Jacob's Challenge

Recommended Posts

Ok, so this time I don't really have a Diet goal, other than to keep on the Primal, but that's not challenging, it's pretty easy. The hard part is during the down week between challenges, I let myself cheat too easily. I want to allow cheating, but I need to balance it; only sugar and real bread every once in a while maybe. HFCS and fake stuff needs to be "no always".

So, my new diet cheating rule is: once a month sugared (non-HFCS) soda, once a a month additional cheat (rice, bread, etc) No HFCS ever.

This month, I want to focus on running; I know it's not efficient, but I feel good doing it, and I'd like to work up to a 5k in the fall, the first one locally done in my town. Also, pull-ups. I can do a decent amount of push-ups, and though I'd like to get more awesome at those (handstand push-ups are my end-goal), I need to get good at pull-ups for the base of of be able to save your own life.

ok, Goals:

Fitness: 2x week: Interval sprints. 1x week: jog for distance. 3x week: Twenty Pull-up Challenge.

After pull-ups, push-ups x10, working on getting my feet as high as possible -- currently at ~2ft high.

Weight: Get below 200 lbs. Currently ~210 (208-212 daily).

To do this, I'm following Neanderthin's guidelines - look under 'Phases of Weight Loss', 'Close to Optimal Weight'. Cut my nut-fats down, and allow greater intake of fruits. Focusing on caloric intake w/o starving is hard, but I've found that the $1.50 1 lb bag of baby carrots lasts me for days of driving-snacking, and is negligible on calories, unlike the couple handfuls of almonds taht would go as far.

Numbers, 06/07:

Body Fat %: 14mm, 16.4%

Waist @ belly button: 38"

Waist @ pants: 36.5"

Right Thigh (at crotch, relaxed, propped up): 25.5"

Right bicep (relaxed, hanging loose): 12.25"

Chest Circumference (relaxed, exhaled): 40.5"

Weight: 204 this morning; 201.5 best this week.

So, I didn't update, like at all. That's one of my goals for the next one.

Body fat % stayed the same, but I think that's my measurement method as much as anything. I know I didn't lose muscle, though I don't think I gained much either.

Moderate improvements in waist. I have a bit more fat to lose on the belly, but not much on the pantswaist.

Not sure if the other numbers changing are good or bad. Chest I'll call good, since I know I didn't lose muscle there, so I assume I lost some of my vestigial moob...

I'm giving myself a C.

I accomplished my fitness goal:

I'm working well on pullups, though I'm more than day-for-day on the Pullup Challenge; after the Pushup Challenge, I kind of expected that.

I'm currently at picnic table height on pushups, about 40-42".

Weight Goal:

I've been riding around 202 lbs; I hit 201.5 once, but didn't quite shake it down to 199...

Though not an explicit goal, I'm marking down because I cheated quite a few times, though most of them were pre-planned.

Whataburger's Honey BBQ Chicken Sandwich was an allure I could not resist.
