 in 2 sets).

So surprised at doing so well on this right off the bat. I will move up to L2 next time.

 

Plank / Variants: No level

Amusingly enough, I couldn't even pull off Level 1. My arms were totally exhausted at this point. I substituted with leg extensions (Lightly braced myself on a doorknob while I extended 1 leg behind me at 90 degrees, alternating each one and holding for 8 beats to my music. It was tiring, and worked different muscles than the squats.

 

I also found a great free pedometer in the App store, so my iPhone becomes a pedometer. Niceee.. I'm at 6,000 so far!

Triceps are a BITCH, man. So are hamstrings. Squats officially SUCK. Or are they awesome, because they are clearly highly effective?

 

 

Anyway, I just got my benefits info for my new gig as an academic advisor for a local college (starting the last week of Feb). Not only do I get really solid health, vision, and dental.... BUT I GET FREE ACCESS TO THE GYM. I'M SO EXCITED. It's described as being 5500 sq feet with a cardio equipment, free weights, and a rock climbing wall... YESSSS...

 

But the best part? I GET FREE TUITION. MY NERDLINESS IS SO STOKED. SECOND MASTERS, PLEASE.
