QuirkyDM Flashes the city

Yeah for heavy squats!!  Also, whenever you post your 5k times I'm like 'DAMN!! Someday! Someday I'll be that fast!'.   Finally 15 seconds of double unders is impressive!

Well, that's not my actual 5K times- there's about a 250m slow jog between intervals. The idea is that I should be able to string those intervals together for a dedicated 5K. I definitely feel like I could keep running between intervals, but I wouldn't be able to keep up the fast pace at the last interval if I did. Tomorrow morning I'll find out how well this grand experiment worked.

Good luck on the 5K!!!

^^^ That!

Thanks, guys. I saw these messages before my run and it was a nice to have a cheering section. :)

Instead of going through the nitty gritty, I might as well just slap down my challenge summary and you can see the results there!

Fitness Goal A- Run. Just ... run. (3 runs + 1-2 weight sessions per week)

GRADE: B

I missed two Zombies, Run! sessions, and one weight lifting session. However, I did an extra weight session early on in the challenge, so I hit this pretty well.

The big thing is, I got lots of running in, I hit all the practice runs for my next two goals, and my weight lifting is at the same level it was when I started this challenge. (I was concerned all the running would tire me out too much or eat away some muscle)

Fitness Goal B- Going the distance. (long distance trail runs to 25K)

GRADE: A

I hit all these runs, and furthermore, they felt great. No issues with any of them and my pace/km on the same trails is about 20 seconds faster than last year, which is a nice surprise.

Fitness Goal C- 23:00 5K.

Grade: A+

I hit all my tempo runs over the weeks. And then yesterday I strung them all together.

22:43 - my new PR! (edit to more accurate time from my running app)

What else do I need to say than that? Actually, I can say that a little over a year ago, I was running a 27:00 5K.

Lifequest Goal- The Speed Force family. (1/week bike/run with family)

Grade: A

The only week I didn't get out with the family on a bike/run is when my parents visited and they did it with the kids instead. Plus, I still averaged over 1/week and we went to the aerial park as well.

Fitness Side Quest - Twice as fast. (30 seconds double unders)

Grade: A

I really don't focus enough on these side quests, but I guess that's why they're side quests. But with a heck of a lot of focus, I pulled this one off Friday night- once. But that's enough for what I needed. I do 2 minutes jump rope before each weight session, so I can keep pushing these out and get better on my own.

Ranger Mini-Quests.

Complete.

I got through all the mini quests again, so that was a bonus. i can use that to compensate for the missed points in my fitness goal.

All in all, I scored 15 out of 16 available points, which makes this my most complete challenge to date. And I wouldn't have wanted it any harder. :)

Mud Hero run this weekend to make all the hard work worthwhile and then I'll see you all in the next challenge. (and in your current challenge thread wrap ups)

Wow. Thanks for all the support, everyone. I don't even know where to start with responses except that it's awesome having all of you in my corner. Thanks!

I'm looking forward to next challenge. I've got four OCRs in the next two months (including this weekend) and this will be all about training specifically for them.

MUDHERO COMPLETE!

Everyone's getting their next challenge ready, but I'll pop this up in the meantime. Mudhero 2014 is finished and I'm glad to get back into the OCRs this year. I've done a few obstacle courses before, but this is my first mud run. In that that mud was deep and thick. You don't jump into mud pits, or else you sink so low, you get stuck. You don't stop moving in a mud pit, or else you sink so low, you get stuck. There were a few standard obstacles, (and by standard, I mean fun) like cargo net crawl, walls, over/under, slides and balance beam. And some great wooded trails to run on. But then it was mud pit after mud pit.

And it was a blast! My goal time was 45 minutes. I got 39:53- 42nd on the day and 3rd in my age/gender category. Woo hoo!!

They're still indexing my photos but here's a few that I have already. I'll post more as I find them.
