Starpuck: Kicking in the Burn

KICKIN’ IN THE BURN

"So what's your plan here? Personally, I tend to go with what you know. 'Til something better turns up."    --William Adama

It’s time to go back to my NF roots.   Kara “Starbuck†Thrace.   I was late to the BSG bandwagon (and still haven’t finished the series, so no spoilers please) but fell immediately in love with Starbuck.   Here is an amazingly strong woman, loyal to a fault, hard-working and full of grit, and determined to overcome the obstacles in front of her despite struggling with her own demons.   What’s not to love and admire?

I was especially convinced I needed to come back to my BSG themed beginnings when the following exchange occurred on my last challenge thread:

Starpuck: I’ve been asked to join a men’s hockey team, I want to, I think, but I am kind of chicken.

Shadowlion: Go for it!  Starbuck would.

So who’s ready to show up and kick a little ass?

6ypc2v.gif

PRIORITY 1: EATING – Don’t become post New Caprica Lee!

  • Cook Clean – 1x/week or more
  • “Frak It†Meals – 1x/week or less
  • Eat Clean – 80/20 or better *still need a way to track this

4748.imgcache.jpg

PRIORITY 2: EXERCISE – Move it nugget!

tumblr_mbbbutqiUC1qijplgo1_500.gif

  • Target goal of logging 5 sessions total per week, broken down as follows:
  • Strength Sessions – 2x/week
  • Runs – 1x/week
  • +2 additional workouts of any type

SIDE FITNESS GOAL:  Go to the boxing gym 1x/week.  Kara hits the bags, so should you.

thumb.jpg

PRIORITY 3: BUDGET – Limited resources in space, don’t waste them!

  • Track all purchases with Goodbudget App and cut back on spending as follows:
  • Eating out Money $40 or less per week
  • Fun Money $40 or less per week
  • Put $200 into savings each month

INCENTIVE PROGRAM:  Eating out and fun money will be spent only with real, paper bills.   Once the actual envelope is empty, the money is gone for the week.  However!   Left over money goes into my BSG inspired TOP GUN mug.   This is my ‘buy yourself a tablet’ fund, and I will allow myself to make the purchase once I have 50% more than I need in the stein.

SIDE LIFE GOAL:  Purchase the piano book as suggested by ShadowLion and commit to looking at music or art hobbies at least 1x a week.

Schedule Draft *with a note to learn how to be flexible if hiccups occur.

Feb24thChallenge_zpsd2fbc406.jpg

And a little motivation to start the challenge off with!  My all time, most favorite Starbuck video!

Nice work on the calendar and the goals!

On the strength days that are back to back, just make sure they're completely different, like BP or squat, don't do Squat then Deadlift. you'll hate life. (personal experience talking)

Same with the strength day before your hockey tournament.. I'd avoid legs since you'll need them the next days.

also, Subbed.

Starbuck is awesome*. So are these goals.

*Although it did seem to strain credulity a bit when they showed that she was actually the reincarnation of Don Knotts.**

**That's a joke. It didn't happen. Although Don Knotts was basically Chuck Norris crossed with Betty White.

Starbuck: Yeeesss!!!! Yeeessss!!!!! *fist pumps* This is going to be your best challenge yet!

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity:

but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

Thought I ought to let you know that your conversation with Wufkar in your last challenge thread has inspired an accountabilibuddy group. The priority/time/schedule dilemmas have hit me, too, and Wufkar's sage advice got me thinking...

Weee hey Katinka!!!  So good to see you 'round here!

Shadowlion;  I may have to take a peek at that group when I get to work.

Joedog; I've never peeked into the PVP stuff here.  >.>   But I am game for almost anything BSG themed.   Except 'bring your cylon to work day'.  That never goes well.

Ytterbium; yeaaah, Starbuck is the inspiration behind my profile name on this site.   Hee I <3 her.

Chickie; Hai You!

Wufkar; Oh yes, I love me some calendars.   And what's up day 1 having to be flexible already?  Pfft, I got this!

[DAY 1]

Sleep

Last night 6h 4min asleep

You were awake for 11 mins (2x) and restless for 50 mins (17x)

Food

2 HB Eggs, 3 slices bacon at 8:40am

20 almonds, string cheese at 10:35am (because omg hungry)

Kashi Frozen entrée at 12:45pm

Pineapple at 2:30pm

Pumpkin Chili at 4:45pm (before leaving work and heading to boxing)

Banana and Noosa Yogurt at 7:30pm (post workout)

Small cookie, 8 almonds at 9:30pm (while working on game stuff)

Kashi granola at 11:30pm

Calories In 1844  / Out 2455

Calorie Composition: 48% from carbs, 34% from fat and 18% from protein.

Calling this a 90% clean day.  Only the boxed Kashi items are processed at all, and they are at least Kashi brand.

Exercise

6:30-7:30; Knockout boxing workout  (bag work, punch combinations and conditioning drills like jump rope, ball slams, battling ropes and more.)

Cardio #1

The jerks didn't do any conditioning tonight.   They ran pads after bagwork instead, and it was my first time really doing that, and it was awesome, and I felt like Starbuck!!

** Think I can count the boxing workout as a strength?  It's 30 minutes of bag work (15 rounds alternating with your partner) then she runs us through a conditioning circle also alternating with your partner.  In the past it's been stuff like burpees, pull ups, box jumps, ball slams, tire squats, battle ropes, push ups, over/unders.    That's strength stuff right?

** While putting my food into my fitbit log, I was having to add more and more food just to make it to a decent calorie total for intake, knowing that I will burn probably 500 at boxing.   I feel like that's a lot of foods.  I guess it's just that you get so much more food for your calorie when it's not crappy fast food or restaurant food loaded in butters and fats.

PS.  I hate day one of getting back to good eats.  Your tummy starts to act like it has NEVER BEEN FED EVER!Starving.gif

I always feel like this the first day of shark week. I always feel like Scarlett O'Hara yelling "With God as my witness, I will never go hungry again!" as I eat everything in sight (and remain hungry). Sadly, there are no gifs for this.

IN!!!

Loveing the variety- and the Starbuckiness of it (My dad always said that she reminded him of me so I also have a special place in my heart for her!)

I'm happy to help support in the music department- I've been taking an informal music theory class at my dance studio (they have a drum side of the studio- and Dave is an amazing teacher) and it's been my goal to start working on writing some finger cymbal patterns for music- so you know- music stuffage.

i have to practice at least 2x a week- might add that to the challenge. :)

But anyway- subbed for the winning!
