Day -2 was family film night and we watched "My Neighbour Totoro" (soooo beautiful!). I maintained perfect pony eating and got outside some pasta ahead of my long run. No exercise apart from stretches and foam rolling (to give my legs a rest) and no Portuguese either (because lazy)

Day -1 started with a run in Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common. Big heavy raindrops were falling thick and fast and I stupidly forgot to take a cap so pretty soon it was hard to see through my specs. Luckily after an hour or so it stopped and before long the sun was shining and my shorts steaming. My legs felt a bit played out but I was in better form than last time and also better prepared having borrowed Mrs 18ck's bottle and bottle-holder and taken an energy gel and some less chafey shorts.

On my last run I found a new pond in one of the more isolated parts of the common so I went back there again today

(it's not a patch on @Primeval's trailfie but it's my trail and I like it well enough)

I also explored some new ground and found a windmill. I'd heard about it but this was the first actual sighting. Conveniently, it had a public toilet.

All in all, I did about 17.5 miles, running the whole way, got totally beshiten as you can see...

And felt pretty good about it.

Back at home, lolly-making time happened

Can't wait for tomorrow now...

So anyway, I'm considering my options for the last 2 weeks. My plan has me doing two more shorty-fasties and a long run at the weekend, leaving 1 fallow week before the big day. In light of my over trained legs, I think I will take some rest days, review on Thursday and probably do a medium-distance, fast run if I'm up to it, possibly some hills on Saturday while Flyer19 is riding, again depending how I feel, but basically go easier on my legs in the run-up. That's a plan, right?

How are things? And thanks. Yes, I've heard the scenery will be quite special, although I'm hoping I won't enjoy it because it will be whizzing by in a blur.

Too many ice crystals, alas. Tasty but it was a but like crunching up granite. I quite fancy the banana Nutella ones next. They sound not-paleo though....

A nice easy day today. I bunked off sculling because I was a quivering mass of jelly. Instead we all cycled up to Richmond and swam in the outdoor pool, and I did some Slacklining while Mrs 18ck ran (she's on a challenge too) and Flyer19 did a parkour obstacle course. Quite a lot of exercise but none of it strenuous. Good fun though. Oh and I cooked too. Chilli wraps with salad and roasted veggies.

Starting my challenge in an adapted form because of my knee thing but I'm treating it as an adaptation rather than as a failure. I'm also pretty busy with offline stuff so I might not be around much.

My quads already hurt from seeing your race course!  I am jealous and hoping that I, too, will one day be awesome enough to sign up for a race with a course like that.  Looking forward to hearing about it.  Have you got some good hills in your area to work with?  Nice job on that 17.5 mile run!  And yeah...don't trust those nasty Americans!

What happened to your knee? (Or did I miss something?)

It's mostly fine but feels a bit bruised if I lean on it. Weirdly I also have a purple toe now on my left foot. The knee and the toe are both on the same leg I had trouble with earlier in the year. I'm obviously running lopsided or something.

Oh, you know the patriarchy. It tells little girls they have to look a certain way and be a certain way and they internalise it and repeat the patriarchy's message to each other and enforce conformity with taunting... Like that.

The correct response to this, as a parent, is quite complex, but it would be a lot simpler if the patriarchy could be physically incarnated in human form so we could all line up, give the patriarchy a kick in the nads and make everything better that way.
