fultonator
Day 4 Report: I've decided to re-focus my dietary goal on protein. I've decided to try to eat 70g of protein every day. I went back and looked at my food logs, and I've only hit that goal today and yesterday. Now that I've honed in on this specific part of my diet, I think that will be easier on my head. I will still make a conscious effort to not overdo it on the carbs like I usually do. The rest of my day was pretty much a wash. Not the best personal day or day at work for that matter. I'd planned to do BBWW tonight. I've carved out some time tomorrow instead. Off to bed! RogueWelkin
You may not have to worry too much about the carbs, increasing your protein intake will likely mean that you'd be eating less foods with high-carb content, and the protein should help you feel full for longer, which should cut down on any snacking. The only thing you'll have to keep on the lookout for is any kind of carb trigger, smells, times, places, etc. Otherwise you should be golden, especially if you're still focusing on keeping within a Calorie limit. goodbye_farewell
After a bit of research, I went with the Canon Rebel T3i. Not bad, especially for starting out. Hell my main camera is going on 7 years old. I use to Sony Alpha A700 and love it. Honestly the camera isn't nearly as important as quality lenses. That's where I spend my $$$. My walking around lens is a 28-75mm f/2.8. I have a small sample of my work at wovercast.smugmug.com in case you are interested. Just a couple of weddings. I really need to update it :/ 1 Link to comment

fultonator
Day 5 and 6 Report: There is nothing to report for day 5. I was sick so I didn't use MFP, and I didn't get any workouts in. Today I was back on MFP, but still was short on protein. This really is my achilles' heel! I went grocery shopping today and tried my best to get some higher protein snacks/stuff for my lunches. I also bought a steak for a supper next week. I'm determined, dammit! Did the BBWW today since I missed it yesterday due to being sick. That means I'm only going to get one in this week instead of two. Today was busy with way too many chores, so hoping to go on a hike tomorrow and take some pictures. I have hardly been out this week and I'm going stir crazy! RogueWelkin
If you're still having protein issues, try snacking on just nuts, eating more meats, and try vegetable like avocado and spinach (there's a large list of veggies that have protein, but I don't have it handy 80P) That should help up your protein count. Sea Level
Anyone else ready to swing into spring? YES! Woooooah. Where have I been? Late to the party! Great to see another swing dancer here! You get to go every week? Lucky! Where's your scene? Mine's in Las Vegas, but I live two hours away, so I only make it there about once a month. Just got back from Inspiration Weekend, as you saw on my thread. So much fun. The coolest things, which kind of ties in to your thread, were a class from Jeremy Otth and Laura Keat, and a lecture from Mike Faltesek on listening to the music, and interpreting the music. There was some great stuff about throwing in moves to better follow the music. Laura said everybody's a follow. (I'm a lead). Follows are following the lead, and leads are following the music. Great classes. I'll be looking forward to some more cool moves! Sea Level Vintage Sea-elf Assassin Current Challenge: Sea Level I : RespawnPro Aris et Focis "To the Sea, to the Sea! There are some brands that are organic and free of chemicals and added sugars. I use this one, for example. It is mostly tasteless, so you can mix it with berries and milk to get a nice shake or put it in yoghurt etc. And if you're doing paleo, you can use coconut-milk instead of real milk for the shake. Where's your scene? Mine's in Las Vegas, but I live two hours away, so I only make it there about once a month. My scene's in New Brunswick (Canada). Our swing club got started about 4 years ago and my husband and I have been dancing for I think 2.5 to 3 years. Our club does weekly classes so we do 3 classes every week: 1) The Beginner's class (we go to "help out"... as it's nice to have some good/experienced leads and follows in the mix of people) which teaches basic 6-beat East coast swing. 2) The Beginner #2 class, which starts 8 beat and introduces the swing-out and some charleston and 3) an invite-only Intermediate class. We were so jazzed when we got invited to participate in this class. There are only about 6 of us that go, and we get to experiment with new moves, add variations, work on improvisation.. It's so much fun! I am definitely lucky that my tiny city to 50,000 has such an active swing club! That workshop you went to sounds awesome by the way! I like the "everyone follows" line... that's such a great way to look at it! Thanks so much for the link! I've been considering getting a protein supplement, but honestly I am on a pretty tight budget: I work for a non-profit... so I don't make the mad cash So I'm not sure I can afford to get into the supplement game right now. Plus, my contract is up at the beginning of April and my organization might not have enough funding to keep me on (life in a non-profit!). If I'm lucky enough to find another job that pays decently, I'll definitely be investing a bit more money into my diet and fitness! I had a LOT of peas the other night, and when I put them into MyFitnessPal I was SHOCKED at how much protein I got! I'm definitely planning to make peas a regular part of my suppers! I'm not Paleo, so I can eat everything on that list, although I have been cutting down a bit on potatoes/breads and other starchy things. I'm on board with everything on that list. fultonator
Day 8 report: Made my protein goal! Yay! I was still a lot of work, though. I'm hoping this will become easier by the end of the 6 weeks. Really hoping to make this a lasting habit. Thankfully my ankle was feeling a lot better after messing it up on Sunday, so I was able to go to my swing class. We did 2 hours of dancing. Today (Tuesday), my husband and I are going to trivia/wings night with some friends at a local pub. I won't be having wings, but I'm a bit nervous about what I'll be able to eat. The only healthy options are a veggie stirfry and salads, but those options won't get me to my protein goal for the day. I'm hoping they have a fish option. Wish me luck! RogueWelkin
If you get regular wings without the buffalo sauce they should be passably decent for you. Don't forget about the possibility of doing a burger without the bun (or various other toppings as well), that's been one of my go to meals when eating out, well or Steak...but the burger's are less expensive. If you want to be healthy when eating out your best bet is to start thinking outside the box and not focus on what they say is "healthy", usually it's not as much as one would hope and they tend to cut out a lot of nutrition just to lower the calories. RedCedar
Ahhhh yes, that lovely time of year when you wait around to find out if the grant/funding will come through so you can keep your seasonal position. I know that game well. Life in a non profit can be tough. I've been lucky enough to work mostly for organizations full of passionate, supportive folks working hard to make the world a better place. It's a pretty amazing feeling, but it takes a toll. High stress, typically lower pay. I've seen a lot of social worker friends let their health slip to the bottom of the priorities list. So it's awesome you're bucking that trend and building solid habits for sustainable, long term health and happiness. Have fun at the pub tonight!
