Today was maintenance day down at the club so instead of rowing I cleaned the bar area and played a menial role in the construction of a new boat rack.

Flyer19 was keen to do some working out but all the weights were out in the gravel and "hers" were being used as doorstops so instead we went on an adventure and did some gymnastics and tennis and skipping and what-not. My handstands were near sublime, though I say so myself, although I did fall on my back once. It wasn't as bad as I expected so I'm less nervous about it now.

In the evening we went to another open air concert - Bill Bailey supported by Chas and Dave (both acts impossible to describe so I won't even try). did I eat better than last time? Well, I'm not drunk this time but...

Yeah, yeah, I know. We danced a lot though and I almost died laughing at one point.

Stuff I have taught Flyer19 today: How to use the lasso and clone tools in the GIMP (you'll see why when she posts her write-up), how to appreciate Weird Al Yankovich, how peer pressure works.

Challenge round-up.

Um... Quite a lot of failure this time around, what with the bad eating habits and inability to get my arse our the door in that last week or so, and the fact that I didn't run the whole marathon.

On the plus side, though, I managed to actually finish the marathon eventually, which is something. I also took my first steps in weight training and that's quite a big something too. I feel like I haven't done very well over all, but with two big chunky victories like that, I think I earned a level-up anyway. I'm not sure when I'm going to have time to work out my points but... Anyway.

Another late day at the office so I was too late to make it worth getting a boat out but I went and lifted some heavy stuff in the newly revamped gym. Its really spacious in there now and much easier to get around from station to station without tripping over ergs and abandoned plates and what-not. I am a lot more confident in my lifting form. I still catch myself doing it wrong but I notice it more easily and can correct it better. Worked up a sweat and made my muscles cry, then took them home and fed them on chilli wraps, salad, coconut milk and anything else that came within arms reach. Now that the challenge is over I've suddenly got back into challenge mode. Yesterday at work was bloody awful and all I wanted to do was drink a load of wine as a way of pushing the stress out of my mind but I decide to scout up instead, not get the wine, and go for a run instead. I'm glad I did because I know I would have felt blah today too - cloudy and a bit gloomy - if I had the booze. Working from home tomorrow so it should be un morceau de gateau to get to the club in the early evening and get in some boat time. If I don't do that, you must point at me and jeer. "There goes the idiot who could have rowed a boat in the sunshine but didn't!" you must say. That''s accountability, that is!

Alcohol is kind of annoying, isn't it? Fun for a minute and the rest is pain. Good choice on taking a run instead.

Also, good challenge. Sometimes it makes sense to have a low key challenge, especially since your challenges are generally exemplary.

Hurrah! I love accountability. I totally would have wussed out but I feared the consequences so I went and it was beautiful. I rowed down to the class='bbc' src='http://http://www.mapmyrun.com/gb/richmond-eng/pink-house-route-170504770'>

 

I got good and sweaty and I had pretty good technique and I saw many geese and the odd cormorant. I also did some short, fast runs, and ate pretty well so on the whole it has been a good day. Flyer19 has done her challenge update and it's as violent as ever. She's up watching teh commonwealth games opening ceremony and it's past my bedtime, let alone hers!
