"The way we choose to see the world creates the world we see"

I'm going to be keeping this challenge as simple as I can.  I am up against a writing deadline, a birthday party for my soon to be 3 year old, 2 races and 3 stained glass projects all before this is over.  I must remember that I have created a world for myself of my choosing.  I will no longer let my health suffer because "I am too busy".  With that in mind, I present to you, my challenge, in musical form:

"Take your time. Think a lot.  Why, think of everything you've got" - Cat Stevens - "Father and Son"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q29YR5-t3gg

I'm rushing through my meditation recently.  I will end that and give it the time and attention it deserves.  This will be done more than the 3 days a week I've been averaging.

Meditation per week:

7: A

6: B

5: C

4: D

3 or less: F

"I can lead a nation with a microphone" - Flobots - "Handlebars"

I noticed something last week.  I really don't care about my job.  I was on the phone with a customer and I really wasn't selling them on my company.  I was getting an order.  This bothers me a great deal.  I once had a passion for sales in that I could show people that what I was talking about is important.  That some things are worth the extra money spent.  A job done well is better than a job done quickly.  Midway through the call, I remembered that I have an amazing voice for sales.  Not just the pitch and tone, but I have a way with words that borders on a talent and I am squandering it.  I tapped that part of me again and I felt awake for the first time in over a year.  It resulted in 2 new projects for my company.  If I am to be stuck here, wasting what I know to be my valuable time, then I am going to be great at it.  I will put forth effort to do create more than my minimum amount of sales for each week.  I will lead this small team to glory!

New sales per week over my min:

5 or more: A

4: B

3: C

1 - 2: D

0 - Failure!

"Who's to say, I can't do everything?  Well, I can try" - Jack Johnson - "Upside Down"

I've been slacking on my unicycle practice recently.  My son pointed that out to me yesterday and he's right.  I've been a huge slacker.  I haven't gone more than 10 feet on it.  Well, by the end of the six weeks, I'll have had 3-4 parades that have gone by.  Too many for me not to have been riding it.  Practice, practice, practice.  And!  I will have to get at least one picture per week posted of me riding it or I'm dinging myself one grade.

Practice per week:

4 or more: A

3: B

2: C

1: D

0: Failure!

Less fitness in this as there was in the past, but this is what I need right now.  As a request for all of you, I ask that you post something here every week.  Doesn't have to even be words, but a picture, a gif (Bats) or anything else that has made you smile that week.  I'm not saying you can't follow along if you don't, but it's much more fun when people have some skin in the game.  Don't worry if it derails the thread at all (Bats) or if it doesn't fit into the current topic.  I want to hear from all of you.  You all make me want to be better.

 On Monday, we begin again.

Thanks, Bekah.  It's not always easy to come in every day, but I do it because it supports the family.

And I think you're going to make me blush.  Admittedly, my kids do make this job kind of easy.

Well done Jitters!  Thoughtful goals.  As you mentioned, making goals about what you need instead of just fitness thing is very mindful.   Making goals for work is a wonderful idea.  It will make the daily grind more interesting and less soul slurping.

One unofficial goal for myself for the next challenge is to be more active on the boards.  I adore all the shenanigans people are up to and would like to be more involved.  I will do my best to harass, NAG, encourage you on a regular basis!

This is what you call keeping it as simple as you can? I bow in humility!

Your goal about your job is excellent and really touched a cord. I am struggling myself in that area. Thanks for the reminder that my own attitude has a lot to do with my experience!

I look forward to seeing how you go!

And go, Jitters!  I love this challenge.  You are basically what I want to be when I grow up (though I hope you'll excuse me for substituting parenthood and clowning for writing books and parkour)

I'll try and get on every week, too ... given my track record with coming on the boards recently, I could probably use the extra motivation...

Lovely challenge as usual!

It's great that you want to make the most of work, but if I'm truly honest, I still think it's squandering your talents. You'd make such a wonderful writer, or teacher, or motivational speaker and you could really use your voice to make the world a better place, like you do here on NF, and not waste it on sales.

I am quite interested in how I do with this myself.   :)  I know that it's all in the attitude, but this place seems to just drain you of wanting to care.  It breaks most people after a few years.  We just had one guy retire after 49 years of working here and he was one of the most bitter men towards this place I have ever met.  I do not want to become that.  That book is awesome by the way, if anyone is looking for a good read to kids.  Or you know, because they like kids books...

I have no idea if this worked, but it's supposed to be a gif of a cat flying through a curtain.  It made me laugh so I thought I would share :)

I stared at it for a good few minutes before I read down and found I had to click on it.  And I empathize with that cat.  I've had days like that...

Lolol. It works, but only if you click on the image.

This one always makes me laugh for no good reason.  I'm not a cat guy, but it's still funny.

Don't ever say that again.  You do not need to grow up.    I look forward to seeing you around, Vella.  Especially if you post more pictures of you in a dress. ;)

Wheeee unicycle!

Thank you Mistress.  I am looking forward to the challenge as well.

I agree with you completely.  I am squandering my talents here.  Try as I might, the ideas get stuck in my head, I try to write them down and nothing happens.  I've been trying like hell to get somewhere I don't have the life-like distractions where I can try to write, but, alas, it's not to be.  I had wanted to become a teacher from an early age, but I don't know that I wanted it enough.  I say that because I'm not one.  I would love to teach 5-8th graders.  Motivational speaker seems like something I could do, but I haven't researched how to become one yet.  I want exactly what you said; to use my voice to make the world a better place.  It's why I consider politics as a serious move for me.  For now, I shall be contented knowing that I am helping people here in my own small ways.

Figuratively speaking, of course.  Growing up seems scary and unpleasant.

Hee - I can't promise dresses.  I could count the number of times I've worn a dress this year on one hand. But you never know; something might come up.

Growing up isn't so bad, I guess.  It's the responsibilities that come with it that are sometimes a burden.  I had a conversation with Jess offline a while back about what it means to be a responsible adult and how I sometimes feel like someone is going to come along one day and say, "Okay, play time is over.  Back to being a midlevel human again".  It seems strange to me that I am an adult.

I hold out hope for Vella in dresses. :D

Yup!  From talking to people who actually author as a full-time career, apparently Neil Gaiman is right - it's a little disconcerting to know that a man with a clipboard will never show up at your door and tell you that they've finally found you, and you're to go to a real job and wear a tie.

I wouldn't mind the tie; I rock ties (call it Stockholm syndrome from my private high school, if you will), but I still find it a little scary that the world expects me to feed myself and buy my own clothes and make decisions about where the money I have leftover at the end of the month (hah.  Money left over.  Hahahaha) goes.

And that unicycle?  So much win.  It's the pink that makes it, I think.

Jitters, your combination of visual, verbal and written input is a delicious concoction. Thank you

You reflect and share with so much openness and presence that I feel very inspired.

Just because you are keeping it simple it doesn't mean that your challenge is simple

And - I am really a firm believer in "if there's a will there's a way"
