LadyWitch - Getting stronger

The Main Quest...

This is actually really hard. I've been so focused on wedding prep for the last year, that looking beyond that is a struggle... But, I think I know what I want to aim towards now...

Participating in a Tough Mudder competition (or Spartan Race). I know it wont be easy... My head really isn't in the 'game' atm, but thats kinda the point. I need something to aim towards, something that requires moving out of my comfort zone and pushes me beyond what I 'think' I can do... So, to break it down into more manageable chunks my three goals are:

1/ Re-start the 'Zombies Run!' C25K programme x3pw

2/ Continue building muscle with the Bodyweight workouts from the NF Academy x3pw

3/ Clean up my diet – get back to Paleo. This means cutting out the diet coke, chocolate and hot chocolate that has crept back in to my daily diet.

Life Quest...

Housework. It's been side-lined over the last month or so (longer actually) so I really need to get back on top of things. Specifically, I need to get back into doing laundry 2 or three times a week, rather than letting it build up and then doing 3 loads in one marathon of washing – mostly cos this requires more space for drying it than if its done in smaller batches, and the laundry rack takes up space in my craft room! So, goal is to do laundry twice a week... if I manage three times then I get a bonus point!

Fitness Side Quest...

Attend a Cross Fit taster session. (This was going to be 'book' a session, but I did that this morning! Session is tomorrow evening!)

Motivations...

I want to be happy. I want to be able to look in the mirror and think 'I look good today'. I want to be able to take a compliment without doubting the sincerity behind it. I want to be able to run and jump and swim and play to my hearts content, without worrying about putting my back out. I want to learn to love me.

Starting stats:

Weight: 161.5lb (73kg)

Bust: 38 (96.5cm)

Chest: 31.5 (80cm)

Waist: 30.5 (77.5cm)

Hips: 41.5 (105.5cm)

Thanks KL! I'm still terrified at the prospect of doing the TM, but I'm sure I'll get there!

Had a bit of a false start this week really, Monday was great... Did my strength workout, went swimming, and then did my normal dance class in the evening... Then I woke up on Tuesday morning. My ankle was killing me, must have twisted it at some point on Monday, and then over the course of the day my back went on me too. Needless to say, I had to reschedule my Cross Fit taster, which sucks as I now have to wait till next Tuesday to do it, and I haven't been able to do my strength workout today either :(

I have however been fairly good diet wise... Other than having desert last night I've been Paleo all the way :) and desert was so nice I don't feel at all guilty about having it!

Spent most of yesterday making a wig for a Weeping Angels costume I'm doing for the next burlesque show (admittedly, sitting on the floor doing that for most of the day probably didn't help my back any), and got the dress mostly planned. And I had a friend over today to show me the first step in making a corset, and I've just ordered a load of bits so that I can finish it! Can't wait to be able to wear one and say 'I made this!'

Hello, LadyWitch!

You need to change your badge under your avatar now that you have changed guilds.

Sorry to hear about the ankle and back.

Signing up for a Tough Mudder really helped jump start my fitness journey when I began it.  Now, I am a Spartan Race addict.  Love OCR's!

I've just started the Zombies Run app.  It's pretty fun.  Good luck on the challenge!

Badge changed! Thanks for the reminder, I'd completely forgotten about it!

I haven't signed up for a TM yet, I'm in two minds about whether it would put me off or encourage me... Especially as with my ankle and back playing up I haven't been able to start the C25K this week, and I've missed a workout too...

Well, I've had a crappy few days. My back went on me last week and it's been playing me up merry hell; this means that I've not been doing my strength training, or any other real exercise. It also means that I've been comfort eating. The weekend was really bad food-wise. I had sausage rolls, biscuits, cheese, rice, sweets, pizza and even started drinking tea with milk again. All things that I know will make me feel crap. Why do we do these things to ourselves?! Grrrrrr. I haven't dared step on the scales this morning, so my weekly weigh in will not be happening.

I wish I knew how to get back on track. Seems every time I try, it lasts about 24hours and then I'm back to square one again. It's now 7 weeks till our honeymoon, and there is no way I'm going to hit the weight loss goals I had in mind... Maybe I should do a Whole30 again... Kick start it? Or would that just cause more problems on the long run? Or, am I over thinking this and 'collecting underpants' as Steve puts it? Probably the latter if I'm honest.

First job of the week is to get an appointment booked with my chiropractor, and get my back sorted. Then, I need to clear out the crappy fake 'food' that has started to creep into my pantry, and get back to diet basics... Meat, fish, veg, fruit, nuts, fats, small amounts of dark chocolate. If it's not on that list, I don't eat it.

Breathe.

Get your back straightened out and healthy.

Take small steps with the diet changes.  Drastic changes usually leads to people feeling hungry and falling off the plan.  Eat smart.

Weight loss goals are just that... goals.  Sometimes we nail them.  Sometimes, we fall a bit short.  It's not the end of the world.

Eat smart.  Do what exercise your body can handle.

Oh... and smile.

Hello! I completely agree with the above post. Break it down into manageable steps and take them one at a time. You don't want to overdo things and hurt your back even more, so get that sorted. For me, cold turkey is easier than phasing things out slowly when it comes to eating habits, but you know yourself best. Just take a deep breath and get going. You've got this!

Hope you get your back whole and healthy again. I know it is frustrating when your body doesn't respond well to the changes you want to make. As to the diet, going gung-ho cold turkey is great for some people (go Episolon, Go!), but I'm actually the opposite. I like to make small changes, and then let lots of small changes build into a big difference. Like the rule in physics, "An object in motion will stay in motion, and object at rest stays at rest." If I decide to improve my diet in one small way, usually other improvements follow naturally. That's just me though.

Either way, good luck this week! And like AgentsSka said, Smile!

Sorry to hear about your back ladywitch, I feel you on the falling into comfort eating, but you know, focus as much as you can on getting your back sorted, once you are feeling a bit better it will be easier to concentrate on what you are putting in your body, one bady week does not make 6 :) You've got this and we've got your back (rubs that is, gentle back rubs).

Thanks guys, your support helps! The chiropractor can't see me till Friday afternoon, so will have to do the best I can until then... Its not as bad today, so fingers crossed it is improving. The last two days have been good on the diet front, but today is pancake day... so I think its safe to say i'll be off plan agin tonight, but its one meal, once a year... and I will get right back to it tomorrow. I plan on going for a walk tomorrow morning (I'd go today, but I'm working non stop today)

I originally went cold turkey on all grains in June last year, and had no problems sticking to it; in fact I was 90% Paleo from June - October with very few problems. Then I did a Whole30 as part of one of my challenges. I completed it, and reintroduced dairy... and then went off the rails. I've been struggling to get back on track ever since, and have gained half a stone in that time.

The biggest frustration at the moment, with my back playing up, is that I was just starting to see improvements with the strength training... I was developing biceps! I'm going to try and do some push-ups and squats today, to keep things from back tracking, but I doubt my back is up for much (and definitely not the full workout I've been doing)...
