Dawn of the Second Day- 6 weeks Remain

Main Quest:
Build Strength, Endurance, Agility, ...Become a Better Monkey.

Current Stats

Age: 24 (will be 25 by the end of the challenge)

Gender: male

Height: 5’9â€

Weight: 160lbs

1: Do 3 Workouts per week

Day1 and 3
Day 5

I chose these as I am somehow naturally built and I am a bit masochistic when it comes to working out.

Workout session (+5%)

Bonuses:
If I have any energy left over, do a Zuzana Workout. (+1% extra credit)
I love her varied workouts and the fact that they can run you to the ground. (Pre-Nerd Fitness experience)

2: Dedicated Stretching /Yoga

If yoga: either Ekhart Yoga, Zuzana, or a P90X yoga

I need this to help increase my range of motion and reduce the amount of pain I have in my muscles after workouts.

Stretching after a workout (+2%)
Yoga Session (+11%)
Stretching in the morning (+1%)

3: Drink Water!

Because I drink so little I have many issues ranging from skin dryness to the extended muscle soreness and possible blackouts from over exertion. (This is not an issue of drinking water vs something else...I only drink water or...almond milk... but I don't drink enough...like a camel)

Drink 1L (+1%)

Grading System will be points/% based compared to my last so it will be more flexible and less discouraging. (can always get more points rather than focusing on what I have missed.)

I hear ya on the water and muscle pain. If you can get a good cooldown routine going, helps massively.

Waterwise, having a reusable water bottle and keeping it always on hand seems to help. If it's in sight, you drink it. If no water in sight, no reason to drink.

Good luck with your challenges! :D

Ha! I knew your challenge looked familiar, you were already a level 1 before! You were not on my watch list because you didn't detailed your workout, if I knew you were doing BW workouts, I would have checked on you more :/

Have you completed the previous challenge? You can obviously migrate in a guild as you already were a level 1 before.

Thanks for the advice, I try to carry one with me...but they tend wander off... I and beginning to wonder how many homeless water bottles I am the cause of.  I think I just may do better with an IV drip or something lol.

Hi Nuala :) Yeah I this is my second challenge in the level 1's. Before I had been experimenting workouts with my friends until I found something I enjoyed. Looking at my current 3+ workouts (whittled down from 15 choices) I still am a bit...dodgy.

I would like to move on, but I felt that my results from my previous challenge (final grades of FBDD) didn't warrant my passing onto bigger and better things. For that, I still consider myself lvl 0.

I had to laugh at your opening..."become a better monkey" I had images of your goals being swinging from tree to tree...but I digress...good luck with said goals! :)

My middle son did something similar in regards to climbing a tree onto the second story roof of our house when he was about that age and almost giving his mother (that would be me) a heart attack! I also call him my monkey...only person I know that can climb a pole using his bare hands and feet....*smh* he's only had the name for a dozen years though...;)

Updated my grading system so that it encourages improvement (opposed to my old system). Lets see how this challenge goals :)

Well question is: what do you enjoy doing. :D

I enjoy many things, in fact I find it rather comforting seeing in these forums that many others are the same way. :)

In terms of Nerd Fitness Groups:

1:Assassins

(I enjoy every bit of the Assassins, ranging from climbing, gymnastics, parkour, heck...I have even tried juggling and throwing knives in the past)

2:Rangers-Monks-Druids

(Each have an element I like, I like the competition and intensity of Ranger workouts and obstacle courses, I admire the defenses of the Monk, and the Druids have what I need to calm my mind)

3:Warriors-Scouts

(lifting weights up and down and running doesn't really peak my interest, I won't argue with the results though; just not my thing.)

Heh, as an aside, my girlfriend would likely qualify as a scout as when we run, she would just want to zone out and run...She usually gets annoyed as I challenge her to races and between those I would be bouncing off gardening barriers, running on curbs, and seeing if I can jump over "that thing over there"...Hmm...Would sprinting count as scout? I do like sprinting...

