DW's "I'm actually gunna make progress this time" challenge

Dude, congrats on making the whole 30 days! I couldn't even make seven myself. Very nicely done.

Thanks! I was already mostly paleo, so the transition wasn't too bad. All I really ate that wasn't whole30 compliant was dairy and protein supplements. Now that the 30 days is over, I'm going to add back in protein supplements and I am going to starbucks in a little while and am going to get heavy cream in my coffee. Other than that, I am going to stay pretty dang close to 100% paleo for a while longer.

Here is the link to my whole30 wrap up on my blog. I didn't include this in the post, and if anyone wanted to do the math I'm sure they could figure it out, but I apparently went from a total bodyweight of 156 to 162lbs; lean mass of 134.8 to 143.3lbs. I don't really trust the calipers to be that accurate, but they're all I have to go on.

Haha I'm not quite a badass yet. My goal is to be a complete badass. It is going to be tough to first off eat that much but also tough to find time to prepare that much food. Yeah there are quick options, but I would rather cook something, then eat it. I have never really liked cooking a bunch at a time then eating it as the week progresses. I might have to change that though. Like cook a lot of steaks, chops, and hamburger patties, throw them in the fridge, and take them to campus for fatty-protein snacks. And MORE ALMONDS AND COCONUT PRODUCTS!!

UPDATE 28 SEPT 2011:

Squat: 5x5 @150lbs

Bench: 5x5@ 100lbs

Deadlift: 5@ 110lbs, 5 @ 155lbs, 3x5 @ 200lbs

I was pressed for time because I overslept (yay recovery) and am meeting with a study group after class, so I went between classes to the REC center. I didn't have time to do push press like i wanted to, but got the three major ones above done.

DIET:

According to dailyburn.com, I ate right at 5000 calories yesterday and about 3000 so far today. And that was without shooting olive oil or anything sneaky like that. Would it be bad to eat that much and throw a in couple shots of olive oil for good measure? I think I'll chill out at 5k a day for a week or so and see how that goes.

I also am not going to weigh myself again till next Tuesday.

Thanks! I was freaking beat after studying late, getting up early to study more, and then go to my other classes and take the exam. I was glad yesterday was an off day. Most off days I am antsy to do something, but yesterday I just wanted to sleep!

UPDATE:

Squat: 5x5 @ 155lbs

Chinups: 6/5/5/5

Push Press: 5x5 @80lbs

Diet:

Almost Exactly 4500 calories today.

School:

Where I need to be on all my readings. I need to spend some time doing some lab work, but I've been putting it off because I don't wanna go sit in front of a computer for hours. I get too antsy trying when sitting in front of a computer for hours on end. Makes me realize I don't really want to do the GIS side of my degree because it is mostly sitting in front of a computer. I would die if I were to get a job requiring me to sit in front of a computer all day. Or sit all day doing anything.

I don't suppose there's any way you could take the computer in the lab and mount it so that you have to stand and type? That helps.

Unfortunately, I cannot. They are all bolted to desks that you can only use while seated. I bet standing would make a difference, but I can't...

UPDATE:

Squat: @ 165lbs 5x5

Bench: @115 5x5

Dips: 13/11/8

Rows: Setting 12 on the cable row (all the barbells and appropriate dumbbells were taken)

Diet:

5500 calories so far today. I think I'm done eating for the night.

Academics/Life: Going to the Library right now to get some studying done for upcoming midterms.

I just want to say, I can finally empathize a little bit with the whole not-enough-calories thing. My shake fell short of my needs by about 240 calories... which, incidentally, is exactly how much you get out of two shots of olive oil. But I didn't figure that out until it was too late, so... had to take the shots without a chaser. :D Wow.

I was behind yesterday so I took a couple shots of olive oil too, with my shot glasses that are doing nothing but collecting dust. It was the first time I did it, and it was kinda weird. I ended up drinking a good bit of water afterwards to wash it down. Still not sure how I feel about it... I have been adding coconut oil to a lot of things I am eating to get a few more cals per meal. That seems to be working pretty well.

thats it, I'm getting my shot glass and olive oil. very impressive man.

Thanks Aejaxe. I try to get as much as I can out of food, but supplementing with oils seems to be a good idea. A lot of people supplement protein, why not supplement fat? haha. Today was olive oil free, but I cooked everything in coconut oil, and added a shot of coconut oil to some almond butter and mashed a banana and coconut flakes into it (delicious). I haven't tried shooting coconut oil... may have to do that when I get home from (not) studying at the library.

I saw this over at balancedbites.com a while back: fats and oils to cook with. Diane and many others in the paleo community have suggested that oils like olive oil become oxidized/damaged when cooking with them, and that is supposedly a bad thing, so I started cooking with coconut oil. It tastes fine and works well, so I use it.
