Today's fruit - an orange.

Another busy night - second in a row. My business stuff is on hold, possibly until the weekend now. Not good! I still have Indieproofing work outstanding too.

Tonight I have mostly been writing a short story for tomorrow night (I will be redrafting it tomorrow after work).

Mmm, blueberries.

Felt below par today and it has been raining all day. Running at lunch time did not appeal. Went anyway. In light of the bad weather we did endurance running on hills. My suffering was great, and yet I conquered them. :-)

Still no business work tonight - I've redrafted a short story for this evening's writing group. But I might have time to fit in a video or two.

Today's fruit - raspberries.

Working on a blog post today and got some exercises done this morning.

This evening contained too much food while a bunch of people sang in dodgy accents and dodgier costumes. Yep, it's Eurovision night - an event that leaves most Americans utterly baffled by its nonsensity.

I think you mean "leaves most Europeans baffled". Americans are fortunate enough not to have it all over their TV. I've just had to explain it to @shukar on twitter.

Raspberries are much nicer than blueberries, eh? I'm picturing you doling out berries like a daily does of pills though. What about mixing a few fruits up as a fruit salad?

1 sliced banana, 1 tangerine, a few small fruits or berries = breakfast yumminess! Don't bother with apples though. Not squishy enough for salad IMHO. You could even go crazy and tip some mango juice or innocent smoothie over it.

:D

Struggling with motivation today. Still, I got various housework bits done, I've finally made myself finish off some work I've been putting off for the last few days on an Indieproofing job and I have written a pretty long blog post on small talk and chess. Now uploaded ready for tomorrow, and I'm knackered. Time for rest!

Fruit: Banana

Run: Imminent (in about 15-20 minutes or so)

Business: Watched some more videos, feeling something of a crisis of confidence. I am advised not to move on to developing products until I've gained about 100 subscribers to my site. A hundred?? I have six! And one of them is me, so I can make sure the emails are being sent out!!

It's not an issue with content. My writing is good (could it be better? Perhaps, but it's good enough to get *something*, surely?). It's getting people to actually see it in the first place. I have no idea how to get stuff out there and get it noticed.

Tonight I run, so I'm not going to dwell on it for now, but tomorrow I'm going to do the only thing that has ever worked out for me in these situations. I'm going to embrace my British nature and complain. I'm going to demand someone explains what the hell is going on.

Because the alternative is quitting. I'm not doing that.

General background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Song_Contest

Basically, once a year all the countries in Europe (including Russia - this isn't literally Europe the continent) gather together and each enter a song. Then everyone votes at the end for their favourite and we pretend politics isn't involved. The winner gets to sing again and hosts the contest next year. Some are great songs about love and wonderful things sung by women in big sparkly dresses. Sometimes they are men in sparkly dresses. And sometimes you get songs about penguins, moustaches and people singing "lalalala" for three minutes. It's all bonkers.

We get in lots of party nibbles and laugh at it all.

Anyway - run now completed. 7km in two stages, and better than last time. Do I push for 8km next week...?

I agree - Twitter and Facebook.

General guideline for running: increase your distance by no more than 10% each week. But I never listen to that. I bet you can do 8km, no sweat.

RE publicising the blog - are you on twitter and are you any good at putting yourself about on it?

Yes and no. I have a twitter but few followers. Not really too sure what to do with it - surely anything I tweet will only be seen by the people already following me? Perhaps I need someone to do my marketing for me.

Today I have lapsed into something of a depression. I have stuff to get on with and my brain has shut down instead. With regards to this challenge, today I had an orange. I feel so very tired. Work is draining me, I fear - it's a busy time, and I'm unable to focus on anything back home. I've already decided that today is a day off from exercise and business. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Ah, the post-eurovsion doldrums. It's a well-known condition! Get a good night's rest and grow a beard and long hair, you'll be right as rain.

As for twitter, you can probably Google some stuff about how to do it. What I'm intending to do is use hashtags. Some people with an interest in social care for example will post with #socialcare in their tweets as a way of keeping an open conversation going. Some of my posts will touch on IT issues in social care services so I might tweet something like

Just blogged about the way social media is changing #socialcare www.myurl.com

so the people interested in it can see it and have a look. If there room they can chuck in related terms - #nhs #ukuncut #bigsociety etc. So if you are blogging about running, try #running #fitness #5k and so on. Search for the Hashtags first to make sure they are being used.

Obviously nobody likes a spammer, so rather than just hit and run, maybe interact with like-minded people you see tweeting about those things and get a convo going. Follow them and they'll probably follow you and that way you build a bit more of a presence & community around it.

