Mission: Catch Cheetara

I happen to have come of age to start noticing girls at exactly the time that Thundercats was a big deal, and so this fast and strong gal was probably my first (non-human) crush.  She can hit thirty seconds to the mile, but only for a little while, so I have a chance if I can go the distance.

 

I am signing up for the Scenic City Trail Half Marathon on 26 April 2014.  I have been following a very conservative race training plan based on this one (warning PDF file).  It started very low-mileage for me, but I am choosing slow-but-steady this time because I have developed chronic-use injuries while training for races in the past.

 

1. I will run following the training plan 3x/week and take care of my bodySmall deviations outside of my control will be tolerated.  I will do self-care with stretching and rolling as necessary.

 

2. I will do resistance training 3x/week.  My current plan is a warm-up and then at least three circuit sets:

a. Warm up

i. Windmills

ii. Neck rolls

iii. Burpees

b. Bodyweight Squats -- getting better form before I load weight again

c. Pushups progression.  Current plan:

i. Diamond (can already do 3x15 with good form)

ii. One arm extended, holding dumbbell (trying to get good form)

iii. One arm extended, hand up on a bench (possible next step)

d. Chin ups and variations

e. One arm dumbbell snatch (or snatch and press)

f. Single-leg BW glute bridges or split stance dumbbell deadlift

 

3. I will eat to the plan: six days regular, no more than one day for treats, all mostly following the "paleo" principles in Lean Ape Living.

I will count impulsive eating in servings per day to avoid binging on failure.

Treat day will be pre-planned to fall on a heavy exercise day, preferably one with a long run and resistance training. 

Treat day will not be an excuse to go crazy once per week. 

Six days per week I will:

a. Avoid added sugar, corn syrup, grains (corn, wheat, rice), potatoes, liquid calories, and snacks.  Minimize if not eliminate.

b. Moderate dairy (some cheese, some yogurt), moderate fruit (dried and fresh).

c. Maximize whole vegetables (like spinach, broccoli, bell peppers, carrots, onions, green beans, peas).

Thirty seconds a mile is a tough one, good luck. ;)

Goals look good, though there do seem to be many parts they all seem achievable.

 

The specific goals I am focusing on are what I bolded: 1. run three times per week, 2. resistance training three times per week, 3. avoid impulsive eating (this one is actually less strict than last challenge).

Good luck on your goals; I loved the Thundercats growing up, I have to admit though that I liked playing with the mutants more than I liked playing with the Thundercats, I would actually let my brother have the cats and I would be Mumm-Ra lol

Good luck on your goals; I loved the Thundercats growing up, I have to admit though that I liked playing with the mutants more than I liked playing with the Thundercats, I would actually let my brother have the cats and I would be Mumm-Ra lol

 

I have to admit that I find that disturbing, actually.  I always identified with Lion-O, who now seems like a whiney adolescent (which he was).  Good luck to you too though!

Wow, here you are, in the scouts! Glad to see you are having slow and steady progress toward half marathon training. Maybe this will be the challenge when you finally catch cheetara.

 

If I make it to the starting line in one piece I will know that I have done everything I could, and better than all the other races that I signed up for but failed to run because of illness or injury.

Week 1, Day 1

Monday

 

1. Run to the plan and take care: 0/3.  Plan to run Tuesday eve, Wednesday eve, and Saturday morn (Thursday will be busy)

 

2. Resistance training: 0/3. Plan to work out Tuesday morning, Thurs morn, and Sat morn.

 

3. Impulsive eating this week: 2 servings of madness. 

 

Disappointing start.  Planned badly and had next to no lunch, and dinner was sparse as well.  Also used up a lot of my willpower throughout the workday avoiding looking at or smelling the boxes of doughnuts on the table right next to me at work. 

 

Decided to have a strawberry and protein powder smoothie in the evening to top off before bed.  This by itself would have been rational and fine, but I started grabbing crazy things to throw in like cinnamon graham crackers and a bar of dark chocolate, showing that I had slipped into madness somewhere. 

 

I will do a better job of planning out good meals throughout the day so that I will be fortified against evening insanities.

That is one long, frustrating book that has some of the most beautiful scenes in modern literature.  And she gets faeries right.

 

Man, it's hard to find all my NF friends when there isn't an easy check in place.  I am picturing your smoothie madness, and let me just say I have those days of out of control eating too.  Like maybe I have a little bit of sugar, and then I just want more, and I'm eating stuff I don't even like just because it's sugary.   Today will be better!

 

I just spent a half hour scrolling through the guilds doing the same thing.

 

Even as I was putting those things in the blender, I was composing my excuses to the NF boards.  What a terrible mind-set to be in!

 

Today has been better so far.  Day old doughnuts do not tempt me, andI had a filling breakfast and lunch for today prepared before bed last night to strengthen my resolve. 

 

I want to save my crazy behavior for fun things, not things that are just making me fat and slow.

Exactly! Yeah, it's frustrating but just for the depiction of the Fey as they are in proper mythology as opposed to all cute and friendly is worth the price of entry.
