Hermione Gainser
Laura -- how you approaching your posture goal? i've got a similar one, and I confess I don't know how to approach it and/or measure it other than "oh, shit, I need to sit up straight." Well, I found one of those curved pillow things when I was helping move offices last year. I had it but took it off after a while. I started by putting it back on my chair. This helps because of the way my chair and desk at work fit together-or don't. If I'm sitting elsewhere (which is unlikely) I basically just have to mentally check it and correct it. When I'm walking or standing I try to imagine that invisible string they always talk about in yoga. I pull my shoulder blades together (more or less) and just periodically do a mental check. It's mostly a mental thing but I find the more I check and the more I correct the more I check and the less I need to correct. I used to have really good posture... I'm not sure what happened hahaha "I'm just going to remember to not eat like an asshole most of the time" - MoC three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: one must squat.- Brobert Frost Half-Elf Warrior | Current Challenge New Battle Log | Old Battle Log Special thanks to AkLulu for drawing my awesome avatar! bondgirl311
I love the title. Freakin sweet. Also, Laura, when your doing your head stands are you doing it against a wall? You said you were swaying a bit so I just wanted to know how exactly you are doing it? (I feel like if you were flat against a wall there wouldn't be much swaying? idk)This doesn't actually quote what I'm wow-ing over. The quote you have by Thomas Merton in your signature is incredible, and really hits home. Thanks for sharing it every time you post! Hermione Gainser
Krav Maga eh? Are you of Jewish decent or is it just something you chose? Hahaha no..not Jewish. My ultimate life goal is to be a bad ass ninja assassin. I figure, that's best achieved by learning awesome fight techniques. I box, but I would enjoy knowing what to do with the rest of my body. Kishi
Uh, practical advice. Make sure that the Krav school that you check out has sparring going on at least every other class. Otherwise, you'll be in a more academically-minded class that doesn't necessarily value or give martial proficiency.Though, I guess, it depends on your goals, so. Hermione Gainser
Update 9/8Rest day from liftingYoga-Check! Stuck to really light, fluid movements to work out the soreness in my hamstrings (I'm walking like an old man) and shoulder/neck area.Practice headstand-Check! Held for a bit more than 4 seconds. Woot! Grains-Once! AND I resisted eating a biscuit at our office birthday breakfast celebration (So this counts as minimize grains AND resist office treats!)! Go me! I made scrambled eggs and had some of those with a small helping of fruit. Not bad. Eat more-I ate like a MOFO today (and last night after lifting) and I haven't felt that obnoxious hunger at all! This is most exciting! Brain game-coming soon. Posture-not as great, but not bad. Went for a walk on lunch (loving this weather) and practiced keeping my shoulder blades pulled in towards each other. Lovely. All in all, a good day. Tomorrow is my last lift before Chattanooga for the weekend. Also starts the next part of phase 1 of my program, which means I get to increase weight (more) and decrease reps. WOOT! Hermione Gainser
Hey guys! Thanks! Sorry I've been MIA. I got back from Chattanooga quite late yesterday. It was a blast! We were very active each day (and very exhausted each night). We walked and tree topped adventured (yup, made that a verb) ourselves to exhaustion. Cheat day: a success. It was fun! Sadly, I went ahead and ate poorly on Sunday, too. So, I will not get a cheat day this week. I'm glad to be home and getting back to normal, though. Today will be batch cooking (not sure what yet) day and maybe a circuit. Tomorrow will be lifting! Chattanooga you say? Better not go near any shadows. I'll be waiting. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAI was ready for battle, sir. You did not show.
