Hammlin: Heart Surgery

lol Woot!

So last night I had my second interview for Girls Gone Sporty, where I am the current "Strength Goal Getter" and I got to talk about progress that I am making and how things are going!

If you want to watch it you can!

 My Video here!

It was fun because Laura, the founder let's me talk about other websites and stuff, which a lot of places don't allow, so I got to talk about my Nerd Fitness Academy workouts! (You know, the ones where Staci is trying to kill me?)

Fun times!

I wasn't sure I wanted to spend 20+ minutes watching the whole video, but I decided to listen for a little bit. It was so much fun to listen to, that I had no problem listening to the whole interview!!!

You, my dear lady will get that elusive pull up! I had a goal to do one pull up and I worked on it for months and didn't feel like I was making much progress, UNTIL I started the NFA Get Fit Quick workout. I think by week 4 or 5 I was able to do one pull up and by the end of it I could do 2. Every time pull ups were in the workout (almost every workout, right  :playful: ) I would approach my pull up bar and try one. Then I would continue on with the assisted pull ups for the rest of the workout.

From what I have seen Hammi, you are more than enough. Your NF journey alone is a remarkable and inspirational story.

Then you are here leading the Rangers encouraging us all. Giving us mini challenges that inspire and push us even further.

You dear lady are more than enough. You are AWESOME.

I am glad to have met you here.

Checking in, Things are going well. I feel great, and getting out hiking again has not only lifted my spirits, but has given me a lot of time to think about the things I think about...

Excerpt from the mind journal of "Loving Others Better: My Fight to Tame the Beast Inside":

For some reason that thing that lives inside of me that drives my discontentment finds joy in deciding who in my life is genuine and who is not. I can't trace back to when this started, but I do know that it runs rampant. It takes a few different forms- when someone gives me a compliment and I try to decide what their "end game" is. Are they trying to win me over? Placate me? Patronize me? I don't always know and I frequently err on the side of "they are out to get me."

Not everyone is out to do me in. Not everyone in my life wants to see me fail- maybe it's me that is holding my breath waiting for that to happen? I don't know. But I need to.

So often many of us, myself included, sit around and wait for the bottom to drop out- so a compliment feels like jinx. It doesn't make me feel good. And coming from someone that I already don't trust, they feel like kisses from the enemy.

I don't need enemies, and I'm pretty sure they aren't.

But what does it really, truly matter if they aren't genuine? Since when do I control how others behave?Hint- I don't. Never have never will. So stressing about someone's authenticity is a fruitless endevour.

Today I cling to this- "Those that matter don't mind and those that mind don't matter." Kisses or criticism, today I am being wise in who and what I listen to.

Took a go at some walls around work... specifically an 8' and a 4'.

I didn't get the 8', the video is of my best attempt.

The 4' was an easy jump.

Hammi doesn't jump.

Here you go...

So at Red Rocks (we call is Red Rucks, with all the rucking that we have been doing there) this weekend I hopped half of the 4.5' planters. Turns out they get taller as you go up the amphitheater. That explains a lot.

Reflections this week involved loving those who don't value my time. I really struggle with this and it plays out in a lot of different ways, from people being late to not using the time we have wisely. The key to this one is communication and honesty.

Word.

This past week went well, and culminated with my "do one new thing" part of the challenge! I went rucking in Rocky Mountain National Park (all of you on AllTrails.com can see Calypso Cascades- from the winter parking lot) on 4+ feet of snow with my snow spikes. This hike used so many muscles that I never have to use, and boy were my legs tired! I did this one with 2 bricks!

I was super glad to go, and was happy that I was plenty warm, and just needed to huff and puff a little bit :)

My Reflections this week were very personal. I spent a lot of time on my own self doubt and self loathing, thinking about all the times I always say no to myself. It was timely, since Wicked Pixie sent me "Sexy by Nature" and my sister recommended "Lean In" and both of these have given me a lot to think about the way I feel about myself as well as the way that translates into the way I feel about others.

I'm going to have to Google videos.  I don't understand being able to get your feet out of four-feet deep snow.

Hiking IN FOUR FEET OF SNOW? With bricks? That is some weekend, Hammi! Sounds exhausting, but probably super fun also. :)

Monday check in- last week of the challenge! Huzzah!

This past week was bleh workout wise. I didn't do all of them, rested a lot.

This weekend however was very different. I hiked South Table Mountain with Absidey and her husband and step father in law- and I rucked it with 4 bricks. Started to feel it towards the end, but the worst part was that I had to pee haha. It was a good hike, I got some sun (maybe too much) and I proved to myself how far I can go with my ruck.

Sunday I went to red rocks with friends to ruck some more.

red_rock_amphitheatre.jpg

Climbed to the top, then zig-zagged my way down to the bottom, alternating walking with some sprints (very short). Took a break at the bottom, raced halfway up, then decided to try the tall planters again (see them off to the left). I did it this time!!! These bad boys are my eye level or higher!

At the top we did some calisthenics and then headed out for the day.

When I got home, I took an Epsom salt bath and then went to dinner w Mr Ham and some friends...

Cue the bad music.

Dinner was great but as we were leaving my body started to revolt, and let's just say the outcome wasn't pretty (TMI)

All that to say, today I am back to clean eating as much as I can, so I can figure out what made me so sick.

You're a beast, Hamm. I was wrecked Sunday, and you were out kicking butt! I don't know how you do it, but you do it well! =D

I got some sun too. I'm hiding it with my hair, which is drawing more attention than just rocking the sunburn would. =/

Goal Write Up:

Main Quest: Heart Surgery

1. Train. (+2 DEX +2 STR)
a. Grade: A
b. Details: I can’t believe I completed the 42 day get fit quick plan! I hiked! I Rucked! I’m so pleased!!!
c. +2 DEX +2 STR

2. Fear. (+3 CHA +1 WIS)
a. Grade: A
b. Details: I don’t have anything to say except I surprised myself- especially getting over the planters the last week! OMG! Amazing! My Spartan is in less than a month and I feel really good about it!!!
c. +3 CHA +1 WIS

3. Walk. (+2 DEX +1 CON)

a. Grade: A
b. Details: Happy with all the walking I did. I think it’s habitual enough that I can take it off my radar now. So great!
c. +2 DEX +1 CON

4. Love. (+1 CON +3 STR)
a. Grade: A
b. Details: Sometimes it’s really hard to admit that our discontentment is mostly our own doing. I struggle a lot with my reactions to those around me and my trust in myself. The whole challenge culminated with a moving lesson in being enough and then being put to the test- do I really believe that I am? The options were to trust and to step up, or to say I’m not able and back out. Yesterday, I finished on my feet.
c. +1 CON + 3 STR

Further explanation:

I had a really great challenge, I think because I didn’t think about the actual challenge very much. I just took things one day at a time, one step at a time. Next challenge ramps up with training for Spartan and GORUCK!

Other notables from this challenge:

- I committed to getting back to clean eating, less just gluten free items. That needs to be my bare minimum, not my standard.

- I got some stressful financial issues out of the way and now can breathe a little easier.

- Hiking season is upon us. YES. I have taken quite a few hikes already and can’t wait for the snow to melt so we can get a bit higher!

OVERALL GRADE: A

My total points are: 15

HAMMLIN's NEW STATS:

Strength (STR): 34
Dexterity (DEX): 32.25
Stamina (STA): 23
Constitution (CON): 26.5