Anyway... Looking forward to the challenge :)

Good goals. Easy to measure your progress and not super aggressive in terms of difficulty.

A bit of all the things. Truthfully, it's hard to chose a guild because everything looks so awesome and fun to do! I hear you on the "graduating feeling" that you may, or may not have had from last challenge, but the level 1 forum is more here to give you the time to learn how to use the forums, understand what guilds are, how to write down a challenge, what SMART goals are.

If you are at ease with all these concepts, you should jump into a guild, no need to do the tutorial twice, a guild life will teach you many more things and maybe give you the environment you may need to complete a challenge.

Moved as asked by the author from the level 1 forum to the Assassin's forum. And I welcome you with a wall of text!

****This is a semi-automated message from your Robot guild leader.****

Hello and welcome to the assassin guild! I am Nuala and I'm one of your guild leader. First of all, I want to thank you for having chosen our guild as your first one, it makes us really happy and proud. I really hope you will enjoy being with us and that you will find here all the support you need.

First of all

Make sure you fill up this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1scdu8yMffc4-roz5twnonx8BHuvUsVpYN4uskgc4MAQ/viewform

It will make our work easier, allow us to add you to the assassin phonebook and will make you eligible for the Most wanted assassin of the week list.

What you need to know.

Whatever you do, remember that your challenge is your priority. Mini-challenges, guild activities, PVP are not mandatory. They are here for you to have fun, discover new exercises, have some friendly competitions but they must not hinder your progresses. If a mini-challenge seems too overwhelming for you, just don't do it.

Being here with us will give you access to many other not mandatory activities, aka:

- Skill mini-challenge. The skill mini-challenge will start on Monday, February 24 and will last the whole challenge (aka 6 weeks). As the name may suggest, you will be asked to work on a skill over the course of the challenge.

Skill mini-challenge: http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/44945-6-week-long-skill-challenge/

PVP. PVP are competitions started by other members of the rebellion. If you enjoy measuring yourself to other, they may be the right thing for you. So, don't forget to check the PVP forum to find or even make your own PVP! Remember to read the rules though  :)

Suggested PVP:

And probably many others.

What I expect from you!

Consistency, awesomeness and regular updates. One update at the end of the challenge won't do, we want to be able to see you are still here with us. One Update a week is a minimum. More would be even better  :)

Don't stay by yourself. If you want people to follow your thread and support you, you may have to do the same. You will probably find many people who share the same goals as you, go visit their thread, cheer on them and they will probably do the same. And because we are awesome, we already created the Assassin phonebook to help you!

http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/44718-the-assassin-phonebook/

Make sure you subscribe to the announcement thread:

http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/44300-guild-information-and-announcements-subscribe/

And if you don't want to subscribe, make at least sure you read it once a week. It is usually updated on Monday/Tuesday to present the new mini-challenge and Assassin most wanted list.

Don't stay by yourself bis! The assassin's den is open to all, you have funny gifs to share, a story to tell, needs some advices or just want a place to chat? The Assassin's den is the place to go (also, we have parkour corgis, ninja cats and killer sloth)!

http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/44299-assassins-den-general-chat-thread/

What else?

If you have any problems, questions or suggestions for the guild, feel free to send your guild leaders a PM. Also, we are still looking for journalists to work on the weekly most wanted list. The job is quite simple albeit a bit time consuming. PM Apfelstrudi for more details.

Sorry for the wall of text! I wish you luck for this challenge!  :D

Update: finished my first workout and I must say that batman makes it look easy.

I did 3 sets of each of the following:

Assisted one leg roll squats

Side-to-side push ups (on my knees...) maybe i was doing my push-ups wrong...

Leaning Handstand push-ups

Jump pull ups + tuck

Ice cream makers (tucked)

Handstands (back to the wall ~12 seconds each)

I then finished by doing the level 1 mini bridge challenge holding poses to the extent of my flexibility for 30 seconds.