As for the suggestion about Facebook... Well, you're on your own there *shudder*

Ugh! Myurl.Com was just an example of coursd. It turns out (predictably) there is a lame, spammy site there. Sorry - I'm not recommending it!

Feeling a fair bit happier today. I've tried to reduce the intensity at work a little and it seems to be paying off (the brighter weather might be something to do with it too). Though there might also be something in the Eurovision slump - something of a food hangover. It was a long way from being a paleo spread.

Exercises done this evening after work. The cat looked on with sleepy amusement. I didn't especially feel like them and it took me a while to get started but my willpower is stronger today.

And I've taken a rather scary step on the business front - I've asked for help. The response has been that I need to ask better questions and provide more details, which is a little disappointing after thinking about it all day and spending fifteen minutes crafting the question itself, but I've made an effort. I will need to expand on it, as soon as I can figure out what I'm doing. I can feel despair looming over this, but I'm fighting it.

EDIT: I thought about my question some more, looked at some guidance on asking better questions, and added more details. To my astonishment, I think doing that answered most of my issues by itself. Feedback since then has been considerable - and useful. Despair be gone! I haven't felt this enthused in ages.

Running fitness group at work today. And I was running to get to it - a meeting beforehand, scheduled for an hour, over-ran. I knew it would. We only wrapped up when we did because the room was booked by another group. Managed to fall over during the warm-up, but I'm rather good at that - I just sort of crumple to the floor in stages and avoid injuries. First time I've managed to fall over on one of these sessions.

Between that and work itself, I'm utterly knackered tonight. The dishwasher is on, the recycling has been put out, the bin emptied... and my brain is empty of thinking juice. Work was hectic today. I've got about four projects on the go at once, and there's a panic over the database upgrade because the Personnel team aren't able to access the test server and there's a chance this is because of the upgrade to that server (in which case we can't upgrade the live one next week). So I'm struggling to figure out what's wrong on a system we don't support, on a new version of Windows, while all around me I'm being accosted to sort out service migrations (only three of which I'm technically doing myself). I have work to do, but I'm not sure my brain is capable of much tonight. The weekend is looking more practical.

EDIT: Watched a couple of short videos, and was suddenly inspired for both my next blog post and a "freebie" to offer subscribers. But that really IS it now. Brain needs rest.

Hmm, did I not say anything about Friday? Probably because I was gibbering in a heap somewhere. A stressful and busy day a work to finish off a stressful and busy week, and then an evening of rest for the most part. Passion fruit was consumed.

Today I have exercised in the morning and spent business time on a blog post. This is to be publicised in various places when it goes up. I've also started on a free giveaway for blog subscribers (early days yet). I'm avoiding Indieproofing work again. Tomorrow I will conquer it.

Just got back from a 45 minute walk around a nearby reservoir. The weather has grown decided warm and unpleasant.

Sunday is a day of rest. And grapes (ticks off fruit goal).

I've also cooked a chicken breast that was going to be for lunch, and I'm going to add it to a homemade salad for tomorrow instead. Yay!

Business-wise, I have not done that much. My blog was completed this morning and uploaded ready for tomorrow's publication. I will promote it then. Instead, today has seen me working on my *other* business, writing a story for an Indieproofing client. I've been avoiding this, and it turned out to be quite fun.

Tomorrow is running day. I hope it isn't as warm as it has been this afternoon, or it could be quite a struggle.

Fruit - banana.

Business - catching up on videos. I've put a short list together of tasks to do for the blog, but it's looking like another busy week and I can't guarantee much progress. I will focus on getting a little done every day and not worry too much about quantity.

But tonight is running night. And my first evening run this year in shorts - the weather has suddenly turned much warmer. Weird to be running in daylight, too.

I felt a bit off going out the door today. Decided not to push any harder but to stick with 7km as before, assuming I even managed that... and certainly, the stitches started kicking in fairly soon after I started. But I pushed on. Felt better but rather tired by the halfway recovery walk, and was somewhat daunted by the fact I'd be starting on a long uphill slope. And then I hit the flat, started to find a rhythm. When Kenny Loggins' "Footloose" came on the iPhone, I actually sped up (damn that's a rousing song). And then, suddenly, I hit the end of the workout.

No! I'm not ready to stop!

Five minutes walking. But then, on the way home, an evil moment of madness. Once my walk finished, I broke into a sprint. So there are hills on the way back! So what! I ran for a minute before I had to stop, and walked the rest of the way.

First 3.5km run - 8:24 min/mile

Second 3.5km run - 8:38 min/mile

Extra sprint - 7:25 min/mile. :)

So about 7.2km in total!

Now for a much needed shower, and I may get on with some business writings after all...
