Main Quest

 

In order to continue my assassin training, I must become more stealthy! To accomplish this, my plan is to reduce my body fat composition to 12% by May 2014 through strength training (last measure was 15.5%). I won't be able to get it professionally measure until May, so the 12% is just a ballpark figure. Basically my main quest is along the lines of "look good naked".

Goals:

 

1) If I am to be a good assassin, I need to improve my flexibility so I can easily move from place to place, dodge attacks, etc. My biggest one to improve is my "touch your toes" abilities. I still am feeling the effects of a knee injury I got when I was fifteen. As a result, the leg muscles that I use for movements like touching my toes are a lot weaker than the ones I use for, say, squats. To improve this, I'm simply going to do 15 minutes of whatever that stretch is every day, measuring how far I am from my toes at the beginning and end. 

Total days - 42

 

Stat points awarded if completed:  +2 Dex, +2 Sta

2) For my body recomposition, I want to keep around the same weight I'm at (+/- 7lbs). To do this, my trainer suggested around 2100-2200 calories consumed a day and that has been working for the past two-three weeks. If I start losing weight consistently, I will up it as advised from there. Counting will take place Mon-Fri at the very least, though I will do my best on the weekends.

3) After developing my assassin skills from the previous challenge, I need to keep improving upon them. Thus, here are my plans for this challenge:

 

     a. Continue improving my handstand abilities by practicing them, and/or related skills, for at least five minutes, four    

     days a week (the five days I did from last challenge was really strenuous, going to see how scaling it back goes). My

     current record for time held free standing is about 7 seconds, so we'll see how it improves over these six weeks!  

     Total days - 24

 

Stat points awarded if completed:  +1 Dex, +1 Str

 

     b. Continue improving my pull-up abilities by practicing them, and/or related skills, at least three days a week. Current

     record is 4 in a row, so here's hoping for improvement! Total days - 18

 

Stat points awarded if completed:  +2 Str

Life Quest

 

I've applied to a graduate program in student affairs. My interview is sometime in the next month. The quest is to rock the interview and get accepted.

 

Stat points awarded if completed:   +2 Wis, +1 Cha

I can't touch my toes either. Aaand I blame my knees. I noticed that when warmed up, it's a lot easier (and of course less likely to injure yourself)

 

Yay I'm here!! :D  Yeah after I've warmed up, I can get a bit closer, but still very uncomfortable all around.

Yay! More people are working on the pull ups! What is your plan for working on these? Are you going to do 3 days per week, at however many sets and reps, or are you going to do a GTG style, where you go for high daily volume and just do a pull up or two every time you pass under your pull up bar? I've had a lot of success with the GTG style in the past.

Yay! More people are working on the pull ups! What is your plan for working on these? Are you going to do 3 days per week, at however many sets and reps, or are you going to do a GTG style, where you go for high daily volume and just do a pull up or two every time you pass under your pull up bar? I've had a lot of success with the GTG style in the past.

 

Well right now I know a couple things for sure. On Mondays I do three sets of inverted rows (though I call them Australian pull-ups) as part of my upper body routine, though sometimes I replace the first set with unassisted pull ups to gauge how far I've come. On Saturdays I do three to four sets of pull ups/chin ups assisted by rubber bands. With those I try to get to 8-10 or more reps for the first three and max possible when doing a fourth.

 

The thing I don't know is how I'm going to do the third day. The other days of the week the gym with the pull up bar is taken up by the sports teams at the university I work at, so that's out of the question. I could maybe attempt another day with a set of inverted rows, but I'd rather try to do something like the GTG style if possible. Another problem I run into is that my apartment doesn't have traditional door frames, so the home pull-up bars don't fit or stay up.

 

So as of right now, it seems that an extra set inverted rows is going to be the third day, though I'm open to any other suggestions! :)

Now I need to see YOUR beard! Surely all you need to get a pull-up is a bigger beard right?

So you have access to a pull-up bar twice a week?

 

Here is a picture of my beard at its average length (alas, not quite like the ones in the post). Now for work I am require to keep it more closely trimmed, but I still take great pride in it nonetheless!

Yeah, only twice a week is about it. Though I do have another idea... I once heard of someone putting the bar on the top level of the squat rack and doing pull-ups that way... hmm...

I'd like to say that I'm subbing because we're both working on stretching, handstands and pull-ups, but in all honesty it's because of the Shark with a Beard picture!

Have you looked into getting a doorframe pullup bar thing? I'm using one in my attempts to go from flailing weakly at the bar to actually doing pull ups (about 95% to legit pull up 1 now). Only caveat - do not attempt jump-assisted pullups unless you get one that is screwed into the doorframe. Gravity will find you.

 

And lastly, I am now envious. If I had facial hair at work, it could potentially kill me.

Where do you work? If the "kill" you thing was literal, I'm guessing you work around machinery of some sort?
