Mission Progress Log

By the end of yesterday, things had backed off a LOT. I felt a lot better. I also managed to keep my eating pretty healthy. Yay. I also went for a run that was MUCH longer than my normal ones. Unfortunately, my weak ankle and it's brace were flaking out on me so I couldn't run as much as I'd like to. I'm going to keep running that distance (around the same length as a 5k) since 5k's are my goal right now. Today will be the Beginner Bodyweight workout again, hopefully not killing my poor legs. I'll be eating out more today (I owe a friend dinner), but I think I can make it so that it's not as bad as it could be on my end.

Mission Progress Log pt. 2

So the twice a week catering at work is great, and the food is never terrible for you, I just need to be better about eating less of it sometimes. Most of the time I do well, but sometimes I don't. Oh well. Today is just gonna end up being a carb heavy day since I owe my friend dinner and I'll still make sure to do the bodyweight workout. It'll at least keep it so that I don't ruin everything totally. Tomorrow I will eat better.

Yesterday could have been better with food. But I did the Bodyweight workout and I'm not dead for it, just a little stiff. I could do as well as I did the first time again, and I'm starting to get a feel for how much my body can handle and for pushing it to its limits without hurting myself. Hopefully I can figure out how to do more things without hurting myself again. I'm proud of myself for lasting this long, honestly.

Mission Progress Log

Yesterday was pretty good with food. I managed to cook salmon cakes by myself, which was an achievement. I didn't work out since it was my rest day, but I went for a walk and got my steps in on my fitbit. Today my parents came to visit and I ate well for breakfast and lunch, but they took me out to dinner. So dinner was rough but I think I'm going to get my 10000 steps again today. I'm not going to work out today, but tomorrow evening I'm going running and Monday will be Beginner Bodyweight Workkout again.

Mission Progress Log

Ugh. Yesterday was awful. I did a yoga video and went for a walk, which was good, but food wise? Just no. I had a hard day emotionally yesterday which led to me eating what I call "stupid food." That's when I eat stupid amounts of whatever I've got in the house. I haven't done that in months... Oh well. Keep going. Today is a new day and it will be better. I'm going to do the Beginner Bodyweight workout again tonight, and that will definitely be good, and I'll probably go for a walk afterwards to keep my muscles from stiffening up right afterwards. I worked out and went straight to meet a friend somewhere and it helped a ton! Hopefully it will help my muscles continue to work properly.

 

I'm also starting the challenge next week- first challenge! Whoo! I already put together my goals and all the other things to prepare for it, so I'm ready for this!

Mission Progress Log

So yesterday was kinda horrible. I came home to find one of my housemates on the phone with the rental company to tell them that all of the carpet that surrounds anything touching the bathroom was soaked... So our bathroom was out of commission which meant no bathroom, no shower, nothing. So I went into town to get dinner so that I could find a bathroom and ended up getting crappy for me food. Not massive amounts of it, but still. And then I wandered around this bus-accessible shopping center until it got dark. I ended up staying with a friend. So no workout because no shower and no healthy dinner. Lovely. I can't even post my stats because I couldn't weigh myself this morning. I might just skip stats this week because I've done so horribly. Ugh. Today should be somewhat better, I just have to be careful with lunch. 

 

I just want to stop with the completely true bit that when my life falls apart, so does my fitness. I don't want that to be a thing. Even though it has been.

 

On the upside, my FitBit bands came in so my FitBit won't fall out of the band anymore. Plus, this one is a cute purple!

Mission Progress Log

So yesterday was a healthy eating/habit bust too. But less of one than recently. And I did my weigh-in a day late and was pleasantly surprised to find that my weight was down a little. Nice surprise! 5 lbs more until I can STOP focusing so much on weight. Today the plan is a nice healthy lunch and dinner and a run once it starts to get cooler this evening. Doesn't look like it's going to rain and I think the heat will be better as well. Tomorrow will be another go at the BBWW. 

 

 

Ugh, I hope your landlord fixes your bathroom soon.

They did fix it, the final problems were fixed this morning :) One less thing to worry about!

Going to try something different for a workout today- Two circuits of the BBWW and then 20 minute run, trying to do as much actual running as possible. Gonna see where this gets me for a while. I might add another circuit after a little bit if it's too easy :)

Did the workout I decided on yesterday and it was a success! I wasn't much worse off than I usually am running for distance, and I'm going to keep pushing myself as much as I can! I'm a bit sore today, but not insanely so. Yesterday's workout was pretty great honestly, I needed a workout like that after not having worked out for a few days. Yesterday was great in regards to food and today should be pretty good as well. Today I plan to get at least 6000 steps on my Fitbit and also do a yoga routine tonight. Gotta be a flexible Jedi!

