Mission Progress Log

Started Paleo diet for dinner tonight and did as well as possible taking into account the college dining hall environment. Did full three circuits of beginner body circuit workout from main site. Feeling pretty good about the whole thing. Probably going to be sore tomorrow. I will not let college win!

Mission Progress Log

Did Paleo for an entire day to the best of my ability. Also extremely sore from yesterday's workout. I'm starting to get really discouraged. I really don't think Paleo is going to work for me because my school doesn't offer enough food that's even remotely Paleo. I definitely need to diet, but I'm going to have to rethink this. I can plan out parameters pretty well, I believe, but It's going to have to be that. My college is definitely not friendly to Paleo dieters. I'll set down my restrictions tomorrow and stick to those instead. I'm pretty sure my calorie intake for today was a bit low, but I'll be okay for the day. Tomorrow I'll have a better one. Tomorrow will be better. Workout and Quidditch practice shall be fun!

 

Example Restrictions

Eat at least one fruit/veggie with every meal, preferably two

Replace dessert(all but once a week) with fruit

NO excessive bread(basically just bread on sandwiches and as a side dish- no bread by itself)

No more than one plate unless the second plate is a salad

Drink only water and tea(obsessionally) **I do this anyway, so it shouldn't be too hard**

 

 

Note- I think these are my new diet restrictions. Everything in moderation. Let's try again tomorrow!

Mission Progress Log

Apparently, yesterday's log didn't post so I'm gonna give a short summary of what happened- I found that the new diet restrictions work much better for me than paleo, I was still sore from my workout monday, and I had quidditch practice for my workout. Today was my rest day and tomorrow I'll be doing the same workout from Monday since no Quidditch practice. I ate well today, and am sticking to my diet pretty well. If I can keep this up, I'll definitely be able to manage to be able to get and stay healthy!

I live in dorms that don't have kitchens or allow us to have anything to cook with other than a coffee pot and a microwave. And I also can't find a job so I can't really afford other food. I'm doing the Beginner Body Weight Workout on the main nerd fitness page. And I've managed to do pretty well this week. Getting this far without completely breaking down is a huge achievement for me! Workout wise, I also play Quidditch at school(which is a much more intense workout than I though when I started last semester)!

Mission Progress Log

Today I did the workout from Monday. Still kinda difficult! Followed my diet pretty decently today, but I was travelling so I did have one meal out. Got a slightly healthier option than I normally do, so I'm taking baby steps. Tomorrow will be easier because I won't have to eat out. Just make myself healthy/delicious food at my REAL home! I've never stuck this close to a diet/exercise plan before and this is kind of an achievement. Off to bed for my "beauty" sleep!

Mission Progress Log

Definitely forgot to update this weekend, but I was still very careful about eating healthily and such. I did a good job then and today! Today I did the same workout I've been doing, just upped the reps a little. Weighed myself tonight and I think I've lost a couple of pounds this week with eating healthy and working out. I'm really proud of my progress so far! Not just with the little bit of weight I've lost, but with the care that I've followed this diet plan thingie. Yay for me!! Can't wait to see how/ when this starts making a real physical impact on my body

I am terrible at keeping up with things. I'm really able to do this now though, I've been working pretty hard the past couple of days. Let's start this over again!

Mission Progress Log(take 2)

I've started my couch to 5k app, first of all. It's really awesome, and also really feasible. I wasn't sure it was going to be. But I can do it, oddly enough. I don't even mind the running so much either. Weird. But I'm also eating healthier with more fruits and veggies. I found out that having an egg for breakfast leaves me not hungry for the rest of the day, and when I eat healthier, my stomach problems show up less. So that's a plus. Can't wait to really see how this works!

Oh look. I'm back again. Trying for a third time to get this going. Like my actual fitness goals have, I'm hoping this time sticks. Actually, I'm going to make it stick.

 

Some Notes on my Time Away

I almost failed two of my classes in the Fall

School and emotional issues made me completely fall off the wagon and gain another ~12lbs

I changed my major in the Spring and got my emotional and mental state under better control

I do not have the thyroid problem I always suspected I had

My parents, at my request, gave me a FitBit flex for my birthday this year

I got shoes I enjoy running in

I learned to cook

My body hatred has finally diminished, even though my weight hasn't, and I decided that now is the time to make myself into the best self I can be

 

Mission Goals (Long Term)

145lbs or comparable frame (I'll take being over that as long as it's primarily muscle)

Be able to do a push up and a pull up

Run a 5k

Back on the Quidditch team

 

New Gear

Asics running shoes with Duramax so that running isn't painful anymore

Workout clothes (three shorts, one pair of capris, one pair of leggings)

Mission Progress Log

So today I've returned, after a long and miserable almost year, ready to level up my life for real finally. Things are sticking with me and have been for a month or more. But the mindset is different. It's more about being healthy and how important it is rather than the weight. Get healthy and the weight will take care of itself. I've been recording my runs recently and I'm going to add measurements and strength workouts in there as well. I'm planning on spending the rest of the summer working on bodyweight strength workouts and running until I can use the gym at school again. I need the bodyweight training anyway! I've never had any body strength that I can remember and this will be a great time to learn it.

 

I'm ready to make this work!

Yesterday was great in regards to food, and I did the beginner bodyweight workout right and I'm sore all over. As I should be! I also managed to convince my dad (college weightlifter, now a high school soccer coach with triathlon dreams at almost 50) to spend the week I'm at home before classes start teaching me the forms for deadlift, squat lift, and overhead press at the local YMCA with a bar so that I'm not lost when I get back to school!

