TennisGeek's gentle touch shot

TennisGeek

Recommended Posts

Hello! TennisGeek here. This is my 4th challenge.

For first 3.5 challenges, I've put in a lot of work, time and effort into each challenge.

I felt exhaustion just keeping up with my own challenge so I'm going to change the tone completely.

For this challenge, I've decided to not put any stress on myself.

My challenge is to simplify my life including the challenge itself.

Main Quest:

Becoming a Wimbledon Champion

Goals:

#1 - Sleep better. Don't sleep on couch.

Count night that I went to bed.

 CON+3

#2 - Throw one thing away every day for the duration of challenge

I want to clean my room, but wanting does not help. I will remove one thing from my room every day.

 WIS+3

#3 - Tennis strength training

 Twice a week.

 STR+2

Side/Life goals:

#4 - Stay calm, play nice

I challenge myself to not get frustrated about anything. Count days that I did not annoy my family.

Exception is when I am not  playing tennis very well and frustrated on myself - which is a healthy motivation.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.
And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition…

Great goals! Caution on #4 not to hold too much in. Sometimes you need to let off steam so you don't blow up at the ones you love. Key is finding a way to let off steam with out annoying family. Maybe journaling or physical activity? Just a thought.

Curious how #2 goes. I too have a life quest of leading an uncluttered life.

I have to tame down my frequency of blow up. :P

My tendency is to let go of stream too much with closest people. I don't do that with my work or friends.

My stream outlet is playing tennis. I play at least 3 times/week, if not more.

After the vacation, my weight this morning is 162.3lb. Unchanged from over a week ago. A month ago, I was below 160lb for a while, so it's a small uptick.

During vacation, I ate some crappy food, and some beer. I mean. It's a freakin' vacation, my friend.

My food (pretty good), weight (not bad), or exercise (very good) is not part of challenge, I'll write down whenever I have time.

I need to find a way to reduce small amount of food intake however to correct the weight uptick. MFP's calorie count says I'm not eating that much extra.

My medication (prednisone) is one of reasons of uptick but I want to remove some fat to get to 15%. 5lb makes some difference moving around tennis court. To win Wimbledon, any small improvement counts. ;-)

Good to see you back.  It sounds like Vacation was good.   :)

Thanks.

My vacation was the Disney world, and it was exciting but tiring. It's not a relaxing kind of vacation.

I worked my butt off to plan the park visits, and lead the herd in the park. I think I did pretty well.

I had good time with my family, and it was warm!

Oh yeah, I know how those vacations are :)  I'd love to get out to Disney World.  I've always heard to take a couple of weeks to hit up all the stuff there and at Universal.

We only went Disney. Last time, we went to Disney, Universal, SeaWorld. On the way back, we stopped at Cocoa beach.

To me, best part of vacation was a walk on the beach. It was relaxing.

As I was far away from my family my daughter texted me to call me back as she heard a thunder, and sure enough, as soon as we all got back to the car, it started to rain heavily.

Since I'm a creature of habit, I used Runtastic. It was really relaxing to walk on the beach and feel sand and water under feet.

Week 1 progress:

Sleep: 1/7

Toss: 1/7

Training: 0/2

Keep calm: 1/7

Water: 8 cups

I stayed up late last night but I went to bed.  I kept cool all day. - good start.

You'll see the stuff I'm removing from the room.

I may not actually throw away.

Some stuff is going to be given out or donated.

Some are going to be stored away in basement or attic.

Some may be repurposed in different room.

As long as stuff does not come back to my room, that' OK.

The goal is to have less stuff in my room.

I'm so totally stoked. I bought an app "Moves" - it was on Boston Globe.

It uses location and accelerometer to keep track of your movement, and then figures out what you are doing.

Today is the first day I used, but it knows when I'm walking and running.

To test, I played tennis with iPhone in my pocket.

For an hour, I did a warm up, and played. It identified 10 minutes walk and 50 minutes "walk".

I changed the 50 minutes part to "tennis" and gave me about 342 calories consumed.

Also, 141 calories for walk and 72 calories for running for the day. (I did walk and run)

This is the first time anything is giving me an realistic calories consumed for playing tennis.

I can collect some samples of calories burned for playing tennis!

This has been one of things I wanted to figure out, and now it's possible!

Week 1 progress:

Sleep: 1/7

Toss: 2/7

Training: 0/2

Keep calm: 2/7

Water: 12 cups

I fell asleep on couch last night. So, no point awarded for sleep.

Tossing for now is easy. It'll get harder and harder I suspect.

I chose playing tennis over training tonight.

And, I kept calm and didn't annoy anyone.

When I asked my wife about gym, she was slightly defensive as she hasn't been there for a while, and she is not planning to go to gym for next 2 weeks as she is very busy for her volunteer work. I'd like her to think gym as higher priority than volunteer work. She thinks the volunteer work is exercise. (some physical labor required)

I don't agree at all but I shut my pie hole as there is nothing I can to change her mind.
