missrebecca's bringing sexy back

Second challenge of 2014 woot!

Last challenge I learned a lot about myself and my goals, and this challenge I have a very...specific? goal in mind.

I'm bringing back my sexy self!

Now, sexy to me isn't just about what I look like, it's not about tight fitting jeans, short skirts and low cut tops. It's a state of mind that I would really like to get back into. I want to feel comfortable in myself. I want to be happy and goal oriented, I want to feel good in whatever I wear and whatever I'm doing.

Last challenge I ended up falling back into old (very old) thought patterns. I thought of hurting myself, something I haven't done in a very long time, and the only thing that stopped me was the thought that my fiance would see and know. Not because I didn't want to, but because I was worried he would find out. Now I love him, but surely I should not hurt myself because I don't want to. So that's where I want to get to. It might not take 6 weeks, it might take 6 months, but eventually I want to be comfortable in my own self.

How am I going to get there?

  • Focus on my emotional wellbeing - WIS & CHA (2 + 2)
    • I'm going to attempt to get enough sleep at night - I'm going to start taking my 5-HTP capsules on a night again
    • I'm going to make sure I get all my university work done on time - thus lowering stress levels
    • I'm going to take 5 minutes every day for myself, to think about how I felt that day and why and try to come up with strategies to resolve any negative feelings
  • Eat 3 square meals a day - CON (4)
    • I've gotten into the habit of snacking, which is fine except I'm snacking on crap that makes me feel bad! I'm going to attempt to have 3 good meals a day and only snack of good things
  • Have at least 1 protein shake a day - STR (3)
    • I really got into this habit last challenge, but it wasn't everyday. I'm going to try to make a protein shake my mid afternoon snack so I don't crave other bad things
  • Get to the gym 3 times a week - STR + STA (2 + 2)
    • I don't care what I do, I just have to get there, because once there I'm much more likely to actually do something productive
    • This is also useful because my faculty ball is coming up during this challenge and I want to look awesome in my sexy black dress :D

And that's it! Here's hoping I succeed :)

You had me at bringing!

You've got great goals that will help with bringing that confidence back. I've recently reattained it and I walk around with my shirt off at home all the time because I feel way better about myself. Similar goals to yours helped achieve that. Also know that there are plenty of NF'ers here to talk to! We don't want you hurting yourself either!

For your first challenge goal, might I suggest some lightweight journaling? It might help to look back later to see how you were feeling and how it has changed over the course of the challenge. Even coming here and writing a sentence or two about how you are feeling that day and what you've done might be helpful.

I know that if I live too much in my head and don't get it out, I have a hard time being realistic about what happened a week ago, let alone 6 weeks ago.

That's a great idea! It gives you an outlet for your emotions and a way to track them at the same time.

It's definitely something I'd considered. I've never journaled before, but I've seen a few people on here who've said they've found help through writing out their feelings. I think I'll be giving it a go :)

Haha, well I don't think my parents would appreciate me wandering around with my top off, but I get what you mean, and it's definitely where I want to get to. And thank you, I'm just glad that I have enough self awareness to know what's happening and to be able to do something about it :)

I have a similar goal although I think you are a step ahead - I want to figure out what sexy is to me first.

Glad you see the signs before it gets too bad. You are fabulous!

For a while I did something like this. Sitting down for a full on Journal seemed like a daunting task, so instead I made an "Awesome Log". Everyday in my phone I would list 3 things that were awesome. They could be things that I did, that happened to me, that I saw..etc.

Then, whenever I was feeling down, I could open up this note from my phone and see a list of all the positive things that had happened over the last year. Pretty cool!

Aaaaaand thank you for getting an awesome song stuck in my head :P

I think you are approaching this very intelligently, and super kudos for recognizing your warning signs, and dealing with things before they get out of hand - I think that's a great indicator that you've got the right mentality to succeed with all of your goals.

And the importance of sleep cannot be underestimated - very smart goal right there.

You've totally got this, and of course you always have NF for all your virtual support needs :) Good luck!

You feel like taking a stroll around town to get some fresh air and get rid of the queasy feeling that's in the pit of your stomach. There has been talk of small green monsters scampering around at night. Townsfolk are required to keep to themselves and stay in their homes at night. The issue is 'under investigation.'

Yeah, okay.  Last night you overheard a drunk man babbling about 'Surdermuz coming back.'  Whatever that means.

While on your stroll you see a man with a scraggly beard and nearly shoulder-length frizzed hair spouting like a madman.  He's yelling at the local salesmen and you're intrigued.

The man yells, "EVERYONE KNOWS THAT THE EVIL ONE- SODAMUS HAS RETURNED!  HALF THE CALORIES?  0 GRAMS OF TRANS FAT?  THOSE ARE SALES PITCHES BUT ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS LOOK AT THE PRODUCT ITSELF TO SEE IT'S A LIE!  IF ANY OF YOU ARE BRAVE ENOUGH TO GET TO THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM HERE, I WILL BE AT THE ADVENTURER'S TAVERN AT 5 P.M. TONIGHT!"

That was all the man said before the guards grabbed him by the arms and threw him to the ground.

"THEY'RE SODAMUS' MINIONS!  THOSE GREEN RAT-BASTARDS THAT ARE SNAKING AROUND AT NIGHT!"

"Pipe down or you'll get the ax," yelled a guard.  "Off with ya. It's too early to be hitting the pub with your drunken ravings."

"THE TAVERN! TONIGHT! I HAVE PROOF!" the man yelled as he fled.

The man wasn't staggering around or slurring his words. He didn't seem drunk, just really panicked. Maybe you should check out the tavern later...

Thank you :) It's one of the good things about doing a medical based degree and having a high level of self awareness. I know when I'm slipping, I know what the warning signs are, so it's a lot easier to accept and do something about.

Sleep is a major goal for me at the moment, I'm just hoping I succeed :)

Sleep and good food can help so much!  I notice how awful I feel when I am not sleeping and eating bad.  Do you like 5htp?  I am going to get back on them soon, I think they helped my sleep when I used to take them.

I do actually. I've noticed that I sleep deeper when I take them (I just take 1 50mg tab before bed) though sometimes I take 100mg on a morning, if it's obviously going to be a bad day.

Hey missrebecca,

Good luck with your challenge. I am sorry to hear about your emotional well being. I have suffered with depression in my life but can't begin to imagine what you must be going through, looking forward to keep up with you as well as demon slaying with the fanatics!

Thank you very much :) depression sucks, and like Sodamus, it's a demon I'm ready to slay!

I signed up to habitRPG today, and got some habits, dailies and to-do's all programmed in. I'm looking forward to using it and I'm hoping it'll work for me :)

Also sorted out my workout & food diary spreadsheet for this new challenge and made my meal plan for the week. I got really lax with doing them towards the end of the last challenge, hopefully I can keep up with them this time around :D.

I also need to organise time to go to the gym this week. I'm starting a Zumba class with one of my friends on Tuesday and I should have time on Wednesday and Thursday, in between starting revision and a couple of assignments.

*cross fingers* all goes well :D

Good challenge! I totally understand about the emotional well being thing.

Once those destructive thoughts start invading your mind, it's really difficult to stop them. It's very tempting to go back to those thoughts and think to oneself: see, worst come to worst I'll just die. Kind of soothing to think that way for me when I get too stressed, too.

Recognizing that and trying to move on is a very good step! Hope you get through this soon.

Awesome goals! I hope you find that diet and exercise have the same wonderful affects on your depression and anxiety (or whatever) that they've had on my life. While I've gotten away from food journaling myself, in addition to help me lose some weight it also helped me find connections between certain foods and my moods. Best of luck!