Very smart.  I'm considering trying to start doing the stronglifts 5x5 stuff, and uncertainty about learning/trying it by myself is something that's taking up extra energy for me.  Very glad you're getting the help you can!

My initial plan was to get some PVC pipe and practice the forms in the mirror, it's fairly cheap! If you've got someone you can ask for help to take photos, you can use the lifting form forum I think.

 

I honestly forgot until last night that my dad lifted weights in college all the time. I kinda wanna get him here on NerdFitness and see what happens.

After taking a complete day off (aside from eating well as normal) yesterday, my poor muscles are still sore. I kept getting jelly legs when I was making dinner! Today I am using a standing desk at work since I'm not good at being completely, perfectly still. I keep moving, and making sure to shift position often enough to keep my muscles warm and moving. I also do smallish leg stretches as I work. It's actually helping me focus a bit better. When I get home tonight will be a short run and/or some yoga and a bath :)

So I did a yoga routine yesterday specifically for sore muscles and it helped so much. I can walk again! Either way, I'm going for a run today and doing the BBWW again on Saturday (Mostly because I'm trying to work around the vaguely unpredictable weather). My eating habits are still looking good and I'm quite proud of myself. Hoping to start doing measurements and such this weekend if I can find a tape measure. Who'd have known they were so hard to find??

Went for a run this evening and it was great! Beat a boss(hill) and ran super far. My DOMS has backed off a ton and I feel perfectly normal now. Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow!

So yesterday I did the BBWW again and while I'm still sore today, I'm not crippled like I was the first time I did the workout. My goal for the day is to go do some barefoot sprints on the Lawn at my school with one of my roommates. My food intake has been good and I'm making sure that I'm eating regularly and not leaving long periods of time between eating to keep my metabolism and blood sugar steady. I drink lots of water and eat good food. Things are still going well and it's a miracle. When I weighed myself yesterday I came in under a milestone! I haven't weighed that little in over 8 months. Things are finally going well and I can't wait to see what else I can do for myself.

My goal to do barefoot sprints was foiled by A Very Potter Musical. However, I wandered around on a walk for a while with one of my roommates and a friend of ours, making it not a totally unproductive day. It wasn't my greatest fitness day overall. I ate more than I should have because I was super upset(though on the up side, overeating now looks SO different than it used to). My parents (who currently live 3 hrs away from my college town where I have an internship this summer), called and told me they had to put our 'old man' kitty down today :/ We've had him for 17 years and I'm going to miss him a lot. I've known him longer than I've known my little sister... But yeah, I was upset and ate more than I should have. But it's okay. Today I will do better, even though I'm going out to eat tonight(a friend wants to meet with me). I'm also going to do BBWW again before seeing my friend so by the time I'll get to her, I'll be at that "I need food but eh" feeling. That way I'll not overeat! Hoping that things work out this week. Not looking forward to posting my body battle stats right after eating out though, but I'm going to post them once a week. No matter what they are.

Mission Progress Log Pt.2 

I basically went through and made a google doc of my eating habits in regards to Paleo. My categories were- not paleo, paleo, could be paleo (like things I could buy fresher or less processed), maybe paleo, and dairy. Hoping to maybe transfer slowly over to at least a somewhat paleo diet. If nothing else, eliminating most extreme processed foods. I'm also planning on perhaps minimizing dairy products throughout it as well. I think I'll start with the things that I can easily switch to being paleo and then work from there.

Had to do an abbreviated BBWW yesterday. I'm pretty sure I was dealing with some muscle exhaustion since anything to do with my legs felt like the muscle was tearing in half. It didn't feel like stiff muscles that needed some work, that's for sure. I'm taking today off too for safety. Tomorrow will be a run and Thursday back to the strength training! Didn't do so well with food yesterday, but at least I didn't gain anything this week. Today will be a better food day and I'll get lots of steps on my FitBit.

Not even a mission progress log. Nothing useful. Just a rant. Because I need to get it out somehow and I really don't know who to talk to.

 

I hate long distance crap.It's only 3 hours but weird schedules make life difficult. I only ever get to text him(which I appreciate, don't get me wrong) and I haven't seen him since the end of June. The worst part is that our anniversary was on the 9th (we've been together for 4 years now), and this is the first time we haven't at least gotten to see each other.  

 

I'm lonely here far from most of my friends and all of my family and boyfriend, and we really rarely get to see each other. It sucks. I'm tired of being sad, I just wish things weren't so ridiculous.

 

Short form: I'm frustrated and so tired of being long distance I could scream. And nothing is changing anytime soon. 

 

So now that you've got that obnoxious slice of my personal life, I end this post.

Mission Progress Log

I did not want to post today. Everything seems to be going wrong. I did horribly with food yesterday, I failed the FitBit challenge I'd been invited to, I ate out again, ect. Plus personal life issues. More of them. Ugh. I couldn't work out yesterday since I had to rest off my overworked muscles. This is one of those days where I wish I could've gone back to bed. Though I doubt I'd have been able to sleep thanks to my electricity being out. Ugh.

Long distance relationships are definitely hard. I know that when my partner and I were living apart, it helped to have some facetime on Skype as often as we could mange. It's not the same as hanging out in person, but it can definitely be fun and can be a good chance to talk about these kinds of frustrations if you like (I'm sure he's also frustrated about not being able to see you).

I wish we could... His family doesn't really have wifi. Also his computer doesn't support skype. Oovoo sometimes works when he's got access to wifi but that's kinda rare. :/