(My girlfriend laughed as camel pose looked like a semi-circle, I knew I had no flexibility in my legs...I guess there is none in my back) This will be my stretching sessions for after my workouts :)

In terms of H20 I am at 1.5L

Using this calculator (found due to Targilnar):

I am:

5'9"

160lbs

Waist - 30"

Hip-38"

Neck - 14"

24% body fat

Fat Mass-38lb

Lean Mass-122lb

Body Category-Fit <_<...Tell that to my heart

We'll see how Batman's second day goes. I may have underestimated the dark knight. O_o

Second workout plus stretching completed...mostly.

I have a new goal for the 6 week challenge. Perform the next level of progression.

Progression completed:

Single leg twist jump + double leg landing

tuck front lever reps (I can't hold them for more than 3 seconds)

tuck german hang (as I learned from the mini-bridge...apparently my back isn't that flexible and I can't seem to do the full range)

Low frog planche...2 seconds...

Performed same mini bridge workout stretching. The hanging cat pose is an issue due to my poor leg flexibility. My version has me at an angle of about 110-120 degrees (opposed to 90 in the picture).

I have been keeping up on my water goal over the past two days +3.5L

If there are any assassin's reading this, I had a question/concern. During my german hang attempts, one of the biggest issues I faced was the fact that I could not breathe during the exercise. I am not sure if it is due to the load or a restriction. Are there any other assassins out there who have faced the same issue and how do you beat it?

PS: how the $#*$@ did Batman do that workout shortly after breaking his back? 0_o

Hows crossfit training going for ya?

Sidenote update:
Apparently I really did work hard...I've got some bruising on my shoulders from the exercise. Whats confusing me is I wonder how come I didn't feel exhausted after nor have l been feeling any soreness? Am I doing something wrong? ( I know its hard to answer that as my workout can't be Seen, but ... l just don't want to Start the Challenge wrong or end up hurting myself on spending 6 weeks making no progress... )

Going pretty well, so far at least. We'll see how it goes once the Open workouts are announced...

Hmmm...bruising but no soreness? I'm no assassin, but that sounds a little off.

Update:

Day 3 workout mostly completed + stretching

All reps of each exercise work completed for 2 circuits opposed to 3. I did this workout with my girlfriend, and she's said "oh my god, where do you find these!?" as she was wincing from trying to do band assisted pull-ups.

Anyway, as the workout was to be timed we completed the 2 circuits in a lengthy 45 mins... then again I was doing the maneuvers with a 4-4 cadence trying to get a nasty strength training workout.

btw this workout I did feel, my quads and bum are sore from the one leg squats. Arms, chest, back, overall core not so much...  :numbness:

Perhaps when I did my weight training (what I m comparing soreness to) I was using to much weight and I am just used to not really being to use my arms after...or I have a feeling my form is faulty. I'll try to have someone watch me next workout (no mirrors).

water wise I got 0.5L in at work, 1L in during my workout, and I am counting eating 80% of a cantaloupe as another 0.5L.

Later today I've got me some yoga to do. I think I'll be going with P90X (P Diddy X as my girlfriends family calls it) :)

I am going to try again next week and see what happens see if a spotter helps. Perhaps is is good that I am not sore for a week like before? I am starting to get the feeling that the bruising was from my workout clothes. I used my high school shirt which is slimming but not so lose. Thinking back to it, when I was doing the german hangs, I think it was getting twisted and digging in with my body weight. That would explain bruising...but not why I have not felt any soreness (aside from my legs now)

If I weren't such a cheapskate, I would probably be trying the crossfit gym in my town. I've wanted to try it since the owner started up in my town (in the same building as my work at the time), but $145 a month is a bit much for my blood although you do get a decent deal out of it...

Yup. Good ole' d2.  I still play. I was on the most recent ladder as a top necro. :)

In case no one has mentioned it yet- you can make a little label for a water bottle with a couple of boxes on it. That way,e very time you finish the bottle and go to refill it, you can make a mark and keep track of how many bottles you drink, and by what point in the day.
