tenaciousglee
Week 1 Wrap-up Mission 1 - Weigh more - Up and down. Had a pretty light week. I started the challenge at 147 and dropped down to 144 this week. I'm back up a bit after eating semi-poorly this weekend. 7-day average is 145.09, down from 146.6 last Monday. I think I'm going to up my calories to maintenance on my non-training days and I need to try harder to hit my protein numbers every day.Mission 2 - Less body fat - didn't take any measurements, so I'm not sure if I had any change this week.Mission 3 - Work on my weaknesses - I got in 2 pilates workouts this week and one session of suspended chest flyes.Life Mission - For the phone IF, I'm going to shoot for 8a-12p, 1p-5p, and 6p-9p. I was originally thinking just for weekdays, but I waste just as much time at home on the weekends. I get bored easily and just check and check and check my phone for any type of new activity. As for the points, I'm thinking 1 point for every hour I stay off my phone. If I follow the schedule above, that's 11 points a day. Starting with Week 2, that's 77 points a week times 5 weeks equal to 385 possible points. So for grading: EDITED SCORING:A = 350-385 points (90%)B = 300-349 points (80%)C = 270-299 points (70%)D = 231-269 points (60%)F = 230 points or fewer (<60%) Two other steps I took this weekend were to put a passcode on the lock screen to add a little pause before I log on and I bought a Kindle. I have several books on my phone and this way I can still read them without the accompanying temptation/distraction. Of course, I almost got the Kindle Fire because it was only $5 more and then I could also do movies/TV for the kids, but I realized I would probably just end up switching from staring at my phone to staring at my tablet... tenaciousglee
Stupid phone addiction!! I got my 11 points today, but found myself thinking about checking way more than I expected. My next plan is to track which apps/sites I use most and come up with some alternate habits to do when I am tempted to hop on my phone. Any ideas? Also, is my grading scale too strict? I'm trying to balance striving for compliance with allowing for some grace. Librarian of Doom
I usually got with a standard grading scale, with 90-100% being an A, 80-89% being a B, and so on. For me, expecting 100% compliance with something is unreasonable, and makes me more likely to throw in the towel when I "fail" once or twice. But that's me. I don't know how your brain reacts to things like that. Hobbit Ranger seeking balance (and cookies) Current Challenge Link to comment
Phayze
I agree, man, don't get lost in some quixotic quest for perfection - it's just not fair, and makes it too eAsy focus on the negative side. Mikroftt
I would agree with the comments above with one exception. If you goal is a one time thing, like mine of building a standing desk, then it is a pass/fail scenario. But given that cell phone usage happens every day, some grace can be afforded to get an A. I have heard that people have issues sometimes with bulking up since it requires eating more than you are used to. Keep up the good work! Link to comment

tenaciousglee
Busy week at work coupled with trying to stay off my phone results in not a lot of updates. So far this week, I've gotten in my EtA workouts, though I cut Tuesday's short; fell asleep on the couch after putting the kids to bed last night and didn't get a Pilates workout in. No weight gain. Need to mindfully up my calories and really focus on lots of protein. 3 for 3 on iPhone IF through Wednesday. 33 Points. Week 2 Wrap-upGoal 1 - Gain weight - 7-day average is 145.34#, still down 1 pound from the start of the challenge. I added a couple hundred calories to my daily goal.Goal 2 - Lose body fat - still no measurements. Will check at the end of this week.Goal 3 - Work on my lagging features - No progress. Meant to do Pilates on Wed, Sat, Sun and just didn't. Spent Sat/Sun tiling my bathroom floor, so I have a bit of an excuse, but I don't want to make excuses. 3/18 sessions.Goal 4 - iPhone addiction - 72 out of 77 possible points last week. Not bad. I need to re-assess my fasting time for Sat/Sun. May need to adjust the weekend hours. Last week of Phase 3 of Engineering the Alpha. tenaciousglee
Pretty good day yesterday. In order to up my calories, I had to include some apple cobbler and half a doughnut! Did great on the iPhone up until about 8:30. Ended up playing a game while I waited for my daughter to get ready for bedtime stories. Workouts have been good, but I skipped this morning. I had a breakfast meeting before work and could have gotten up half an hour earlier, but elected to sleep in. I may make it up tomorrow or just be okay with 3 this week instead of 4. tenaciousglee
Stayed up till midnight last night, so no 5 AM make-up workout for me. I was grouting my bathroom floor until 11 and had to stay up to make sure it was drying okay, so I watched last week's Agents of Shield. Good stuff! I was on my hands and knees for a good bit while grouting, but I don't think I engaged my abs enough to count it as a core workout. Also got 10/11 points on the iPhone challenge. tenaciousglee
Haha. Bathroom remodels are fun! (though that's mostly the tearing-down-old-tile part) Good progress on the iPhone challenge! Question: what are you doing instead of messing around on your phone? My remodel started with noticing some water damage under the toilet. Pulled up the toilet to survey the damage and ended up pulling out half the floor due to water damage, including part of one joist. Then decided to pull up the rest of the hardwood and switch to tile. Luckily, the friend I called to help with the tile did a ton of the work and I was just his go-fer. I did the grouting on my own, though. It was a little touch and go, but I think it will turn out all right. As for the iPhone challenge, instead of messing around, I'm getting work done and paying attention to my family. Crazy, right? Turns out I don't need to check Twitter and play Words With Friends multiple times a day!
