Scout Base Camp!

If you're a newbie to NF challenges, we ask that you sign up in the First Time challenge sub forum, in order to learn the ropes this challenge and the minis and info is geared more to your level.

To sum it up:

• Sign up for the challenge on the sign up sheet
• Pick a Main Quest. Your Main Quest could be something that will take as long as you need (it doesn't have to only be one challenge focussed).
• Pick 2 - 3 SMART missions/goals that will help you achieve the Main Quest you've selected. These are only 6 week specific and need to be a combo of fitness/diet goals.
• Choose a Life Quest if you'd like to do one.
• If you feel ready you may pick an additional side quest, but these should not detract from your main quests.
• Create a thread, with your name in the title, and post your goals in there. You can put a link to your challenge thread in your signature.
• You don't have to but it would be great to allocate attributes points to your goals, so that you're rewarded at the end of 6 weeks.
• Pop in at least 3 times a week and post on your thread. We want to know how you're doing, for inspiration, to/for support and sometimes to offer /ask advice.
• Keep an eye out for the mini challenges posted each week and try to participate in at least one of them (there will be a mix of fitness/nutrition/life so don't feel like you can't participate)
• At the end of the challenge post a final summary in your post and the report in thread and level up.
• Finally, give any of your Guild Leaders a shout if you need anything, whether it's support, advice, a pep talk or to offer a suggestion. We're here to help you succeed!

Scouts Leaderboard:

Our leader in exile BarefootDawsy had the foresight to start this leader board during his tenure and now we continue the tradition. This is an excellent place to post and update the spreadsheet with your latest PRs in whatever distance and method of locomotion is native to you. 

 

Accountabilibuddies:

These are small groups of 6 or 7 Rebels who share the same goals, the same values or are just looking for a "band" who encourage one another. You can find out what the groups are about here and you can sign up for those groups here once you've decided on a group. You should also be able to find a mentor on this sign up sheet.

Mini Challenges:

Mini challenges are great fun to participate in and the Guild Leaders try and center these around the majority of challenge goals in the thread. They generally run from the Monday (roughly) until 23.59 on the following Sunday and you may score extra attribute points. They're not compulsory but we encourage you to try at least one. This round of minis have been scripted by You! A new Scout every week will be writing the challenge this time around.

Your Guild Leaders

If you get into difficulties, or have suggestions on how to make our awesome guild even better, you can chat with one of your friendly guild leaders. Currently, that's (in alphabetical order), Kailer, Shukar, and Terinatum.  18ck is taking some time off but feel free to use him as a resource anyway.

How to contact your guild leaders

Perhaps you're worried about inappropriate behaviour on the forum, something breaching the NF Code of Honour, or an irritating spammer. As a reminder, "Mocking, harassing, or belittling another forum member or another forum member's form of training, diet, or lifestyle is not allowed. Suggestions, advice, tips are more than welcome - there's a difference."

If you see one of our posts, you can hover your mouse over a username, and then when the pop up box appears, select "Send Message". Or, click on our avatars (little pictures) to go to our profile page, then select "Send me a message". To search for a mod (or any other member, for that matter) by username, you can go to the search box at the top right of the screen, and click the little grey button (it probably says "Forums"), and change it to "Members". Then put in someone's username (or as much as you remember), and away you go!


If you have a technical fault/issue with the forums, please instead visit the Feeback/Help section, and see if your issue has been reported and/or addressed. If it hasn't, you might like to lodge a ticket.

Just to be awkward I have posted the poll for the last challenge's Scout Champion in the old conference.

 

I've reverted to a slightly more traditonal way of voting because it seems to be better than the way I suggested last time, so there's a choice from three people with exceptionally strong challenge results, namely 

• Inspired Fool (Building mileage for a 50k trail run - and we've got to respect that!)
• Kaylya (Relative NF newcomer, hitting all the goals in pursuit of 10k glory)
• Syren (Four "A"s in top-quality goals, inventing a new attribute type "Sinisterity" which sounds like something we all should have)

As usual though, it was a very strong showing - BGV's trail running adventures and Kailer's food porn for example, made them strong contenders too - but a shortlist is a shortlist because it's short and that sometimes means it isn't long enough for everyone who could be on it, so...

I'd like you all to welcome Kailer to the Scouting team, she's going to be our third Ambassador helping spread the Scoutly word to the level 1s. She's been busy putting together some fun resources for that you should see shortly.

Outgoing Ambassador

Firstly, a big thanks to Primeval who is hanging up her Ambassadorial wand-of-office after many long months of dedicated service to the scout cause, during which she has extended the hand of scoutery to many a benighted soul, languishing in the level 1 conference among assassins, rangers and even *shudder* warriors. Rather than trying to appoint a new ambassador to fill her very well-used shoes, we thought we'd try a new thing.

Scouts Guild Needs You!

Starting in the next challenge, we're planning to check out the new noobs and try and match their interests/background to yours. Sometime in week 1, we'll aim to introduce each scout to one new Rebel-Without-a-Guild who has scouty tendencies and... well, just sort of hope you hit it off, really. In some cases, it might be two if there are two people who seem to be on your wavelength. It'll be a bit like that side-challenge in week 3 where Kailer came up with a list of matches. Why? Well, it'll be a good way of the newbies getting to meet someone who shares interests with them rather than someone whose "job" it is to greet them, and as an added bonus, you'll get to meet a new dude who has been . 

So, formerly one or two ambassadors, now dozens of buddies. Anyone seen the finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, where they activate the potential slayers? It'll be like that but with less staking and more animated gifs, probably.

One Of Us

We're also planning to invite any level 1 scout who is already running and already knows what they're doing to just join Scouts straight away without having to do their time in the L0 conference because there are some people who just don't seem to need 6 weeks to find their feet.

So That's the Plan

We hope you'll think it's cool, but we'll review it at the end of the 6 weeks and see how it's going. In the meantime, if anyone has any qualms or questions, drop us a DM or post in the tavern.

I've just posted the voting thread for the last challenge. As usual, it is based on entries in the write-up thread and we usually pick three candidates who have stood out. You can pick a champion from among their ranks.

• BGVanbur - two missed goals but the other two were so comprehensively owned, and the great time in a super-hilly half M course so epic that he has to get props for sheer focus and determination.
• Primeval - A recent winner but apparently she's on a roll because for like the third or fourth challenge in a row she has absolutely smashed the shit out of it so it's A grades as far as the eye can see.
• Terinatum - Grades not actually that great but had a lot of setbacks and drove a freaking bulldozer through them to emerge victorious on the other side and it shines through in her challenge write-up.
