Played tennis for an hour, hitting ball. My forehand keeps improving. Feels better.

 

I guess Friday was all rainy, and Saturday was a bike ride all day.

Played tennis for an hour with a club's hitter - so I can hit as hard as I can hit. 

 

the hitter is the one said to me stay a bit more back from the baseline, and he said afterward that my forehand is much better. 

I notice that I am starting to feel natural about swinging.

 

Afterward, I did a mini workout in the club house

 

Lunge 2x10

Pull up: 3, 6, 5, 4

Chair dip: 3x10

Single hand push up: L/R 2x6, decline push up 10

Single hand BW row: L/R 2x5

 

It wasn't the best ever, but did dips, single hand push and pull. So, not that bad either.

Didn't feel like playing tennis but went to the club and banged the ball for 90 minutes.

I'm a certifiable tennis junkie.

 

Forehand continues to improve but I still have a lot of work to do in the areas of shot length.

BW workout at Flynn Park

 

I went to the park by the bike. (there for back by the bike)

It's a good warm up and cool off.

 

After some dynamic stretch of legs, upper body and incline push ups.

 

Pull up: 6, 4, 3, 3, Chin up 6,  Natural hand 6, 5

BW Dip (assisted): 3x10

BW row: 3x10, 7

Core: crunch 4x10, leg raise 2x10, 

Decline push up: 10

 

Sun was setting, and bugs were attacking me so it's more like a circuit training than strength training.

After brief leg, shoulder and upper body stretch, hopped back on the bike to home.

Arlington Town Tennis Open.

Lost in first round 1-6, 1-6

The guy played was way too good. He is prob. 6' 3-4", and half my age.

 

I need to practice high fore/back hand returns to deal with kick serve. 

I need to assess many other parts of my game.

Played tennis for 30 minutes with the club's hitter. It started raining in the middle so we had to stop.

 

Did a club house BW workout. 

 

Pull up (I do this hanging down from stairs) 4, 4, 4, 6, 3

BW row (I do this with a treadmill rails): Underhand 10, 5,  Natural hand: 10, 10, single hand 3, 3,

BW dip(with the treadmill) : 6, 4, 4, 3

Single leg squat assisted: L/R 2x10

Core: Sit up 2x10, Leg raise 2x10, Bicycle kick 2x20 

Decline pushup: 3x10, diamond 3, 4

Played tennis 2 sets with JL. 1-6, 6-7!

 

Woohoo!

I not only didn't get any bagels, I pushed the 2nd set to the tie breaker!

 

Both forehand and backhand still needs a lot of mechanical improvements but it's getting better.

I had two clean winners off of my backhand, and I had a clean passing shot from forehand and I knew I hit it well.

There are a few good forehands to win points too.

Push up: Incline single hand: L/R 5, Decline 10

Press: 10

2014-07-17 Thu (Part 2)

 

Played tennis for 1+ hours, again with JL! I'm lucky.

This time, we just hit balls.

 

I'm getting more comfortable with letting racquet do the work. As such, I'm hitting better.

 

After that, I did another 20 BW rows using treadmill for the mini, and 10 diamond push ups.

For the mini in morning

 

Natural hand pull up: 3x5

 

BW row under the desk: 12

 

Chin ups: 8, 6, 6

 

In the evening, I went to play tennis. 

Played 2 sets with big al. 6-1, 6-4 

I had a couple of good shots and bad shots from forehand. 

Backhand - I need to learn hitting high ball.

Serve was about average. 2 aces and a few double faults.

I stopped at the exercise park, and I did a few dips, pull ups, cores.

But, I HAD TO RUN AWAY QUICK because of so many bug bites.

Played tennis for 90 minutes with Paul. I hit a lot of balls.

My forehand continues to improve. 45 degree ish open stance allowed me to transfer the weight smoothly and lay the wood.

 

I tried a new demo racquet Wilson Steam 99LS. It's a fine racquet but it's a little too light for me.

Strangely, it plays better with flatter stroke.

 

PLP day 5 completed in the morning. For whatever reason, even 5 push ups were difficult.

Played tennis with 3rd best player at the club. 2-6, 2-6.

I definitely could have played better. Forehand was a little off. Serve was okay. 

 

I stopped at Ed Burns park for BW exercise.

Played tennis with angry bird. 4-6 2-0.

What I noticed - Forehand is still muddy. I have to think how to hit balls. 

OTOH, when it comes naturally, I can hit effective shot.

Played tennis with Big Al. 6-1 6-1

After playing a couple of good players, tennis becomes easy.

 

I don't have to be precise with the serve. I don't have any pressure. Instead of going for difficult shot, I can hit percentage shot and know I can win most points.

Played tennis with a new member. 3-3 but he started cramping calf, and stopped.

Played tennis for an hour with a hitter. 

 

New discovery on forehand - shorter backswing and drive the body/racquet with legs. It makes a lot more pace with better control.

If I can stick with it, it will be tremendous improvement.