Ah DOMS. My friend. You have returned. No yoga yesterday, but I got over 6000 steps on my FitBit. Today I will definitely do yoga, and since I'm going to the grocery store later, I will get plenty of steps. Thanks to an ingenious apple before lunch, I didn't overeat at the catering lunch meeting. Gonna make sure to do a run or something tomorrow as well, then maybe a yoga routine or maybe just a straight rest day before my FIRST 6 week challenge!

 

I've been fighting a plateau in my weight loss the past couple of weeks. I've been stuck in the 159/160 range primarily and haven't been able to get under 159. I think next week I'll start keeping an eye on what I'm eating and see what I've got too much of. It could be fruit, it could be carbs, it could be several things. I'll see what's up at that point.

Still didn't do yoga yesterday. But my food intake was alright. My DOMS is completely gone so I'm not worried about running this evening, and I'm going to do yoga tomorrow. The plan is to get a measuring tape this weekend so that I can take my measurements ASIDE from weight at the beginning of my first 6WC, at the 3 week mark, and at the end. Hopefully I'll have dropped something. Maybe even enough to be back comfortably in 10s. I'm fairly sure I'm not too far off of that, but still.

 

I also think I'm going to limit my fruit intake a bit. I'm not allowed to eat fruit instead of a veggie with dinner, and after lunch they can only be dessert or a snack. That should help some with the weight plateau.

Gone is your DOMS, nice that is. I am eventually going to get a measuring tape and caliper to track measurements/body fat percentage, but for now I'm just focused on losing my gut, which I can just track by looking at my stomach and my weight. Yeah, too much fruit isn't good. I stick to one or two each day, if any. It's usually a banana in the morning.

Gone is your DOMS, nice that is. I am eventually going to get a measuring tape and caliper to track measurements/body fat percentage, but for now I'm just focused on losing my gut, which I can just track by looking at my stomach and my weight. Yeah, too much fruit isn't good. I stick to one or two each day, if any. It's usually a banana in the morning.

I usually have part of an apple in my oatmeal and some sort of fruit with lunch, but sometimes I'll also have one with dinner and I use applesauce for snacks when I'm home sometimes. So I'm gonna try to limit that and eat more veggies!

Yesterday was alright, but I had an awful day and ended up eating a rather alarmingly large number of cookies at the end of the day. Aside from that, it was honestly a decent day for fitness things. 

 

Today will be better, if for no other reason than because I only have a few things to eat -_-

My husband is a pretty decent and highly determined player of the game League of Legends. He used a phrase around me recently that, when he explained it, resonated with me on some frightening levels. Ever heard of a gamer going "on tilt?"

Basically, it's when things are going downhill and you let it get into your head. It affects your mood and your performance, frustrating you to the point where you sabotage yourself.

 

This is me with my eating right now.

 

I'm frustrated, I'm scared, and I'm just done. I live with my brain constantly in overdrive because of food. That's not how it should be. I spend so much of my life just obsessed with whether the food I've just eaten was "good" or "bad" and whether that makes me good or bad. So I'm going to re-teach myself intuitive eating. I say re-teach because it's the way we eat as kids "am I hungry? What I am I hungry for? Okay I'm gonna eat that" Sounds easy, but really isn't. Once I've got that under my belt, I'll look into maybe trying to work on other things.

 

So Intuitive Eating has 10 principles that I've been trying to introduce into my life. You can read more about each one here.

 

1. Reject the Diet Mentality 

This one is something that is highly in line with NF principles. It's somewhat easy for me, but somewhat hard. They ask you to reject the smallest hope that any "diet" can work. I've been thinking like that thanks to NF for a while! This one won't be a hard one for me.

 

2. Honor Your Hunger 

Okay so this one will be a little harder. I was told when I was a teenager that if you had eaten "too much" or if you'd already eaten a meal or anything similar, that it's okay and encouraged to be hungry. That being hungry means that your body is feeding off of the fat and cellulite in your body. I don't know if that's true, but I do know that I can't live like that. When I don't eat, I get crabby and annoyed and angry. I am significantly more likely to binge. I don't focus very well. So I just need to learn that if I'm hungry, I should eat. End of story. 

