Looking around for happiness. Panczo 9th challenge

Through pain and indecision my 9th challenge is born :)

 

Each time challenge closes to a end, I wonder whether I should let go of challenges and just chill out … but after that I always come back for another one… it’s called addiction is it? :) … I think one day I will do a challenge about not doing a challenge at all :)

 

Quickie about me:

- been here on NF since 31.dec.2012 and constantly changing my main quests J

- Male, Pole, 29yo, height 188cm, weight 74kg and super strength: barely pressing 10kg overhead while sitting for 3sets x 12reps,

- getting married in September – so all yo pretty girls still have your chance

- I’m injured with slight tennis elbow since jan.2013 – recently I showed him metaphorical “finger†and started lifting again. so far he doesn’t mind,

- I’m terrible in kitchen and generally don’t like cooking which is why my nutrition constantly sucks despite many tries for changing that,

- I get depressed once in a while so be warned :)

- Ok Panczo, that’s enough !!!

 

Main quests:

Just stay afloat :)

no really I don't have 1 main quest for now. Just keeping the good stuff going, working on knowing myself as always,  building in some relax time and figuring out what happiness is

 

Ok, without further ado let’s move to goals.

 

1. Keep enjoyable and/or valuable habits going just like last time:

a. do workout at least 3x/week = lifting weights 2-3 sessions + squash/swimming/biking/sprinting

c. do plan each day ahead 6x/week

d. limit coffee to no more than 2x/ week

e. limit home movie evenings to no more than 2x/week

f. limit drinking alcohol at home to no more than 2x/week and drink a total of 3x/week at all

 

2. Trying new habit:

a. get out of bed by 06.05am 5x/week to have some solitude time BUT ONLY if I can have at least 7hrs of sleep.

So I can do something  worthwhile with that extra 30-40minutes. Like meditate, plan positive actions, cultivate optimism, stretch, go for a walk or work on self-esteem etc.

I miss waking up early enough to have some ME time in solitude. Let’s try to get that back. But I need to make sure I have enough sleep so going to bed early will be crucial here.

 

3. Pursuit of happiness begins:

a. read and work with “Self Esteem†book - 0/1

if this book turns out to be rubbish, then I’ll find another one on the topic

b. do 5 self-awareness tests from here 0/5

c. organize biweekly board games playing meetings with new friends from our local board game club 0/1

I fell in love with board games and one meeting every two weeks is not enough. So it’s great chance to challenge myself socially and come up with initiative to meet more informally (without kids and their parents and with some beer perhaps ). 1st problem is my self-confidence in social situations and 2nd problem is where to meet in our little town and 3rd thing is I’m not even sure they will like the idea in the first place

 

4. Life challenge – relax time 0/42

 

a. EVERY DAY after work stop thinking about self-improvement in any way and DO SMTH JUST FOR FUN, to relax, to smile, to get closer to people in your life!!! Stop counting time, stop analyzing, be more open, more spontaneous AND JUST ENJOY THE MOMENT !!! 0/42

Some ideas:

  1. relax with my fiancée at home
  2. go out with my fiancée
  3. read fiction book
  4. listen to favorite music
  5. take long warm bath
  6. watch movie
  7. dance alone
  8. work on some fun project or not fun but needed that u can focus only on that work - be in flow
  9. play cards, board games
  10. just sit/lay in peace and relax
  11. go out with friends: gym, swimming, play sport, bar, board games, poker, cinema, just hang out, etc.
  12. visit family and be open and present
  13. help someone
  14. be happy in the moment – do anything you feel like doing just for the pleasure it will give to me!!!

I am so much focused on this entire self-improvement thing that I’m still getting depressed once in a while. And those days/weeks really sucks. I need to do something about it before it happens again. That's my first attempt

 

What will happen during this challenge:

  1. I’m going to Steel Panther concert in Prague – 26.feb.2014 – that is simply crazy J I will be out from 25-27.feb
  2. I’m planning on doing again mutli-veggie soup in bulk for few days – last one was delicious
  3. I’m planning on doing again protein bars – last one were disaster J

 

that’s what I’ve got for now

60% counts for level up - enough to keep me on track and yet having huge range to let go occasionally when I feel like shit :)

Back again!  Interesting challenge goals.  i really like the solitude goal; I start getting into real trouble if I don't get that.

To start properly my challenge update I would say:

 

I was there, really close to the scene and it was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as my goals go:

  1. keep the good stuff going
    1. Workout 3x – so far only once and one will be today. Plus I did lots of walking during Prague trip
    2. Plan each day x4 – done J
    3. Limit alcohol – well that is tough this week. I drank 3 days already while being in Prague. And still we have Saturday night and friends are coming by so I guess I will fail this goal with full awareness and lack of guilt J
    4. Limit coffee – zero coffee this week so far
    5. Limit movies at home to x2 – haven’t seen any this week
  2. Get up before 06.05am – this week x2 – I did good Monday and Tuesday – later it was prague trip so no early getting up on vacation J
  3. Pursuit of happiness –
    1. I started reading.
    2. -
    3. I didn’t do much about it, just mentioned it but without any specifics. Still work in progress
  4. Relax everyday: so far DONE J which was easy thanks to Prague trip J but also Friday and Monday I did it, so YaY 

next week will be difficult cause my dad is goin to hospital with my mom and sis taking care of him there so I will be alone at work (doing the job of 2 people) don't know for how long and also will have to take care of grandma cause she normally lives with my parents... so goals 1 and 4 will be top priority to stay positive!!! goals 2 and 3 might fall short a little but we will see about that yet

Heya, P! Woooooow!! That concert must have been awesome! Talk about doing something fun :D Way to go!
How's the solitary stuff and meditation treating you? I must say, I am avoiding too much time alone like the plague right now! Our goals are kinda the same (to avoid depression), but methods are quite different. And I salute you in your wake up time goal, those can be so tough!

hey guys, thx you all for great comments...

 

I just wanted to let you know that I'm not gonna be around here to often for next couple days/weeks/months - my dad  was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and it's pretty nasty. Schedule of our whole family and our small family business went upside down for now and we are just trying to hold on together...

 

So my challenge is officially aborted, but I will do my best to not forget and not lose completely what I have built in so far... I believe it can actually help me get through this bad times ...

 

wish you all the best guys and I hope I will rejoin with you one day in the rebellion !!!

Panczo, I am so sad to read your news. Sending lots of warm thoughts and strength your way!!

I think you are very wise in saying that your routines will help you through these coming times.

hey guys, thanks for your warm words... 

 

I'm sorry to inform everyone that my dad has passed away 2 weeks ago ... after 3 months of fears, hopes and almost living in hospitals our family is slowly building normal life patterns once more ... without my dad though .... 

 

I hope you are all doing fine !!! I'm not ready yet to get back to nerdfitnessing full time but I didn't forget this community and who knows I just might get back here one day... hopefully you will still be here !!!

Dear Panczo,

 

sad to hear about your dad passing away. You have my sympathy.

I hope you and your family will overcome this tragedy in the nearest future and manage to come to normal life in face of this great loss.
