Caution
Hello all, been a while since I've been around these parts, I guess a little back story is in order. Over the past several months I've struggled with my addiction to alcohol. I thought I was in control of it, turns out I'm not nor do I think I'll ever be able to. This is something I've feared since I started trying to use alcohol in moderation over a year ago and it is going to be tough go. I have poured out all of my favorite scotches, whiskeys and beers and I'm ready for this journey. Main goal: Quit drinkingHow? Tell my family - This is going to be very difficult for me, I've been the rock to my wife, mom, dad and sisters and exposing myself on this level is going to be something I'm going to have a difficult time dealing with.Get a support group - Find other people to help cope with this situation, meet them regularly.Do things to keep me busy - Boredom is usually what triggers me wanting a drink, time to put some plans in order for some DIY house stuff. Side quest:Get back to the gym and start over, I'm going to start by running for 30 minutes a few times a week while I battle withdrawals and then move into a 3x5 program. Here's to a sober life. Caution
Good on you brother! Glad to see you back around these parts. If you need anything just let me know. Good luck. Thanks, a bit busy at work but I'll try to post to peoples threads when I get some free time. Good to see a friendly bear-punching face again. Morning Day 2: Had a conversation with my mother yesterday and it was pretty difficult to swallow but she's the only person I wanted to tell first, I haven't went to the whole family yet, I'm not prepared for it. Not feeling bad yet, but I've gone plenty of days of not drinking before, I imagine the bad parts will start this weekend. My Current Challenge Link to comment
Caution
Midday 2: Ran for 30 minutes during my lunch break Evening Day 2: Had a lodge meeting where normally I'd tip a few back but I stuck with some 7-up and a handful of chips, so first social obligation was a success. The wifey has bronchitis so she's having a rough go and its not easy to sleep during coughing fits. Did some online support reading, feeling pretty good about that so far. Ran for 30 minutes at work on my lunch. Tonight: Making Jalapeneo and cheese quesadillas and watching NHL playoffs with the wife then maybe some Diablo 3 or Skyrim. Caution
Saturday update: Got up around 7 am and went grocery shopping for the week. Got most of the pool taken down and played some video games while I wait for the rest to drain. Was going to run but taking down a pool by myself is a lot of work. Making beef minestrone for dinner then probably some more games and watching hockey playoffs. My Current Challenge Link to comment

Caution
Chilling out with the ice people is good. You've got it.Thanks, I feel pretty strong so far! Monday morning update time. Sunday - Woke up around 8 a.m. and got back to the pool, finished taking down all the pieces, just waiting for the rest to drain out of the liner and then I'm going to cut it up and throw it out, metal pieces to the curb for the scrappers. Lunch was mostly leftovers while I cooked Easter dinner. The wife is pretty sick still so we stayed back at home and had a Ham (8 lbs. and made my own maple-cider glaze), mashed cauliflower, green beans and candied baby carrots. After dinner I went for a good Motorcycle ride along the lake for some reflection time, then played some video games, watched Game of Thrones and went to bed. Monday - Still feeling the pangs of addiction here and there, same feelings I had when I quit smoking all those years ago so I know they will subside. Rode the bike in to work because it is supposed to be a beautiful day. TODO: Run during lunch. Still deciding on dinner, I have 7 lbs of ham to do something with. My Current Challenge Link to comment

Schmopey
I have 7 lbs of ham to do something with. I really like the ham and split pea soup from The Best Recipe Cookbook published by the folks who do "America's Test Kitchens." If you like food science and don't have this cookbook or one of the newer editions, I highly recommend that you pick it up. Caution
That's a good problem to have. There are definitely much worse problems to have I really like the ham and split pea soup from The Best Recipe Cookbook published by the folks who do "America's Test Kitchens." If you like food science and don't have this cookbook or one of the newer editions, I highly recommend that you pick it up.I saved the ham bone and always reserve 1.5 lbs for split pea soup, my wife loves my recipe and demands that any holiday that involves ham that I have to make it. I'll be making that on Sunday as she's heading out of town mid-week to visit family. I'll probably make ham salad, ham quiche and ham tetrazzini to use up the leftovers. Caution
Tuesday Morning update: Monday: Ran during lunch, got home and a bunch of scrappers were waiting outside to ask if they could take the scrap metal that I had from taking my pool down, (Sweet, less work for me!). Just reheated some ham slices and made some mixed vegetables for dinner. Played some games and then did a little bit of bible reading. Today: Woke up feeling pretty good, but forgot my lunch sitting on the counter, boo! Guess I'll make a trip out to the corner market for something. TODO: Run today during lunch, dinner (making ham tetrazzini) and some chores. Happy Earth Day! (Pick up some litter on your travels today ) My Current Challenge Link to comment

I forgot it was Earth day, but I did pick up some "litter" today. There was this huge chunk of metal in the middle of the road near a crosswalk and cars were slowing as they approached it, so I picked it up and trashed it, although I maybe should have recycled it somehow. That seems like a bad idea going into summer But score on the scrappers finishing up for ya!I don't care to swim, I used to but then sometime around mid teenage years I just didn't want to do it anymore. It was somewhat older (all steel, no aluminum) and I spent hundreds of dollars every year opening and maintaining it and my wife never swam in it, so I'd rather have my yard than a money sink. Wednesday update time. Tuesday: Went for a run during lunch then had a Caesar salad, then some annoying stuff at work happened at the end of the day, which caused huge withdrawals (trixy brain) but argued myself out of it during my 45 minute drive home. Got home and was really sick of ham so I made turkey sausage and mashed cauliflower with a red onion gravy. Then I found out some family related things that really upset me (and cost me a chunk of my emergency funds). I was thankful that I didn't have any booze in the house because I would have probably consumed it all. Not a very... pleasant... day. Today:Brought leftovers for lunch and did my run.