 

3. Make Peace with Food 

So this one is a very hard one. The core of this principle is "You have unconditional permission to eat whatever foods you choose." Because if you have something completely forbidden, then you're more likely to eat it and eat it like it's going out of style. Not helpful. But I have certain things engrained in my brain as "bad" and "good" and that's not really correct. It's not about "bad" and "good" from a moral perspective. It's about "how do I feel after eating this?" But to get to the second one, I have to break out of the first one.

 

4. Challenge the Food Police 

Related to number three. That's the voice in my head that says "you're a bad person if you eat those goldfish crackers." It needs to go somewhere.

 

5. Respect Your Fullness 

No more eating until I'm about to pop. Or at least not constantly! Learning what it feels like to be full and not feeling obligated to eat beyond that feeling. That's another goal.

 

6. Discover the Satisfaction Factor 

This one was cool. Learning how to enjoy your food, every bite. Basically mindful eating.  Not eating constantly distracted.

 

7. Honor Your Feelings Without Using Food 

Focus on the reason why you want to eat an entire bag of goldfish crackers and try attacking that rather than eating that entire bag of goldfish crackers.

 

8. Respect Your Body 

Basically self-love, the most difficult thing in existence for me. I absolutely hate my body. Absolutely hate it. All I can see when I look at it is fat and problems.

 

9. Exercise–Feel the Difference 

Just moving your body, finding something that makes you happy. I'm still looking for my thing that makes me happy.

 

10 Honor Your Health–Gentle Nutrition 

Don't kill yourself following rules. Be forgiving.

I think I'm doing alright about making my peace with food. It's really a relief! Before I talk about my success, I want to establish some naming conventions! My husband is (not actually) James Potter ;) and we have a friend who lives with us temporarily who, on the forums at least, we're going to call Sirius. Our relationship is very James/Lily/Sirius and it's kinda funny honestly. 

 

So Sirius and James got haircuts yesterday. Afterwards, we walked past the Ben and Jerry's and we decided to get ice cream (tbh I was the one who wanted some). I ate it and I didn't beat myself up over it! Gah. It was great :) 

 

This morning was super stressful. Our doggo had to go to the vet for some unpleasant issues and there's some financial unpleasantness that's going to come out of that. But I get paid again very soon. Very soon indeed. And we can make it work, but it's very stressful. I'm not really sure how to handle this. I don't want to stress binge because I won't feel very good about it for a multitude of reasons. But I also don't want to make more stress on myself for fighting it. Not sure.

Being free to eat the things I wanna eat to figure out what my body does and doesn't like has taught me a few things already!

 

1) my probiotics are always gonna be necessary because I've got some weird gut issues

 

2) too much salt gives me mouth sores >_>

 

3) when I have too much salt my body craves sweets

 

4) when I get too hungry I get hangry and will eat literally EVERYTHING

 

5) I do eat better differently when I don't eat and read (IE- eat distractedly)

 

6) Ice cream is not satan

9) Having hot cocoa with a smidge of booze during a movie with my "James" and "Sirius" does NOT make me anyone except a person who enjoys a cup of cocoa sometimes

 

10) Feeling more comfortable with food has helped me with ceasing some of my food "rituals" that I always thought were the result of being having tendencies towards ASD. Odd.

So I was tired of using my phone's health app to track my water intake. It had my last weight just sitting there staring at me. Not cool. 

 

However, I was still struggling to drink enough water. 

 

To help, I downloaded plant nanny. This app is so cute :) Like it actually makes me excited to drink water! I'm really bad at taking care of plants, but maybe it's that I can't take care of a plant if I can't take care of myself? I dunno. Following! :D The things you've learned so far sound familiar, for sure. I've been off counting calories for about a month now, and it's taken some time for me to start trusting my body. Keep working on your feelings! Have you tried journaling, with a pen and paper? A journal has been a great tool for me :)

I think I started seriously looking into this a little less than two weeks ago, so I'm learning. Slowly :) I'm still struggling with some problematic feelings but now I'm taking the time to take them out, dissect them, and gently tell myself otherwise. 

 

I actually have a pretty sketchbook that I'm using as a doodley journal! Sometimes I just write, sometimes I doodle, sometimes I do both! It details my food struggles and successes thus far and it's kinda surprising how easy it is once I'm ready to let go of things.

 

I love it :) It's super adorable! Each plant takes a certain number of days to grow I think. Right now I have Devil's Ivy.

 

My intuitive eating book came in- it's super cool! It comes with an applications section and goes into detail about each step and why it's necessary and how best to achieve it.
